Been in Schlaming this week and pistes are in perfect condition. The run under the 2 man chair on the Reiteralm is even OK. I hate that run. i'd rather ski off the face of the Dachstein but it was alright yesterday. The new gondola on the reiteralm is a great addition as is the 8 man chair by the Mitterhausalm on the Planai. Result extra ski miles which is always good. Weather set to warm up on Saturday. Glad we came this week!

admin, Thank you for giving us the official line on the above matter!
I have found huge amounts of good advice on this forum, after coming back to skiing 5 years ago after a 16 year break. However i have to admit
that i'm often exasperated by the number of posters who seem to get the hump over every last little thing.
I'm reading this thread in order to get the inside info on the snow in westendorf, we're off on 12th feb, so keep the posts coming please.

Samerberg Sue, I have grown up thanks. Thats why i don't write stroppy posts about people on this forum who are simply trying to help.
You've had the official line on the above matter, so please accept that you were out of order with good grace.

Was just about to open a topic so that everyone could rip on me!!
I was planning on making a donation, like I said earlier I'm not exactly raking it in and have rent and food to pay for before this. I only joined up a week ago or something to see what it was all about! admin - Thanks for backing me up, I'm not just on here to "pimp" myself (I'm actually a self confessed ski geek) and I will link SH on my site when it's updated soon. If I'm not banished that is!
I've got a link to (my own) website, not my employers. It's a way for people to get in touch, if they want, without advertising my phone number!!

Heidi came on here after her employers/partners Blacksheep were warned about the same thing.

I'm not psychic, I'm not on here because blacksheep have told me to, I'm here for myself - to be helpful, make friends and maybe make some contacts for future work. I'm not a partner. Please don't accuse me of stuff I haven't done.
Mountains out of molehills springs to mind....

Has she somehow put your nose out of joint? How long does she have to live there before she is allowed to tell us what the snow is like?

Must have done, eh?
Haha never mind, if anyone still wants to know what the snow is like in SkiWelt, it's ok - icy patches and between 2-5 degrees today, some pistes in great nic, others showing some wear and tear. Night slalom tonight I think, might catch it on webcam!
P.S. getting points for arguing. How very mature.

duncansarmy & Rebelski, unfortunately it's true. The temps next week look more like May than Feb. Keeping a keen eye on the Weather Outlook thread though, Siberia is forecast to move west following the warm snap! Just in time for my flight with my new skis!!

Well the PNW seems to be suffering the same winter fate as Austria these days. Either cold and dry, or wet and warm. Waiting for the wet and cold to arrive. Not too worried as our trip is in 3 weeks time. Will be surely miffed if I leave Seattle and it dumps here, and get skunked in Austria!

Thanks for the update Heidiky. They will be appreciated by 99.9% of people. Only one week and a day away from my trip and the weather looks awful. Fingers crossed it doesn't do too much damage!! Otherwise i'll be drunkily hammering nails in the Salvenstadl!!

Pistes in good condition in Dorfgastein. Some icy patches from time to time but very rare and nothing really to affect good skiing. We stayed on upper part of the mountain though. Good lifts, nice huts, wide quick runs. Perfect.
It was mixed with clouds and sun all day and it did not feel as warm as it was in the last few days. Should be sunnier tomorrow so we head to Sportgastein. Finally.
Herr Hefski, agree with new gondola in Reiteralm. Nice, long run.

geoffkay, Meant to say, skiied in Westendorf today and the snow was really good! Run down into Brixen was an ice fest but everywhere else up there is good. They always have better snow that side!
Ian_S, I'll see you in the Salven for some nail hammering! (regardless of weather!?!?) Optimum levels of accuracy is 1.5 beers hehe

I skied the Kitzbühel/Kirchberg area today. Pistes mostly very hard, smooth in a few places. Eminently skiable. I found it still chilly, though it was clouding over as the day came to an end. Pretty quiet. Here's a view over Kitzbühel taken from the Kampen (having chickened out of skiing the Streif). I hadn't known the Kampen piste and found it very pleasant; comes out at the Ganslern lift, by the slalom run.

espri, still looking lovely there. So nice to see snow at resort level. I hope it's still there when I go.
I've yet to try the Kampen piste, there was no snow on it when I was in Kitz before.

I really enjoyed it today - quite a discovery. I also enjoyed the runs down by the new Maierl and Ochsalm lifts in Kirchberg.

espri, oooh yes, I'm excited about the new lifts, I remember the rickety old Maierl chair lifts.

Zelll: no new snow so same bottleneck skiddy bits. Sonnenalm absolutely lovely; quiet and nice snow on the whole. Last day tomorrow - managed not to meet up with any snowheads but hopefully everyone had a good time

Just to put you in the mood, queen bodecia (maybe we could meet), here's a panorama from the Maierl, with the new 10-seater gondola (very comfortable).

Would this icy hell be the only link on skis into the ski welt area? cos if it is i'll have to make sure my wife (she's the kay bit of my username) does not read this thread!
She's not a fan of busy icy runs, and neither am i come to think of it. I've now got everything crossed for snow weekend of 12/2, but not quite enough to c@ck up the transport infrastructure!

Tom W, I agree with your thoughts on dorfgastein! some really nice skiing grossarl(?) side too. No ice when we went except for bit of steep drop into village right at bottom of the piste. Please post your thoughts on sportgastein after you've been, cos it was always closed when we were there and i'm curious.

duncansarmy,
Yes i've looked at that site for a couple of weeks now and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster to be honest. Everythings crossed and you never know,
colder weather and a fall of snow could pop up early in the week we are over there. Got to be optimistic!

Spent a day in Flachauwinkl yesterday... first day boarding of the season....
The pistes are still in A1 shape but there is the odd icy patch and on the south face things are a lot thinner!
It was very cold yesterday afternoon - the clouds came in and stayed over night. things are clearer today but temps have stayed below 0 and are much colder than expected... lets hope that holds up!
Those that are interested in parks... the Absolute park at FW is in tip-top shape although not fully open (but only a tincy wincy bit). The first 2 huge kickers are open. The Stash park is rather worn now. Most of it is skied out although the snow is still nice and soft and deep to fall in!... The wall rides are a bit bare and you need to take a very, very deep breath to attempt any of the rails or rainbows. Still loads of jibbing available though and the little park before the Chillhouse is also in great shape. The half-pipe was closed as they were re-shaping it (which is great to watch!) but is probably open today.
Glad things ar eback on topic. Please keep this thread to snow/what-snow reports only!

Hi me too, off to Ellmau tomorrow Never been to Austria so looking fwd to the experience.
As for the 'bad' forecast above: surely not a big problem if it's mild and sunny for a day or two's spring skiing in Feb? So long as snow does arrive when the temperature drops again!

geoffkay, Ahh it's not too bad really, just a few icy patches, if you stick to the sides of the run the snow is grippier (that even a word?!) If your wife is hesitant about it, getting the gondola down is actually easier as it takes you to across the road from the Brixen gondola. When you ski you have to go on a magic carpet then a rope tow then walk a bit! There's plenty of time for it snow before you're here, I'll do an extra snowdance for you just to be sure!
balernoStu, Ellmau is looking good, the pistes are in good shape it's just the off piste areas that are a bit thin!

geoffkay, Sportgastein. What a place. Perfect snow on the pistes. Beautiful weather. About 4 times 3.5km runs to the middle station. All wide and quick. High mountain views.
And to finish the day top quality Swedish rock band in Silver Bullet.
I did not go off piste but it all seems very hard, tracked and rather thin up there. A bit strange as on the bottom of the valley, around parking etc there is about a meter of powdery snow.
