In St Anton from Sunday. Assuming Sunday and Monday are whiteouts any recommendations for good off piste eg like Bruson for a Verbier regular? Will have map and Andy Thurner's off piste guide. |
Get a guide for however many days you can. other then Albona mentioned below, a guide will give you access to some spectacular terrain on the back of Rendl (and if you are happy to put a bit of skinning then you can go much further than the first bowl at the back which can get tracked out easily).
Also the back of Valluga is a nice ride, again a guide is required unless you are happy to hike the last 50 vertical meteres (they don't allow people to take skis on the cable car for the last bit unless they are with a guide or ski instructoi - but if you hike for it they are fine...).
Albona is good for tree skiiing, but a taxi is required generally to return to civilization. If avy danger is high stay away from Dorli and Schoengraben or anything below as they can go XXL.
Have fun and hope to see you soon - any plans for the weekend of 12-14 March? I am planning to go skiing and may come your way. I am also going tomorrow for a week in Morzine, if you happen to be around it would be nice to ski a bit together.
Cheers,
C.

Stuben has had continuous fine snow for the last 24 hours...and still snowing now- probably accumulated 8-10cm today. Visibility has been dreadful much of the day...either flat light or thick fog....feeling ones way between each piste marker. Skied Lech this morning, where Pistes were very icy below 2000metres....not particularly nice. This afternoon skied over in stuben where piste conditions much better.

Plenty of soft, creamy snow to be played in today. Not the light fluffy powder of the other day, but very fine all the same. Especially when the sun made an occasional appearance. Back on piste still in good condition, quite a lot of moguls by the end of the day, but that's the result of the number of people skiing the pistes. Intermittent light snow this week has made no impact on the snow cover around town, but has been freshening up the slopes nicely.

Being as we're not flying home until tomorrow we've skied all day today before heading back to Zurich a little later. What a fantastic day, blue sky until about 4, not too cold and quiet pistes. A really good finish to the week, the best day by far.
I took this shot from near the top on the Galzig side

Like Colin B, says it was a smashing day in the Arlberg today. Pistes felt empty compared to last few days as half term crowds departed.
Blue skies and beautiful sunshine, pistes in terrific condition and plenty of soft snow still to be found off piste.
Rendl was looking quite different from earlier in the week. And though there are still rocks to catch out the unwary coverage above 1800m is significantly better after the several days light snowfall. With more coming Sunday and Monday things should start to shape up nicely for those coming out this week.
I did see one smallish slab slide over in Zurs north facing to the side of Madloch lift, by the looks of the tracks leading out it was triggered by skiers. Also plenty of hoar frost above 2200m on Rendl and from the lift some suggestions of surface hoar as well.

Lots of new snow in Lech/Zurs today. Got a bit heavy lower down as it warmed up, but still lots of untracked goodness in Zurs especially. Snowed lightly since lifts close din Lech, so if visibility improves a little tomorrow, could be a very fine day. Not that today was bad - we finished with an off-piste run from the Madloch down to Zug. Knee deep all the way, and due to the slightly treacherous, rocky, slide in, hardly any tracks ...

kitenski, can you post a link to the webcam in st christof please?
We are really struggling to find accommodation for just the 4 nights we are planning to be there and might have to stay in Pettneu or St Jakob.

Anyone planning on being in St Anton from 9th April? Am on the look out for a late deal for that date and St Anton is an option. Would be good to go back and ski there again as have only been once.

Again off topic, I heard a rumour that the new site for Pomodoros would be where Le Fonti currently is.

thinking of heading out to lech for the first week in april and was wondering what conditions i could expect at that time of year, am looking to work on my off piste skiing and would like to make sure the depths would still be good then, also does anyone have any recomendations re instruction other than the lech ski school, which looks at little on the dear side

Unless we get some more snow I'd say the off piste isn't going to be up to much at all by then this season.

Just looking at the webcams and the hill in Nasserein looks very brown/green, is this same all over the region on all pisted areas?
|
|
|
|
|

northantsred, the Nasserein webcam is right at the bottom of the slope. That south facing bank to the right has been bare on and off all season. Wouldn't worry about that too much. Hopefully some more snow on the way later in the week, though it could bring some rain lower down.
