Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

It also will give them the chance to experience what looks like the longest green piste I can ever remember seeing that runs down to La Daille "verte" while i can explore other routes down..... Very Happy

The "verte" is crap- it's only classed green to fool people that anyone can ski down to Daille - seriously there are some very challenging bits and it can get very scraped and scary. Last time I took the gondola down straight into Val D'Isere

The 'Verte' is a tough run for a green - very long from the Rocher de Bellevarde (or from the Col de Fresse via the green 'Borsat' run) down to la Daille, but is made much worse as most people take a wrong turning at the Trifollet restaurant ie left down the red 'OK' run, instead of straight across the OK into the trees, then left down the lower part of 'Verte' to the bottom of the Etroits chairlift or the Funival. That said, if the 'OK' is being used for World Cup racing at the start of the season then you are forced to take the red 'Stade de Competition' run at the Triffolet.

Aha - I think that's what happened to us as it was indeed world cup day - still crap regardless of whether its red yellow green or orange

Hmmm.....Mrs MA & I are having generally poor luck with ski weather so far this season. Of 11 or 12 days since November (in Espace Killy, Pennines, Scotland and Austria) I think we've had one sunny day, a couple overcast and the rest either snowy or foggy. Not looking like much change from that for our next 7 days (from tomorrow) at Espace Killy Sad

It's a bluebird day today (see webcams) and set to clear up by the end of the week. You may get your fix after all.

We were very lucky with the weather over New Year. Tuesday it snowed and was poor light but every other day was bluebird.

Luck of the draw.

Thursday as far as I remember it, or have I been spending too much time in The Alpaka bar?

But yes, it has indeed been a beautiful day. Still a bit too warm at village level but anything a bit higher has been wonderful and under bright sunshine to boot. It was a bit windy on the Grand Motte but not enough to stop the lifts.

It's our last day and we've definitely gone out on a good one Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Looking at the synoptic charts, any snow today will be the last for this week with the possibility of it getting quite warm by the weekend.

Once again the clouds are clearing this morning so should be a great day.

Unfourtunatly the avalanche risk has risen to generally 3/5 and 4/5 on wind affected slopes. I think a day for piste skiing(which will probably be no different to off piste)

Yes that's right - you just need friends in high places wink

For anyone coming here in the next couple of weeks keep smiling as the snow is still very good on piste, above 2100m, and the offpsite is still very good. The runs down into Brevieres are still skiable but very icy Sad

To finish off a very good this afternoon we took the aeroski and skied offpiste into val claret before taking the Tichoet and grattalu liftys before having a small climb to ski the chardonney bowl followed by sasche off piste. All very good and lots of fresh tracks still to be had Very Happy

The snow in Val should be similar to Stewart's photos.

It is set to get extremely cold later this week. Max temps of -13degC and night temps of -19degC.

re snow forecast for this week,it depends on which snow report you look at,as some have cold and dry and others like Meteofrance have snow thurs then sat and sunday, they are our met office equilivant i think,so anything could happen, hopefully snow as i,m there from the 19th feb, which leaves plenty of time for it to snow and melt 10 times over, when are you going HORNSTER great name by the way

Was in Val for the day today and snow was OK. Generally hard-packed with icy patches, pretty much par for the course for a busy resort.

Off piste is tracked and sun-crusted, but there are nice pockets to be found on shady slopes.

I am holidaying in Val d'Isere.

We have had two days of brilliant sunshine. The pistes are quiet and in very good condition. Monday we skied over Col Pers, the long traverse before the Col was not much fun, but it saved walking up while carrying skis. Then we skinned a little way up Glacier Pers. Had some bits of nice powder before skinning up to the ridge that avoids the George. Down from there was much like skiing a mogul field. The road from Point St Charles was good. Tuesday we skied Pay Desert, way out to skiers left of the pistes then had a short skin to access the poma. The pistes were good. The Traverse du Laisiant (spelling ?) (the path from the 'L' to the nursery slopes) was fast but there are icy patches near its start, so be careful of how fast you enter the traverse.
