Just booked up with Rocket Ski. Looks fairly basic, but a good price, so we're all quite happy. Anyway, what are the conditions looking like at the mo - forecast indicated quite a bit of snow. Photo's anyone?

A decent bit of snow on 23rd (15cm) and some more forecast for the following week according to skiclub.co.uk - http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/snowreports/snowreport.aspx/Serre-Chevalier -
The most reliable source for Serre Che is snowangel of course..but things are looking good. Time to wax me board I think.
Monotokpoint We were at Le Grande Aigle over New Year and going back 6th march. although it is basic, it has a sportsbar with Skysports, a quieter bar with log fire, descent food, nice staff and it is clean.
Coupled with the fact that you ski from and to the door, you can't go wrong. Also my son works behind the bar there and he loves it
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Son has just phoned. He was grinding his way up the hill to the hotel. Heaviest snow he has seen since being out there. He hasn't been able to ski for 3 days

Just been speaking to a mate who's a guide in La Grave and conditions are very dangerous - he was touring along a very ordinary ridge above Chazelet a small station opposite La Grave nothing too major, and he called off the descent what with the wind and then warming temps just not worth it was what he said.........and they skinned back where they had come from!
So be careful...........
This time next week will be stopping off at my bros in Chautreusse then Fri am arriving in Serre for 5 weeks - yehaaa!!
This is a video of me testing my ABS pack - how nervous!!

Hiya All,
I am coming to SC on Saturday and the FX rate is bad at the moment.
Does anyone know the rate I would get in resort by change GBP to EURO Cash?

Snowing heavily

Dontlikeheights, there are not a lot of places to change sterling to euros. It isn't always possible in the banks, I think the post office might do it though, but I couldn't say what the rates would be. It's easier to take it with you, or use the cash machines with a debit card .
snowangel.,
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Cheer Helen for the Info.
Snow Angel, glad to here that it is snowing heavy.
I am very much looking forward to coming to play in Serre Che at the weekend.
You know it makes sense.

Snowing again most of today in the valley. Col du Lauteret now closed. We made it back from Grenoble at midday in truly awful conditions....blizzard like (probably mainly surface snow being whipped up by strong winds, though it was snowing at the time too), some cars and trucks findiing it difficult. The snow ploughs finding it hard to do their work.
Had to drive round via Gap on Sat also. The snow must be 3 metres high in places beside the road to the Lauteret. Haven't seen it that bad before.
Mon and Tue were fantastic for skiing. The Eychauda drag lift to the un-pisted black runs Ailefroide and Isolee was open, as were the runs themselves. The Isolee is lovely...pity it is open so rarely, or maybe we just keep missing it.
The pistes are in great conditions mostly. Off piste it was a bit cruddy down low but still nice and soft higher up.
Two more days to go....
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

I'd like to see pics too - not keen on snow on saturdaygiven flying in to Grenoble and col de lauteret in snow doesn't sound fun.More snow due according to snow forecast.
dan100, Now we don't have chris about we don't seem to get as many pics of the snow conditions. I think snowangel. must be busy working. Last week of French holidays.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Helen Beaumont, I was wondering the other day where chris had "gone". Are he and Lin still in SC?

Chasseur, no, they moved back to the UK last April . I think Lin now has a grandchild, and they are in Herefordshire, but I can't be more precise.
MorganW, enjoy.

Helen Beaumont, thanks Lovely couple - I had a great week by myself in SC quite a few years ago and skied extensively with them (and apres'd a bit too IIRC). Also have a couple of paintings that chris did of Chantemerle, one with my daughter in, which is fab.
Hopefully they'll resurface at some point.

Helen Beaumont, ok really sorry for lack of pics, i just dont get the time to do nothing at the mo. every year it seems to get harder and harder to do stuff other than life stuff. Its just not the same when you live somewhere!
however holidays are over and i will promis to try and take some shots of the mountain and snow soon.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Got back Saturday. Stayed in Villeneuve and had another brilliant week. Glad I didn't have to board on Saturday though...It was getting windswept and icy in a fair few places on friday. All other days were either still and sunny or snowing though I love the resort and absolutely love the runs and views in Briancon. As the mayor of California says....."I'll be back"
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

snowangel., no problem, you have to work to live. There were plenty of others out there who could have posted pics from their holidays.

Arrived here Friday and been making the most of the conditions. Montagnolle has been in great condition and yesterday laid some great tracks down there. Been up at Montgenevre today, very very cold, but so much fresh snow (untracked) around.....
Weathercam, loved the blog, I'm pleased you're not cooking ski boots in my apartment oven !! Glad to see the dog is blogging again too.

Christopher, if you haven't sorted one out by then, try and meet me at Pré Chabert after your lesson , and we will organise the day in Montgenevre, or pass on a message through Gavin.

Helen Beaumont, grand idea. recieve my a level retakes tomorow, which makes it even more of a pain. its 5euros for 30mins in the tourist office
As Chasseur, asks, hows the weather looking? I've been checking the forecast and there doesn't seem to be much snow on the horizon. Are the conditions holding out?
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Chasseur, it's been very cold, so I don't think there's much risk of the snow melting yet. .
High pressure coming in from Tuesday so things are looking good, though will all be about timing sun vs slope aspect for ascent & same again for descent!!
Regards

OT: I am arriving on the 20th (wohoo!) for a week and fancy trying a bit of telemarking. Could anyone recommend a decent tutor for a day or two?
