stanton, I'm too old for Apres and can't be bothered any more to fight for my fresh powder with a resort full of ski bums.

Fantastic day today, north face Albona fantastic, great powder 15-20cm deep. Very stable snow, entry a bit sketchy, zero visibility all way down, super cold up there also. Don't believe all the shoite on here, we skied all day (ok in low viz, its been snowing all day) some epic turns and slopes are empty....but are getting some serious off piste done. First lift tomorrow with pals, sun's out!

I feel that way regardless of the weather. I'd rather be skiing in the rain that sat in an office.
Sadly it looks like Bergfex is already backing off it's predictions for next week, not just in the Arlberg but also over in Chamonix... yesterday they were talking about 50cm+ falling early next week, they are now talking about "0 - 5cm". Maybe they'll change their mind again before then.
15 - 20cm is nice if it's on a good base and there are no rocks; had that last week in Sudtirol, great fun skiing groomers with 20cm of fluff on top.

Yeah, sneaky trick at least for those in Austria, take bergfex's prediction (say 50 cm), add to that Wetter.at's prediction (say 2cm), then observe a local cow (or if no cow is available an old farmer is a good substitute), if it's standing divide by 3, if it's sitting divide by 2!
Boom exact snow forecast!
30% of the time it works every time!

Looks promising for colder weather and at least a bit of snow into next week (when I am in St Anton ), based on the ensembles in the weather thread. Presumably should be enough to make the place look nice and keep the pistes in decent shape at the least.
Following on from that, if there is snow and poor vis during the week, what are the best options for tree lined pistes likely to be? We're staying near the Nasserein gondola, apparently. Thanks!

It's not the best resort for tree skiing. The area above Nasserein is OK (if weather is really bad then the Fang lift is sometime the only one open anyway, but that is very rare). Otherwise lower slopes on Rendl are you best bet, or a trip to Lech. For off piste the runs below Galzig are a good bet in poor weather (but check avy conditions), and the ski route from there will be worth a look too, although it will be chopped up in fresh snow.

On second thoughts it looks like I'm talking cr@p, Bergfex has gone back to being very optimistic again (I didn't realise they updated more than once a day? Or maybe I'm an idiot)

Have to be careful where you go above Nasserein. A lot of the tree araa is out of bounds & they do fine ( can be upto €2500) violaters.
Off Galzig on Jungbrunntobel you can get into the trees however really needs more snow.
Best tree skiiing can be found over in Sonnenkopf down the North face but likewise not enough snow right now & you have to watch out for the closed out of bounds areas.

Yep, I was talking about on-piste... stanton doesn't believe that people come to St Anton to do that

Dublinfella, Not a huge ammount in Lech at the moment, but enough to slide around on. ORF says 75cm/75cm. Orf also says that Friday is going to bring lotsa snow to the whole country ( but most to the south again ) http://orf.at/stories/2215113/

Steilhang,
Just after some advice please - we are booked to arrive in St Anton for 1 week on 13 April (have been to St Anton plus Lech a few times but never this late).
Have only paid a deposit of £500 so far with the remaining balance of £4K (Ski Esprit holiday so all in inc childcare) due in 2 weeks.
I'm starting to get a bit nervous given the lack of any decent base / depth at the moment - we may have the option to switch holiday to somewhere like Tignes etc (but both my wife and I absolutely love St Anton / Austria).
Shall we stick to it and hope for the best – have you skied the area so late in the season?
Thanks

franga, I've been in St Anton/the Arlberg for the past 5 Winters nude have had no trouble boarding/skiing late season. Ok it gets a little soft and slushy later on in the day, but you'd expect that anywhere. If the snow is that bad by the end of the season that they shut the resort early (or Hotelplan decide to close chalets early, which a number of TO's often do) then they should either offer you an alternative.

Never a problem skiing Top to Town.
The only thing is do not expect all Mountain bars to be open. Nowadays a lot start closing down at the end of March first week April.

franga, Like the others have said usually not a problem. Most years you will get a lot of snow between Jan and April, usually a lot of snow comes down in April as well. Can be anything from knee deep powder to the same depth of slush ( which I love ). I don't think Tignes is any more sure than St. Anton tbh. Quite often I've skied into the first week of May in St. Anton. If there's no snow there then usually there's no snow anywhere.
