Just waiting for the coach for the return, but if you're heading out then you're in for a treat. Bright blue skies and powdery conditions today.

Had a fabulous, if traumatic day at PdS today. Started off in Champery where they had had 10cm fresh. This meant that all day we had fantastic powder everywhere we went...including Chatel and Avoriaz. It was a little bit harder going down to Linga, but still in good condition. It was certainly brass monkeys going up on lifts so we had to wrap up warm.
As for the trauma....well we were cutting it a bit fine heading back to Champery from Prodains, so when we found the piste to ski down to the Choucas lift link closed (it was only 4pm at this stage), panic set in. We dashed down to the really busy Avoriaz to get over to Mosettes, and they had just closed the piste down to the lift. So we continued down to Lindarets. We could only really then go back up to Avoriaz or down to Ardent, both of which were useless for Switzerland. Although it had been stopped, I noticed the Chatel lift start running again so we quickly polled over, and managed to persuade the liftie to let us on with a bit of begging and looking desperate, as at least Chatel is the same side of PdS as Champery.
After getting across to Chatel via the piste and ski bus, we quickly managed to find a cab, which was a fairly reasonable 65 euros to Champery Grand Paradis. The taxi driver told us it happens all the time, often she is used to taking late skiers back to Avoriaz or Morzine. There was a couple looking for a way to Torgon from Chatel, which as the crow flies is close, but is a really long way by road.
So, panic averted, at one stage how I was going to be spending an unplanned night in Morzine

We went over to La Grande Terche and enjoyed the Roc d'Enfer circuit yesterday - much busier of course as Sunday but fun to take some friends who had just arrived at the end of the week. They remarked that there seems to be much less plodding involved than in the past... at least all the lifts were open and running - lunch at the Tavillon - good grub - but we could have done without all the people that wander in and leave the door wide open!
Minus 4 here and about a new four inches of snow overnight - plough up and down the road a few times. Still snowing.

under a new name, not really, as it said the last Swiss link was at 4.30 and so there was plenty of time to get to the lift
Anyway, lesson learnt

Hi All
I'm out to Montriond on Saturday for our half term holiday - its early here in Norway. Wife & kids have lessons Sunday to Tuesday mornings so I'm looking for someone to ski with. Preferably some off piste fun if the conditions are good (which they are shaping up to be) but on piste is good too.. Are you there next week and looking for a ski buddy?
Cheers
Nevil

In Morzine from Friday - anyone out there? What;s it like?
Online snow reports seem a bit barren - looks good, but no juicy descriptions to be found...

Currently dumping it down in the Geneva area, and forecast to for most of the week. I suspect by the weekend the resorts should be in fantastic shape, given they were already in very good condition last weekend.

Yes dumped down in LG and Morzine all day today - just been able to ski right down the road and up to the door in that wonderful light fluffy stuff. Minus 3 at 3 o'clock - cars creeping about and some not making it up the hill.
The Morzine side was the best to be skiing on this morning in and around the trees.
Now to pack up the chalet and the car till we are back in March.

I had a similar "apron going like a moped" experience last year in the PdS. I can not read piste maps (I have crap eyesight without specs, I never know when looking at a map whether the run is going up or down which makes plotting a route a bit tricky and lastly I usually have more capable map reading friends with me) so I have no idea where I was so I will explain as best as I can. We were heading back from avoriaz at 3.30, then the white out hits us as we get to the top of the mountain being faced with a black back to somewhere near Chatel. We ask the lift man for directions and he says black is closed, we need to ski back to the area where the 3 restaurants are and get the lift up that will take us down to linga where we can get a bus. We skied down to the lift but they had all stopped. After a few minutes of talking loudly in a put on French accent (for some reason my brother thinks this makes him easier to understand) the kind gent turned the lift on. We got to the top, skied blindly down to Linga and got a bus home. We went to the pub and got drunk whilst re-living our adventures....happy days

mheadbee, I'm struggling with this a bit.
Anywhere that you could have been that involved skiing down to the bottom of the Linga lift (Les Combes) would have allowed access to the bottom of the mountain at Pre La Joux. From there you could have caught the same bus to Chatel that you got from Linga.
The only black run I can think of (which is often closed) is Renards which runs from just left of the top of the Chaux des Rosees lift back to Plaine Dranse. If that was closed you have several options to get to Plaine Dranse and onwards to Pre La Joux which would not have involved heading to Linga but there is one of the routes which, given a missed turn (which would have been very easy if visibility was poor), would have ended up at the bottom of the Les Combes lift to Linga. There is also the Cornebois lift there and also a small drag that takes you up to the road leading all the way to Pre La Joux. Can't think of a place with three restaurants though!

Been snowing on and off all night, snow ploughs rumbling past the chalet which bodes well. Quite windy in exposed areas yesterday but fresh snow out of the wind was amazing

Right now main roads are okay. Side roads probably need chains. Although as I look out the window of the Rhodos Bar the snow continues to fall steadily. Been quite a week forsow in the Morzine area. Happy days

Roads are perfectly clear today as it's now quite warm and sunny, but there is masses of snow left on the hill! Was going over my head at times today doing laps under the lifts in Avoriaz.

After days of snow and some wonderful off piste skiing, today dawned largely clear and bright with the temperature at minus eight. Another 30cms had fallen on the mountain over night and the avalanche risk below 2200m was 2. What more could you ask for?
Every run was fresh tracks, every turn a face shot. The best powder I have ever skied was the cry from my co-snorkelists.
And they were right.
I just need some chap stick to sort out my poor sore face!!!

Last day of my 5 week trip to Morzine today. Went up to the Avoriaz area and, as zzz suggests, it was just ridiculously good. Normally hate skiing on my own but today was epic. Anyone arriving for the English half term holidays are in for a treat. Starting the long drive back to Scotland first thing tomorrow. It's been a blast though.

OMFG.
OMFG!
Call me Taylor Swift if you like but I have never, ever, ever skied such light and deep snow (in Europe anyway and possibly ever anywhere).
And to think that I nearly spent the day collating my tax return (after zzz blew me out - although he did later recant) and the day was only saved by a quick call to shep who was gagging to make a plan.
The tenor was set by face shots on the second turn on the pitch between the pistes into Plaine Dranse.
Two epic hits of hidden valley: 70-80 cms of fresh snow so light that speed control became the over riding issue. Pity the poor French snowboarder hurling abuse at everyone else skiing "his" line. You know what they say...
An intesting detour up behind passe montagne for a cute little chute but walking up to get in and out did not sit best with the entire party.
Getting a little heavier around 13h00 thru the "meadows".
And a last run down from Fornet which may have been over egging tha gateau but was still light and fantastic above ~1,600m - anyway it's always good to have breakable crust for the last few turns.
All finished off with M. Dalton's best omelettes and chips and beer at the Crapahutte.
What a day, what a day!

pam w, nah. It was rubbish.
No, it was a classic. Had everything. Powder eights. Tree wells. Pe-releases. Lost skis. More fresh tracks than you could shake a powder skirt at. (More of that later).
It's not often that I feel a powder day couldn't be improved with the addition of a helicopter, but today we didn't need it.
