Been lurking on here a while looking at how things are as me and the Mrs are out for 5 weeks Mar 7th.
So, do any of you Serre seasonaires et al tour / hike etc?
I've done a fair amount of "stuff" in the past ten years, usually based in La Grave, but we go all over the place......and have had some of our more memorable days in and around Serre, one tour going over the Dome de Monetier and dropping down the Combe du Riou, couloir starting at 3340 and finishing at 1,800ms ending up in Ailefroide, classic!
Have done the family holidays in Serre for obvious reasons, and this year decided on Serre as we'll have friends / family coming out to stay at various times during the five weeks. I have a couple of friends coming out March 22nd and that week will see us doing various stuff, but apart from that week very much flexible.
I've recently gone back to skis, having snow boarded for many a year, touring started off with a few days hikes from Le Lauzet etc on snow shoes, then on to using more specialised touring equipment for boarding on week long hut to hut trips, we've just about tried every conceivable method between us, and there is no clear winner, though snow shoes in spring can be real hard work. So I swing both ways as it were, though I am trying to persevere with my crud skiing, and at times last year as I hit liquid cement I wish I'd been on my board!
Should go without saying that we use UIAGM guides, and I know a fair number, though a couple of mates (I've done their websites) are back up to the Artic just after we come out (gits), but there are others, though depending on conditions, simple day tours from Lauzet I might well do on my tod.
And if you spot an idiot skinning up the piste early in the morning in the Villeneuve sector that will probably be me!
So if anyone might be interested let me know.................
Take a look at www.peras.se (a mates site) and you might even recognise the opening landscape shot at the top of the home page.

Snowangel aahhh le rage, the joys of living in the mountains, hope it clears up - I'll drop in every now and again here and touch base......did the group drop down the Combe de Riou as I think that can only be done in spring snow, but could be wrong...............or just head back down the glacier?
Have a good trip MS.............
We finally have some wind coming in this weekend so have that to look forward to for Sunday into Monday, so while you're hopefully getting some turns in, we'll be ripping the waves, but think it's going to be cold after a month off the water and with the cold weather we've been having

it is also nice a quiet. fingers crossed for you.
Met boardbiker on thursday, bit of an epic night really!

Looking at the forecast and talking to my guide mate, who is ski touring across to Nice next week from just outside Briancon, looks likes the Southren Alps is in for some serious "weather".............I was asked if I wanted to tag along but couldn't make it, and am I glad looking at the charts!
Batten down the hatches me thinks...............

I can't tell you how excited I am getting with our visit starting 31st only 2 weeks away and the long range forecast (yes healthy pinch of salt etc) showing almost constant snow between now and then - at the moment I think if you add it all up they are forecasting almost a metre between now and then - if we got half of that I would be super happy - as long as the pistes are tip top and theres some fresh pow to be found somewhere off piste I'd be really pleased (as would the rest of the group after last years disaster in morzine!)
keeping my fingers crossed too snowangel - look forward to regular reports over the next couple of weeks!

Helen Beaumont, ha... who knows. I posted a cheeky message on the chaletsdirect board about it being time that people that didn't have their expensive chalets booked out by now should be considering offering us a huge discount for taking on their obviously unrentable hovels.
Jenny from Chalet Berwyn in Briancon bit and offered me a good price. Currently negotiating with my group about whether we want to go back again. I must say that the imminent snow-fest there is making it look more tempting with 6 weeks to go... Just not sure about location of chalet and how easy it is to get about, so checking that with her.
The proximity of Montgenevre and Puy for day trips also makes it a tempting prospect... we'll see... we've not ruled it out yet! Let's face it, the lift pass is pretty reasonable and if you know the area as we do, you can get about without too much drama involving drag lifts.

carled, Chalet Berwyn is about 2-3miles outside of Briancon towards Gap, so not on the ski bus, you would need to dirve to the slopes. However, the owners are great and so is the food.

Aha. You know them then? Jenny seems nice in emails. We're probably going to take her up on her offer of her having a week off and us taking over the catering for ourselves if we go for it. Seems a nice chalet - just concerned, like I say, about location. I know that they offer a transfer to pistes option for fully catered guests, just talking to them about bolting on that package to our self-catering week!
