What runs are likely to be open in December ? I was hoping the Rosolin would be open to take my Daughter down, but found it closed when I visited in April, is it just a pre-season piste ?, thanks.

pippivixen, last year in December it was dumping it down and everything that could be open (subject to avalanche risk) was IIRC (but I wasn't up as high as the glacier to know abut Rosolin). In fact last weekend it wasn't open, don't know why expect maybe crevasses? Is there something special about this run?

holidayloverxx, yes, it is nice and wide and blue !!!!, not only perfect me for to get my confidence on before I try anything else, but I thought it would be ideal for my Daughter who has never skied on snow before. If the lower runs are open, I skied on a lot of those in April, so will know which ones to take her on.

Well tignes.net says:
29th November 2008 espace killy ski area opening
So that means a fair few pistes should be open including the links to Val D'Isere, the exact runs etc will depend on conditions.

Hello everyone, long time no post! I'm definitely still coming, but I have no idea about my sister - I suspect not, really, so my room, which I booked as single occupancy because sis was faffing, will have a spare bed. Females only!

byrlord, welcome to snowheads. If you ask the same question on the October group thread you might catch someone who was there this weekend. On the opening weekend (2 weeks ago) the funicular and 2 drags were open serving most of the runs on the glacier - 1 was closed due to crevasses and rosolin was also closed but I don't know why. The snow was great, and held up well in spite of glorious sunshine.
enjoy

VolklAttivaS5, Holidaylover came out on the first day of the ski and board camp, as we didn't have a drop off to do we were able to collect earlier (but not until 18:30 in any case due to flight demand).

Just to add - there seems to be a bit of disappointment about transfers from a couple of people today. By way of explanation - in order for you to get a full 3rd day skiing we can't have the transfer leaving resort until 16:00 (ish). This means we don't get to Geneva until 19:00 (ish) so we can't do a collection before then.
There are very, very few occasions during the ski and board camp where there's a whole bus full of people wanting to leave resort any earlier than 15:30 because they want to make the most of snow time. We have tried to make this as clear as possilbe on the website, we have been willing to be flexible on return times - but nobody wanted to return earlier! (and who can blame them??).
Hope that clears things up - transfers will always be around 19:30 except on the odd occasion (sometimes they are later if people have requested to come in on 21:00 flights).
Have fun all that are heading out!

VolklAttivaS5, wot Joanne Mountainsun said, and it works well - I killed a couple of hours in the swiss restuarant having a snack & reading, then meandered to the Hub bar (meeting point) and soon found others hanging around.

Joanne Mountainsun, ok that's fair enough. I personally wasn't disappointed with the transfer, I mean it's all included in the price and everything so who can grumble, it was just that I hadn't really twigged that it would be pretty late by time we get to Tignes. Makes sense though if the transfer out for us is the bus coming back in to drop people off after skiing all day on their last day, I hadn't realised that so that's fine. Thanks for explaining anyway, it's not a problem.
holidayloverxx, yeah, I will take my time fetching my luggage and I'm sure I'll meet up with the others and the few hours wait will whizz by especially with a few drinks flowing!
I'm really looking forward to going and trying out my new boots I had fitted today! Last ones got nicked but luckily they needed replacing anyway so all is well.
Must say the weeks have whizzed by lately, can't believe it is next Tues the October people are going. It will soon be December group time too!

I spoke to the edge to edge chap at the ski show yesterday (ski supplier, and forgotten his name ). I mentioned that there are still comments about the limited range of skis and he is trying to get some Elan and Salomon skis out for the ladies. The problem is that they are delivered to crawley then he has to take them out to tignes. He is trying to arrange to have them sent direct. no timescales though.

There weren't that many skis for men either, particularly as the "all mountain" jobs are a bit of a waste of time at this time of year. Lengths were limited - one chap, with only a few weeks experienced, and quite light, was given skis at 170 because there was nothing shorter. Subsequently he was able to swap them with someone who wanted something a bit longer, and was better off. My OH wanted to try some Metrons but they had to find a pair from the Hotel's stock to get the length he needed, which was 165 or whatever. The only pair available from Edge to Edge was too short. We were both thinking of trying Elan Magfires, but there weren't any (though they were on the list). As we were able to try out different skis, for free, which is great, it seems a bit churlish to grumble, and I was quite happy with the ones I had, but it's as well for folk to know that there is not a lot of choice, and if someone already has the ones you want, maybe no choice. Nobody was left with nothing, but some people were on skis which were either not very suitable for their personal needs, or for the conditions. It would be very helpful if they could post a list of what they've actually got out there at the moment.
I would recommend anybody who comes into the "fussy about what they ski on" category to take their own!
On a more positive note, we all found the hotel comfortable and welcoming and we were soooooooooooooooooo lucky with the snow conditions (good winter snow), and weather - loads of sun. And the lessons with Evolution 2's Kev were a great success. We were very impressed with being able to hang on to our room until after skiing on the 3rd day, to be able to shower and pack before heading off after a superb tea. The package seems to be very well organised (though we were self driving so didn't use the transfers to Geneva).

The only things that mildly interests me in the context of what I expect to be able to ski would be the Crusades and a grippy piste charger...maybe an Atomic, but having a short list of about 3 is leaving things a bit to chance.
I'll take my own for the sake of a EJ carrying charge.

Wooo Hooo I am booked
I am in the Hotel Marais which is just along the road from mountainsun's place. 10th to 14th Dec, all I need is to book the GVA>TIGNES transfer.
Any hints on the best bus co? I have never been to Tignes before and I think I will need to get the navette from Tignes le Lac to the hotel, which I hope is running that time of year.
