snowangel., Is it possible to ski from Monetier to Briancon and back in a day?
I know there is a perfectly adequate bus service if you dont manage it. But I was wondering if the feat is easy enough to achieve.
Serre Che for next season me thinks!

Its very easy though there can occasionally be bottle necks in the Frejus sector of Villeneuve where the lifts need upgrading and if the snow is poor the connections between Briancon and Chantemerle rely on low capacity drags which can get overloaded at busy times.
Edit:
Didn't notice the previous post about possible new lift at Briancon and query about snow in Briancon.
Briancon is a bit less reliable for snow than the rest of the area it is in the lowest end of the valley and partly faces south. Skiing between the top of the Prorel gondola to the half way stage on the East facing side is generally reliable all season and often good due to quality grooming and low traffic. They have snow making here. The last bit to Briancon is usually open but often less pleasant. The bit below the Col du Prorel faces south it is fairly high and the snow is usually good early in the year but gets spring like early in the spring the green run around the side which avoids the tow back to the Prorel gondola often closes early.

well that was awesome fun! just got home, rode hard and fast and got freshies everywhere. some of the off piste is crap as its really mogulie and very hard work, other lesser know bits were great!
I nearly took a tree out and have a sore bottom as a result but luckily missed the tree by a foot!
pists were ok, luc was horrid on the way down. You can feel the icy/slush underneeth but i reckon after tomorrow they'll be lovely again!
still snowing up there now, sleeting down here
roll on tomorrow!

shoogly, was just for school holidays finished on sunday, but have that job for next season too and possibly for more hours. But i need to work and i want to keep speaking french so cafe sol is ideal
snow today was/is awesome has been snowing all day and even the valley is whitish still, an unexpected surprise!
Vis was still bad, the cuc was so scary due to bad vis but the pow was knee high off piste so well worth doing. We started in monetier as i had to see the foot doctor and there is an end in sight to my foot pain which is graet!
cibuit was the first rund down, under the fence and still at 10.30 there were freshies to be had, and they continued all the way down tabuc. The moguls were their usual horrid self but the trees to the left were great!
the pistes were amazing, getting a bit cruddy and slushy at the bottom but otherwise i could not fault it today. I coulen't believe my luck when i got to the disused chair in chantemerle to find it and the trees beneath it untracked, i g ot so excited i nearly pee'd myself!
great day riding. Roll on tomorrow! I start work on monday so am profiting from a week off
got a couple of pics today, will post one later!

didn't get up early b eing wednesday and i have my daughter off school so we had an easy day on piste with her. she did very well. I did get two runs of offpiste while she stayed with my sister in law. very very heavy it was, great fun but exhusting.
still snowing up there, well kind of, sometimes its more like freezing rain!
getting a bit slushy on the way down, it reminded me of how it ws the day i got married 2 years ago 1st april.

well it did snow up top and is trying to snow down here (well they're not falling as rain drops so i suppose it is snowing!)
Snow was a bit strange, but we did find lots of fresh to play in. Bos a joule was lovely and fab tracks we got down one face. Only had an hour and a half to ride but it was great fun.
was snowing properly up top when i came down, hope that carries on.
Start at cafe sol tomorrow

snowangel., SO jealous! like dan100, really enjoyed Serre Chevalier last week. Liked the layout of the skiing a lot and the fact that we didn't step into a bubble or cable car all week and only a couple of drag lifts - otherwise it was chair lifts all the way. Skied from Chantemerle to Monetier and back on the day with the worst visibility (I think) - got the heebie jeebies on a very easy blue track around to the bottom of the Cucumelle lift (again, I think!) cos I couldn't see anything except a drop off to the side (which didn't look half as scary once we got into the chair and the visibility had cleared a little). Also had fun that day getting on a chair lift up at the top above Monetier into the clouds - my OH and I misjudged the lift and nearly fell off getting on it, in the attempt to avoid which I succeeded in dropping a pole . Skiing back down through the clouds with one pole was not something I was looking forward to but actually resulted in what was probably my best skiing of the week - single pole held out horizontally in front of me in both hands and a big grin on my face resulted in lovely smooth turns! I also discovered a quite nifty one-pole poling technique which was also quite entertaining but surprisingly effective!
Had some good lessons with Darren Turner (Insight) and some nice meals in Chantemerle at Le Loup Blanc and Le Triptyque. Up the mountain we were quite unadventurous (partly because of having to meet up with others after skiing lessons etc) and once we had discovered the Chalet Hotel at Serre Ratier tended to stick to that. Thoroughly recommend it, really friendly staff, lovely cosy interior and nice sunny terrace - we tried both - and delicious food. Cafe Soleil also v nice although we only managed drinks there once we'd found the Chalet Hotel...
snowangel., thanks very much for the directions which were great and the restaurant recommendations. Sorry we missed you in between jobs!

NatalieG, were you meeting Darren on weds afternoon? i was the snowboarder with the little girl snowboarder (thats assuming it was you!)
Glad you had a good time. I also hate the cattrack to monetier, which is why we often start there or i drop off the side if its worth doing/
