Still cold enough for a lot of snow making - there's a cannon quite a way from us but I can still hear, and see it if I look, going on all night till about 7.30. Must be on the bottom of the Melezes so I wonder how loud it is for those much closer.
Les Gets was great yesterday - sun all day - but cold too and a really good lesson with Tim Scott to try and iron out all those incredibly bad habits. There appear to be snow showers on the forecast, but only snow showers no amounts.

Same over here on Swiss side. Snow canons working and pistes all holding up well. Planachaux is patchy but where there is snow is fine! All the runs are fine and well covered in most places. Chavanette is obviously shut now as exposed rocks and icy bump combination not too good! Runs to Grand Paradis also shut. Everything else is great and as long as it stays cold we will be fine until the snow arrives....

Just spent Thurs through Sun in Morzine. Pistes high up are ok around Avoriaz and Les Gets. Cold keeps what little snow around with the canons helping. Pistes are getting very icy though and could very much do with a good snow fall! Quite a few higher pistes are also thinning out and pebbles/stones are quite a feature, tearing up the base of your skiis! Scariest of all for the beginners is that many blues are and have exposed ice on them.

Returned Saturday from Chatel....4 of us in the party...3 Beginners......all of whom had a fantastic week on the slopes of Super Chatel. Pistes up around Chalet Neuf were in fantastic condition ( long drag, gets a bit chilly in the shade ). Super Chatel was still very quiet even with bus loads of French kids being bussed in from nearby resorts....across lunch time the slopes were virtually empty. Biggest lift queue all week was around 10 people. Red run back down to Chatel - La Combe was perfectly skiable...our 11 year old skied it all the way back down on Wednesday....his fourth day of Ski-ing !, he was a bit peed off about the 3cm of new snow we woke to on Wednesday morning as in his words it made the skiing "really slow". So in summary....plenty of on piste skiing, getting harder by around 3pm, make turns on the piles of loose stuff, ski back down into Chatel at the end of the day.

turbopuss, Exactly my experience, except that I only did a couple of days in that area. I went off alone to Avoriaz to scout for blues on Wednesday and took a group back tere on Thursday to ski some very nice ones I found! The Super- Chatel skiing was eactly as you describe on Friday (pity we didn't meet! I do have a snowHeads sticker on my helmet) and really pleasant in the sun. The queues of bussed-in tots were the biggest hold-up I saw all week. Might have had a delay of as much as 30 seconds. A an ex-teacher this was a new experience to me!
I was very anxious about snow conditions beforehand, but the pisteurs and enneigement did a great job.

Arrived in Morzine yesterday for a week here... after being re-united with my skis (which didn't make it on to flight ) spent most of today around Avoriaz.
Pistes are a lot better than i was expecting - yes there are patches of ice, but there is also some nice stuff around.

Just got back from a week in Morzine. Spent most of my time boarding Avoriaz and Morzine. Had an epic holiday, conditions were a MILLION times better than expected. Sme icy patches, but if you stick to the edges, there's still nice soft snow to be ridden!
Agreed though, it BADLY needs a good dump. But the underlying message is, you'll still have a ball without it.

Still -9.2 here in Les Gets at 8.45 this morning and looks like a lovely day.
Good runs still to be had on Mt Chery even if it looks bare from the bottom.

Just back from 3 days in Morzine and can only echo the sentiment of others on here. The pistes are in fantastic nick. Ok some do have icy patches, especially in the afternoon but conditions really quite good. No off piste fun tho for the more adventorous i would say tho. Would massively recommend Le Creux - black at the top of teh Chammossiere express. Was groomed and covered in decent powder...cracking run. The best run i have skiied in years in fact. And that includes skiing in Chamonix last March. The red the other side of the lift isn't bad as well but not as much fun - a hell of a lot busier as well. All in all a great few days. Those heading out in the coming days have nothing to worry about. Snow cannons on all night as well really helping. Would say the snow is much better french side than swiss.

Back from a quick weekend trip to the PDS and my my isnt there some old twaddle being thrown about on this thread about bad conditions? Saturday I skied Plaine Dranse, Avoriaz, Prodain and around Lindaret and the conditions were fine. Snow making around the PDS is a joy to behold and I can only think of a couple of runs that were a bit bare. Sunday was more of the same. The Marmotte Skicross (off piste area to the left of the La Fornet Chair) was great fun and the snow was lovely - yes, there isnt any powder but its perfectly skiable. Yesterday we got all woo-hah and skied the park and the Stash a few times.... Great fun indeed.
I'll be back out there in March and April and of course, I hope that its snowed by then... but for those travelling in the next week or two, I wouldnt worry.

From what i've read most agree with u mark? Conditions are indeed a v pleasant surprise. As u say the snow making in the PDS is top notch. The pisteurs are doing a sterling job.

ha ha - hopefully we've put those lucky enough to be heading out there shortly at ease!!! Must admit i did head out with a sense of trepidation only for it prove totally unfounded. Was 3rd time back in the resort....actually prefer it to Chamonix - i know there will be some on here that can't understand that!!!! No new snow forecast for a while...yet nothing to worry about. Not sure the Swiss side has as gd snow-making. Would massively recommend the Hotel L'equipe at the bottom of the Pleney lift. €75 a night h/b...swimming pool, sauna, table tennis. Decent food + rooms good as well. Cannot go wrong.

Its a very heavy frost which is making everything look white - still minus 11.2 here at 09.25 with bright sunshine.
Mt Chery looking good in the sun across the valley - its still worth going up there. Even though the view from the bottom looks bare they have been looking after the snow well up top.

Since the new red egg has been installed they have made it a bit safer for the two queues - one for the red egg and one for the Chavannes Express - lots of red fencing which means that the skiers coming down have to go round to the end and not crash through any queues - not that there are many at the moment but I daresay there will be later in February - we have always departed by then.

I've posted this pic in another thread, but for those worried about snow conditions... this was the view of the Marmotte Ski Cross area at Fornet in Avoriaz on Monday lunch time. A joy to ski and holding up well. No powder but certainly good bumps training for me!

Cheapest drinks we found were at the small hut just above the Fornet chair. 2 EURO's for a large coffee.. THAT's cheap.

Just spent the day (well most of it) on the hill and have to say after 'avoiding' it thinking the conditions may be iffy was more than pleasantly surprised.
Plaine Dranse, Pre Le Joux, Linga all with better cover tahn has been seen in seasons with laods of snow. NO ROCKS - very few bare patches and so skis feeling loved!
Avoriaz was a little busy but otherwise again excellent snow coverage.
Warm spell this weekend could lead to some of the leaner coverage being put under pressure but anyone coming out in the next couple of days you are in for some good piste skiing.
Hoping for a change in the weather around the 14th!!

Markoncarp, I know the place you mean. Not a great range but a good spot for coffee or hot dogs if my memory serves
I know the place Tarry mentions also. Our favourite that side is coming down from Planachaux, turn left after the restaurant opposite the snowpark and head for the Ripaille drag. Just before you get ther on the right. Spectacular view, great sun terrace and cosy inside..

it's called les Tupin! Very nice. Don't forget Lizzes at the bottom of Chavanette Chair.... Great music booming ( if you are of a certain age! Abba, Monkeys, Elvis etc) she does a mean sarnie in fresh sliced door step wedges and great Vin Chaud. cheapest sandwiches and drinks on Swiss side I think....But if it's slightly inclement she does not open as it's al fresco eating and Liz is 70 plus and skis with the bread and provisions on her back each day over from Champery!

summer, I sat at Lizzes listening to Abba while I waited for the braver members of the family to do 'the wall' in early January. There were a couple of little French girls also waiting for people - one of them looked up at the run declaring "Ce n'est pas SI dur !"

I will be arriving in Les Gets next sunday (13th) and will potentially have a few hours of skiing if the flights are on time.
Are there any free lifts to use?

I'm going on 25th Feb and am glad to hear things seem to be better than they look. I'm hearing there could be change in the weather around the 13/14th - is there anyone in resort who can cast any light on this? Could be just wishful thinking.....

Libertine, I believe that you can now buy a four hour pass in Les Gets that will work from whenever you start it - i.e. you don't have to wait till 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. etc. so that might serve the purpose for you.

April skiing, artificial snow on the pistes, little between. Pisteurs doing an amazing job keeping it going. Warm temps keeping it very hard for them.
Still ok for the average punter skier who's only requirement is that the snow is white.
Warm temps equal long lunches and lots of rosé..........hic
