Didn't know it was that bad. Altitude for altitude, the western Scottish ski areas of Glencoe and Nevis Range almost certainly have the deepest snow in Europe at present. If you're Facebook-registered, check this out [Braveheart chairlift, Nevis Range] ...
Hell yeah! I love shredding on wind pack, see you soon!

The precarious avalanche prone conditions of a while back are gone. The snowpack has stabilised generally and the depth hoar has gone in the majority of what were the higher risk aspects and elevations. It's still possible that slides that do occur will be full depth and the south aspects should be treated like it's april but generally it's good.
I have never seen a piste as icy as on the way to Zug yesterday that never saw the sun, but the riding in Zurs was fantastic spring conditions.
In the office in Buchs (450m) and there's all sorts of snowing going on! Make me happy Stanton, what's the happy haps?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Been snowing here in resort since this morning (guessing it started about 4:30am going by what I could see out my window the numerous times I woke up during the night) and still going steady, probably around 4cm in resort already.
stanton, .......and no doubt it'll be raining in Bregenz!
Ankle dust in town could well be shin pow on Kapall and knee pow in Hinterrendl and on Maroi......it's all good, keep it coming!!

We have around +5C up on Gampen & Rendl this afternoon.
For best sliding get up early and ski the North/ North/West Facing slopes on Rendl,Stuben or Zurs
Great day today. Mostly on piste flying about, some forays into the pow, can't complain much better than expected. Can't stop laughing, snowing up on Valluga, last run down, sunny all day!!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Markymark29, how are you liking Warth? And have you been to s'Murmele yet?
Then ski either the red itinery or more direct off piste descent
to . Small 100m hike to the ingress
At the end ofthe descent by Schröcken Church there is a small Hutte serving drinks where you can wait for the bus (free)
to take you back to Warth lifts
Worth doing before they build the new lift up from Schròcken then it will be just
a regular descent..

Folks. Just be glad your skiing Arlberg or Silvretta because in the East Tirol there is nothing but white lines down greens hills
stanton, just noticed this (even though I posted right below it... hmm). I assume you mean the Eastern part of North Tyrol (e.g. Kitzbuehel)? Because "East Tyrol" itself (i.e. Osttirol) seems to be having a very good season. I was just in Sudtirol / Alto Adigé and they also have way more than St Anton, I skied plenty of powder last week, it snowed 20cm+ on Tuesday and again after we left on Thursday. Basically anywhere south of the main alpine ridge is having a good season so far. I guess the weather systems so far have just been blowing the right way to dump snow south of the ridge and blow hot air further north (it was not actually all that cold in Sudtirol, was above freezing in the valley on Tuesday and pretty wet snow low down).

Can also recommend the Koerbersee mentioned by Stanton, stopped there over the summer a couple of years ago for lunch when walking from Lech to Hochkrumbach.
Went over to Warth today, some pistes are still not open there (one black that takes you back towards the Lech link and a red near the Karhornbahn) but the pistes as you got to Warth side were nice, the red down to the Lech link on the other hand is a brown stripe with bits of grass showing through in places. Looks like it's suffering from the extra traffic this season with the link being in operation, it's the only run for people to use to get to the Auenfeldjet. Plenty of easy-access off piste, the area has a feel almost like Zürs meets Sonnenkopf. Ate at the Steffisalp self service place just above the lift of the same name in Warth, large portion of spag Bol and a large coke cost me just under €14.

You really do talk a load of shit don't you? It leaves such a bad impression of the Dutch as a nation. Happily I do know that not all of your landsmen are complete tossers.

Steilhang,
Snowing at altitude pm today, raining now in town, looking forward to some fresh in the morning. Caught last lift up Schindler tonight, skied down to Ulmerhutte in powder and never saw another person until I got to Zammermoosbahn station, just magical!
Don't worry if you're coming out here its quiet, pistes are in great condition and there's some decent OP too, did Larches, St Christoph and a few others this morning in decent pow!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

That picture and St Anton might look a bit whiter this time next week.
jonty, Bergfex predictions are based on data from ZAMG, the official Austrian weather service. So, it's certainly got some credibility. I think the temps, wind speeds and when it will snow are fairly accurate, the snow depths are not. At best they are a rough indication, but given how much snow depths vary depending on wind, location, aspect etc you simply can't rely on them. If it says "30cm" then I'd say there'd be a dump, if it says "5cm" I'd say there'd be a trace. You have to bear in mind that predicting weather in the mountains is more complex than predicting precipitation in general, I don't think the models they use can get close to the complexity but they are a good indicator of the general patterns. If you are looking for powder then if the wind is blowing the right way at the right speed you can get good stashes of kneed deep snow when Bergfex say only 5cm is going to fall. Conversely if the wind is too strong or jut blowing the wrong way you can have bare slopes when 20cm has fallen. You just need to know where to look. And also if there is wind there will be wind slab too, but that's a whole other topic.
Like any forecast they can be wrong, and the further out the less reliable they are. I've generally got the impression that they are quite over optimistic when it comes to predicating snow a few days out, but within a couple of days range they are pretty good. Certainly as good as any other site out there.
The Tirol avalanche service posts a weather outlook along with the avalanche report; this might well be based on the same data but is written by people with specific knowledge of the mountains so tend to be very accurate but it is only for 24 to 48 hours out. The forecast on the St Anton website is also pretty good, again probably uses the same data from ZAMG but I could be wrong. I tend to rely on the Tirol one more than the others though.

stanton, my post had nothing to do with your weather reports. It was a response to your assessment of all other ski areas as being only for beginners. This lead me to believe that you are talking a load of shite.
