GFS looking pretty clear for snow on Sunday:
It doesn't look like a massive dump (tee hee), but is that amount of snow likely to have any impact on transfers etc.?
Pretty excited... The next 2 days of work are going to go very slowly!

It is? I'll take your word for it, I have no idea what those graphs mean or how accurate they are. But other easier-to-read sources suggest some snow over the weekend, 11cm in the village on Sunday. E.g. Bergfex
Quote: |

No. 11cm is barely worth getting the ploughs out for. Roads are only usually affected when closed by avy risk, it will take a lot more than that to cause any closures. Of course Bergfex depth predictions are pretty approximate, it could be more, but it won't close any roads. Sorry!

bobmcstuff, interesting. Bergfex use data from ZAMG, presumably ZAMG use the same (or similar) models to the US. I *think* ZAMG get data from ECMWF but I may have just made that up.

ECMWF is the European model and according to nozawaonsen on the weather thread it's generally considered a little more accurate - however I think you need to pay to get the full data from ECM whereas GFS is freely available (hence why so many websites use it).

Folks
Outlook for snow remains the same. Friday light snow. Saturday sunny SundayMonday snow.
If we are very lucky we may get 50cm (max) in total out of the next 3-4days.
Transfers wont be affected.

Malfontal today, epic conditions......if I could post my GoPro footage on here I would just to show how great it is, snow is super soft and mad amounts of untracked pow, cant stop laughing at the moment....people need to stop worrying about the conditions, its just brilliant. Everything is open, the off piste routes are fantastic, pistes are as good as ive ever seen them and we've skied here 50 weeks+, back in Arlberg in March for 2 weeks, if I could I'd be back next week, just brilliant at the moment. Ignore Bergfex and just get out here,it's snowing right now, early start again tomorrow......

Markymark29,
Matter of interest,Whats the runout like in Pettneu?
ulmerhutte,
Just not deep enough, unless it was for sightseeing. Much better in a Glyder

stanton, pretty sketchy run out - the track is very icy but no stones. Corners are bermed so you just run round the outside but the track if snowplough top to bottom and at times you feel it's running away! Great fun though, the top is fantastic and after the traverse the main bowl is in great shape, as is the valley to the hut. Snow in Hinterrendl also 20-25cm soft powder yesterday.
Snowing heavily 07.30 Friday and its all white down in St Jakob, bad viz proper day ahead!

Still snowing, although not as heavily as before, looking like there's around the 30cm mark in resort now, so no doubt more up the mountain.

Snow again overnight. I headed up just after 8:45 so nice and quiet. Was snowing slightly at the time, couple of cms fresh on the pistes and some nice powder just off the sides (about calf deep). Came down from Kapall and took what would normally be black 22 down to the Galzigbahn from Gampen (it's not been pisted or open yet this season) and got some nice soft powder, although some bits still a little thin where the wind has pushed it around. Then headed up the Galzigbahn but was much windier at the top and it had started to snow a lot heavier with visibility having dropped a lot too (from Gampen I could see all the way over to Galzig, by time I got up Galzig some 20minutes later, the Osthangbahn chairs were just about visible. After a few runs I headed back down to town where it was also snowing heavily, but it has now eased, although still snowing a little.

kitenski,
The Warth lift does not run at full power (becuase of the middle Wiebermahd station intergrated pickups) so you have to give your self time when you head back from over there.
If you want to avoid the bus (Alpe Rauz ) scramble in Lech ski down to the old post office (Schlosskopf 2 man chair ) at the far end of Lech ( this is where the bus USED to turn round) then walk up the street to the new turna round point (Oberlechbah). Here you can load and get a seat no problems.

Is that where the free car park is? we usually drive over from Stuben and park there....

Some busses still turn around by the Schlosskopf (or they did when I was there last week). Can definitely echo getting on the bus by the Oberlech cable car, much easier than the scrum at any other of the stops. Also not all the busses stop at all of the stops at peak times, when we went to Warth last week we got on at the aforementioned stop, and the bus drove straight to Rauz with just one stop at Zürs Seekopf (bus was nearly full from the Postamt in Lech anyway).

kitenski, never went round to Lech/ Zurs/ Warth this week. We are round there for a week early March so decided to focus 100% on Rendl/ Galzig/ Stuben based stuff and avoid white ring which whilst nice to do for a day out isn't best use of pow time!
Looking forward to Warth/ Schroeken heard lots of good things from locals whilst away and have lined up some routes, also got details of a local guide we met so all useful stuff.
Plus the walkway in Stuben to the hotel you stay at looks very useful. Plus not as obtrusive as I thought. Was going to go in for lunch but wasn't sure if they'd want half the snow from Albona in there (had just come down north face in deep pow) so we went to Murmele for a great lunch instead.

Great snow, plenty of it too.
But mainly what i've learnt so far is that our group cannot be trusted with unlimited wine at dinner... Painfully hungover.
On the plus side i was too out of it to make any decisions at ski hire this morning, they've put me on some 161cm carvers with rocker (normally ski 180cm whitedots), they seem to turn by the power of thought and require almost no effort, so they're covering for my complete lack of composure quite nicely.
Had to come back for a lie down. Might get another few runs in in a bit.

I find that hard to believe, the Austrians have other uses for their cellars.
Shirley you mean "The Underground on the piste".
