It is absolutely dumping snow down at the moment and has been all day. Difficult to tell just how much because the high winds are shifting it around. Lots of avalanche control activity this morning and a slow start with the lifts. Links to Val D'Isere closed around lunchtime and runs down to Boisses and Le Brev closed due to avi risk.
Apart from the lack of viz conditions are fantastic. People are finding waist deep powder within yards of the piste. Very sad to be leaving tomorrow. (if conditions allow).

Still chucking it down. Had a great afternoon skiing from boisse to breviere. (sp).
So much fresh stuff up to waist deep in places. Just hope for better visibility tomorrow. And more lifts open. But forecast is for another meter tomorrow. Happy days.

Just had a look at the snow-forecast.com 9-day forecast. They are forecasting a warm front moving in next Wed/Thur with freezing levels moving up to 3200-3300m. I hope they are wrong. It could spoil the Xmas week we are due out there... |
Are you sure? My view on snow forecast shows excellent conditions - hope it stays that way as we arrive on the Eurostar morning train December 24th and plan on a full days ski/boarding before hitting the apartment

cavershamlad, you have chosen wisely. Conditions will be as if Our Lord Himself had decided to come down from Heaven and celebrate His 2011th with a ski holiday. (no not Kenny Dagleish, the other One)
On that subject, 'what would Jesus do'? Planks or a tray? I see Him in the park somehow - more chance of finding some lost souls there (or at least some arr souls).
Apologies for thread drift, excitement is at fault.

Cavershamlad, Sure plenty of lost souls on Santons....Why oh Why
Hope some of this snow left end of January glad it looks like some fab times for everyone getting to go bet some serious sighs of relief from conditions 2 weeks ago!

cavershamlad, no point in getting either excited or worried about something on the far end of a 9 day forecast. But the amount of snow falling at the moment will have no problem surviving a few warm days, if that's what happens.

This suggests (to me) that on 23rd it's going to go above freezing, to 8 degrees, and not drop below freezing until next year apart from very briefly. (Top thick green line.) Happily the weather forecast for the day after tomorrow is pretty unpredictable so I guarantee that the one thing that won't happen is as described!

The operational run (green line) is a warm outlier, but it does look like a general trend to be warming up between 20th and 25th (after that who knows). It also looks pretty dry into the new year after this storm passes.

cavershamlad and James the Last,
I think the snow-forecast site had a bit of a glitch. If you looked at the freezing level graph it was in the 3-thousands but then if you looked at the temperatures for the bottom and top for the same period they were completely different. Happily it seems to have sorted itself out a little later that day. Looking at it now though it does look like we are in for a couple of warm days before it dips back down, but I agree with that amount of snow - nothing to worry about. ...and of course there is always the forecast reliability... Fingers crossed all is going to be perfect - certainly looks that way right now. I don't envy though trying to get out tomorrow though.

I realise this is a bit of wrong places for this question, but... I have a JPEG of the 9-day forecast that I'd like to upload to this forum, but can't figure out how to do it. I am sure it's something totally obvious.... Can anyone help, pls?

OlegT, if that's a snow-forecast 9 day forecast I'd suggest you don't bother - they are changing by the second and even at the best of times (ie with much less instability) the 9 day forecasts are not really worth bothering with. If everybody kept uploading their 9 day forecasts 4 times a day the threads would all be farsands of pages long.

snow-forecast have a great system there, don't they. Where the short range forecast is free, and the long-range forecast which is pretty much 100% staring-at-tea-leaves nonsense requires a paid subscription. Can you buy 'old rope' in their online store as well?

Finally the snow has eased off a bit. Still coming down, but not too heavy. Everything closed first thing this morning, but word is that lifts will start running as soon as it is safe.
