There is some soft stuff above Fornet but most of it is tracked. Our plan today is to do the four corners of the map so hopefully we will find some.

Four corners covered! Tignes is no powder skiers dream at the moment, but the pistes are great, and there's plenty of good mogul skiing around if that floats your boat!

rorie, What an epic day! As you say, great pistes everywhere.
Light snow this morning and massive cumulus nimbus clouds over Chamonix so the snow is on its way. See you in March for some powder.

Have now returned home after two weeks staying in Val d'Isere, skiing with Alpine Experience and staying in a YSE chalet. Skied off piste every day bar one, skiing a variety of off piste conditions and even got a little deep powder. Much of the easy to access off piste was heavily tracked and in many places packed like a firm piste.

Just got back from an awesome week in val claret. The slopes are in good condition, although could do with quite a bit more powder, as temps are low the pistes are very icy in places, and it hurts alot when u fall over. A few runs do have small patches of rock and dirt showing through but this is nothing major as the majority of the pistes have a good solid layer underneath.all in all was a great week conditions are ment to be getting better everyday so anyone going out is goin to have a great time.

From Alpine Experince (ie Val d'Isere guiding firm) website. Here's Wayne's Daily Diary from 31.1.11:
Wow, what a morning! It had been socked-in up at the Fornet for the past 36-hours so we knew a few flakes had fallen, but we didn’t expect to find between 30 and 60 cm’s up on the Pissailles Glacier. (Check Jean’s photos if you think I’m exaggerating!) I thought we’d find between 15 and 20cm’s, which would have been nice, but what a wonderful surprise.
It would seem from the full report that this snow was fairly localised - but sounds amazing, nonetheless .

stewart, many resorts wil be offering their right arm for hardpack next week. Temps are set to rocket this weekend.
Call me a heightist but Tignes/VdI remains the most snow sure resort in France.

Well, I have just returned from a week.
Conditions are a little mixed. Fresh snow at the beginning of the week was restricted to the higher parts of the Fornet/Solaise areas where there is still excellent off piste in the north facing bowls, it is now tracked but there is still lovely grippy chalky stuff hidden from the sun.
Plenty of decent piste skiing on the upper slopes but unless you get them fresh from grooming or have a burning desire to blunt your edges rapidly the lower pistes are strictly for returning to base rather than pleasurable skiing.

In Tignes at the moment. Hot hot hot. Despite this most pistes are very well groomed, with only a few being quite icy.
11degrees C this afternoon at Tignes-le-lac.
The ungroomed "nature ride" pistes look a bit rocky but I haven't been down them.

Nearly all the pistes are open, a few with the odd patch, and some getting a bit worn in the afternoons.
No off-piste to speak of.
Sunny & warm, and the pistes quiet.

Honestly there is still some very good skiing available both on & off piste. Just hire a decent guide and they will still find you some good snow.

sabreboy, That has to be my favourite mountainside restaurant.
We lunched their when we did the 'four corners of the piste map' day, Fornet being corner 2. I am not sure I would have made it without the Eidelweiss Tartiflette.

phillip33, was up in solaise area yesterday. Lots of snow on Madeline and the pistes round there. Even saw a snow cannon on despite the apparent warm temperature.
I think you will be fine for snow conditions just pack plenty sun block.

A copy of Rories blog from 11th February.
It’s great here (and that’s snow joke)
It’s time to set the record straight about the snow situation in Tignes. I’ve heard a lot of wingers, both tourists and locals alike, who are not just longing for the next dump of powder but are saying it’s bad in Tignes.
It’s not bad in Tignes, it’s bad in Megeve, it’s bad in the Portes du Soleil, it’s bad in Meribel, in fact, you might even say that Val d’Isere is struggling on some of the runs into the resort, but there’s no way you can say it’s bad in Tignes when we must have the best snow in the French Alps at the moment. Before you utter another word about how bad the snow is, try skiing Trolles at 9:15 in the morning and then get back to me. If you can’t ski Trolles yet then I doubt that you really need a foot of fresh powder to cheer you up anyway!
So if you are lucky enough to be in Tignes right now, here’s a five step action plan on how to make the most of the best snow conditions in France at the moment:
1) Get up early, that’s when the runs are in the best condition.
2) Head up high. The snow on the glacier is fantastic right now.
3) If you need to distract yourself from your thirst for powder, why not try learning some new tricks in the snowpark? *
4) The moguls are in great shape at the moment, this could be the week you harness them! *
5) The classic off piste routes are well skied, and the avalanche risk is low. It’s a perfect time to head off piste. *
* If you haven’t tried this before, maybe I can recommend an instructor?
If you’re still not happy, my ski school is running snowshoe excursions 7 days a week, 30€ per session! So stop moaning and get out there!
