DJL, Yep 10cm overnight - at the lowest end of expectations. The way it came down yesterday evening, it looked for a while that we might get a big one - but alas it was not to be. Possible flurries later and then it will be from Wednesday onwards when the next snowfalls are due to arrive.
Lots of avalanche blasting this morning - French TV has been giving a lot of coverage to the avalanche fatalities in the French Alps this weekend. Avalanche risk is high again today - 4/5.

On my way back from Geneva at the moment. Roads were all ploughed and fine.
Snow level looks quite a bit lower in the Jura than the Alps

Far less snow in Chamonix or Morzine this morning that I expected from snowfall when we closed curtains last night - but a very pleasant day around Lindarets, pistes appeared in good condition and we enjoyedbrather a lot of skied up heavy powder piste side.
Generally mighty fine.

Light snow showers in Chatel this eve and there could be a brief heavier burst in next hour as another thin line of showers moves through.

Quite a nice ski around Super Chatel today once I got back from Geneva. Freshened up overnight but the odd scraped and rocky bit.
Chermeau lift broken (to accesss Super Chatel having started from Barbossine) so big queues and strained tempers to get to Chalet Neuf. Apparently it will be out all week which will be a real pain.

DJL, Didn't get to that bit today - so thanks for the heads up. The other parts of Super Chatel were quite nice today and not particularly busy.

Morzinw seemed fine today. We're at the top of the Nyon Lift and had about 30-40cm of snow here. Some brown patches over towards Led Gets in places but good overall. Snowing now as I type,

Can confirm that the snow level in the Jura is quite a bit lower than here having driven that route yesterday. Drove in last night over the Morgins pass which was fine despite the fairly constant snow, a few muppets out deciding to stop dead in the middle of the road to chain up We timed it very badly as it took us an hour to drive less than 10 mins through the resort. There were idiots stopped all over the place blocking the road, then there were cars just abandoned and others with their chains instructions out. Never seen such a bad transfer day.
Good conditions on piste in Pre la joux today, loads of blasting going on this morning. Crazy traffic and no parking if you hadnt made an early start.

Yah, the jura has a snow level down to around 1000 metres today, was skiing it in a blizzard in la Dôle today. Lovely snowpack and empty pistes / untracked powder all over the place.. . Back again tomorrow.

MeMyselfandI, could not agree more about pedestrians in the middle of the road... but the pavements are often so lethal that it is not surprising. Giving way when you are on the flat is so obvious and there are great signs but there are almost too many signs and people arriving in the village, clutching their bits of paper giving them details of where they are going have brains in neutral unfortunately. We have nearly been wiped out numerous times on the junction near the Labrador that just have to assume that the cars are not going to stop nowadays.... hope to catch up with you in January - away in Austria for a week - for that coffee!

One of those rare perfect weather days. Temperature up on the mountain cool, blue sky, no wind. Plenty of snow on piste but rather thin off-piste. No lift queues longer than a few minutes although the pistes 'feel' fairly busy. Had a four hour slide around the Chatel-Linga sector totalling 26km. Eldest son now reliving every second by replaying his new GoPro. It's like having a toddler in the house with all the cooing going on.

Agree with MontriondSkier beautiful blue sky day today, it's been colder past two days too, snow forecast over the next few days which should freshen things up a bit though no complaints here really, pistes are in very good nick on the whole. Main thoroughfares are mad busy at times with idiots but can be avoided. I saw the chopper pick up twice at Plaine Dranse yesterday I've not been out of PLJ sector but a couple of the others have and said it's much busier in the Lindarets - Avoriaz areas. It might quieten down a bit from or after tomorrow, a lot of the French will go home after New Year even though it's not the weekend.

We're in Les Gets for the first time and generally the pistes are in pretty good nick - except the bottom of Chamois - but the queues for lifts have been dreadful. We always ski over the New Year and these are the worst we have seen. Is this normal for Les Gets at this time of year or have there been problems?

Met some friends who are staying in St Jean d'Aulps at the top of the Ardent bubble and headed up Mosettes (quite a scrum there as usual) and then over to Les Crosets, Planachaux, up the Ripaille drag lift down to Grand Paradis and back to Plaine Dranse for late lunch via Grande Conche and Abricotine.
The run down to Les Crosets from Grand Conche only has the blue open but most pistes were in decent nick. Some mud just above the Planachaux chair departure and a few rocky bits on the bends down past Lapisa on the way to Grand Paradis.
Beautiful day with blue sky and no wind to speak of. Pity the sun doesn't get any higher in December.

looks like a bit of rain forecast in Les gets the next few days. Hopefully will not cause too many issues as it turns to snow on Saturday.

3 or 4 inches up at PLJ I would say, very nicely freshened up squeaky pistes this morning, no one around first thing, some fresh tracks on piste and piste edges and another lovely clear blue sky day. Early lunch for me, thighs have had it
Bonne Annee a tous !

I reckon 2cm at the top of Barbossine.
Over to Torgon and La Chapelle this morning - both virtually deserted. Met a Brit on the chair who told me about the 200 person fancy dress party in his chalet. Perhaps everyone haad hAngovers.
Rocks in places but most are avoidable. Some very nice piste skiing still to be had.
Busy anywhere else? Longest queue I have had was 10 people!

Chatel Snow, Is there a lot of evidence of avalanches in the Super Chatel area? I'm thinking the ridge to your right as you go up the Chalet Neuf drag or from the top of the Morclan chair
sarah, thanks - looking forward to enjoying the new snow (safely)

alj, Not seen too much evidence of actual slides - but then my movements have been highly restricted last few days due to having a 5 year old with me and a dose of tonsillitis!!! The 7th photo on this link taken behind the snow park - suggests instability! http://www.chatelweb.com/30122013.php
From my un-trained eye - I have see some lines being done over the last few days that look to be very dodgy indeed and this includes some on the right of the drag that you mention above. I should have taken a photo this morning - as it appeared there was a hike or randonee trail going underneath what appeared to be old avalanche debris on that ridge - I'm kicking myself that I did not take that shot, as I took about 30 photos from the top of that drag - including one of the avalanche flag on the piste security hut!
edit - 7th photo (not 5th photo)
