Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

As above, the Ciste Gully and No1 Gully on the East Wall were amazing this afternoon, didn't do it personally but gather the Aonach Bowl was right up there too. The best of the best turns were below the fenced traverse over to the West Wall lifts, I stopped at the lower leg of the boardwalk, but saw some people carry on right out to well below the old Aonach Poma. You can probably get to about a 5min hoof from the Carpark that way if the Shuttle Bus is on. You can ski to the Ciste Carpark via the Aonach Ridge (cut sharp left part way down OverYonder - but remember it's outwith the patrolled area, so not marked). You can actually ski along a good bit of the boardwalk and the extra wee hoof back to the Poma was worth it today, even if I did curse the Poma each time I passed the Chairlift loading gantry! A word of caution, the wood on the boardwalk is damn slippery esp if damp at all and I wouldn't exactly follow anyone too closely on it as you wouldn't want 2 people on any given span! Shocked

^Sunshine and snow showers at the top of the M1 Poma.

^Some tree riding, 'Gorm style approaching the Ciste Carpark which can be skied to via the Aonach Ridge.

^Wide and deep cover in the Ciste Gully, from the West Wall Boardwalk.

meh, saw a few of the runs, conditions looked excellent and the snow on the top half of the mountain was great. The comp face was largely untracked! Ross Kershaw was taking snaps so I'd expect a few to appear!

Snowing hard on Glen Coe at the end of the day - big fat 50p+ flakes at car park level when I left. Snow was great, mist came in the afternoon and it got a little jedi snow cloud flying at the end.

Drove up to Coe today it looked well clagged in.
Carried on to Aonach Mor good snow particularly higher up but the visibility could have been better up top. Good for Braillie practice.

Glencoe yesterday was so loaded, it's almost astonishing. Rock bands that usually line the area under the Cliffhanger have all but disappeared and glorious lush whiteness everywhere.

Had so much fun @ Nevis Range today and good to finally meet you OAP, hope we can ski some together sometime. Cool Had to rush off for an appointment with Summit Gully though which was a bit of an adventure in the pea soup but had lush snow all the way past the lochans and to the bottom of the Braveheart (Brokenheart). Wingers was nice, Chancer took some coaxing to get me in, Warrens had all but disappeared as a fenced run with just a few sticks poking out to suggest where it might have been. Goose was full on Jedi Force skiing @ 9.15 but cleared up a bit later. There really doesn't have to have great overhead for it to be a great day. Little Angel

No powder farming needed off the Nid, we were the only ones making tracks in the backs ...

The survivors under Summit Gully, 2 miles, some choice navigation and a 300 metre skin out to go before we get back to a ski lift...

My god there is a lot of snow forecast this week for the Cairngorms. Glenshee is already loaded. Will there be enough space for it all. Laughing

Closed today but incredible amounts of snow falling on the hill, knee deep on the Alt Mhor trail down from the car park - doubtless more on the hill and snow settling in Aviemore!

Look like Cairngorm will likely be closed tomorrow and The Lecht the same so the west seems like the best bet, planning a trip to Nevis Range I think ... although Glencoe is tempting ... decisions decisions!

Planning Outlook: All mountain areas of Britain from Wednesday, 20th March, 2013

Persistently cold throughout this week across most mountain areas, with further snowfall, considerable in some areas -
reaching Wales on Thursday afternoon and extending gradually northwards over the following 48 hours. During this
period, upland gales will be extensive and often severe, and particularly across Scotland the air will be exceptionally
cold for late March. There is considerable doubt in terms of whether less cold conditions over perhaps 3 or 4 days
eventually then penetrate north to most or all mountain areas or whether cold conditions persist/return southwards until
Easter - the latter a less likely outcome.

sounds good Laughing

Glencoe today, no one said anything about snow but there was and it kept coming most of the day. I was expecting cloud free and patchy sunshine, got it in the end - on the drive back. The hill was looking this evening amazing but mostly during the day it looked like this:

moffatross, unfortunately not, reasonable cover line is about the waterfall height on the access chair. Did see someone had skied so far and was then walking out the rest of it. Snow is great so back up tomorrow, kind of like skiing whipped cream rather than powder.

Today at Glencoe you could see, maybe not enough to tempt me into the rock garden. Huge powder field on the plateau, huge as in right the way to the access chair huge. There was no one run of the day, hero snow all over the hill. Most repeated combinations where - Spring Run - Bunny Run, Main Basin - Haggis Trap and then either Wall or Canyon.

With the forecast easing of the winds tomorrow we hope that it will be possible to open the access roads. Please check the early morning updates.

Glenshee's latest FAcebook post; does this mean they may open if they can get the roads clear?!

Reckon it's worth getting ready to go just in case?!

Great crack on the Merrick and Buchan Hill from Galloway's Glentrool today. A bit of everything including tree skiing, burn jumping and wide open gullys. Brutal wind on the summit col and easterly aspects were stripped bare but west facing lines were loaded. Big smiles Smile

Ricklovesthepowder, yep, even though the sun will have melted away the thinner stuff on the southerly aspects, there'll be loads of snow around in hollows and drifts on the northern and western aspects and big patches of brown and green too on the eastern slopes. The whole Galloway region caught maybe a foot of snow but most of that ended up as lower level drifts as it got blasted by the storm. Happy hunting. Smile

Hello - apologies for hijacking this link - am after some advice and this thread sounded pretty knowledgable Wink
Heading up to Scotland to ski and hopefully do some touring this weekend, but never been there before. Was thinking of heading to Glenshee - is this as good an area as any for snow this weekend or is Glencoe / Nevis region a better bet?

Many thanks
