Should be in Morzine by 13:40 tomorrow too but probably just pop a few beers and get to know everyone - but then I don't fly back till the following Sunday so have the whole of next Sat to ski.
Won't be wasting it checking out St Jean d'Aulps this year though! Ticked it off the list though, so just Abondance left...

How to get there:
Balad'Aulps Bus from Morzine (though watch out for random busses that only run certain days - there's a nice English-run cafe just down from the bus stop if you have a long wait).
Is it worth it:
In my option - not really.
Was quite - but would say Chatel was quieter when I visited a few days before. Depending on snow I might head that way again next week, just a shame the new link isn't going to be open till next month.
If you do go to Chatel DON'T make the mistake we made of skiing from there to La Chapelle d'Abondance - unless have an unhealthy love for drag lifts There's a reason the 'loop' goes the other way around that section we discovered...

How is the PDS holding up? I know that the skiing is mainly on grass fields which is a huge advantage. No rocks to cover before the pistes open etc?

Well no forecast was suggesting snow last night in the PDS and with freezing levels well above the ski area it would have been rain - but ... snow is forecast for tomorrow (Sunday) , which will benefit those arriving next week. The outlook remains positive.

@summer, it's been worse, and recovered. My second season (89-90) we were, at one point in January down to 2 operating chairs and 6 open pistes in the entire PDS but a few weeks later were skiing powder everywhere...

@rjs, I've not skied there as the links are still shut but driven through a couple of times this week, it's quite bare and much of it is closed. Morgins schools have been working in pre la joux. That said Morgins ski club were out in Morgins on Wednesday afternoon when I went over to go to the caisse so must be enough open for them.

No chance in Morgins, they are about closed right now. No way you could drill anywhere to set on the Swiss side of the PdS right now, not a single piste.

R555MAC, They seem to be planning to race either on Foilleuse or on Plan Joyeux and claim that there is plenty of snow. The chief of race is a local.

For those who are local has the snow arrived yet? I get there tomorrow and was planning on bringing loads of snow but if it came tonight instead that would be great.

@rjs, those are the only open bit of Morgins. When I was there on Wed there was a good solid base there at road level. It's north facing. That's where the ski club were training. That said there's been rain since. When's your event? I will go over and have check it out.
@Sunshine81, no snow yet here in Chatel.
@MeMyselfandI, same here.

On The Snow is still predicting 35cm for Les Gets tomorrow. Pretty brave of them, since nobody else is! Other sites are suggesting a light to moderate fall, after a rainy night.
