Hi all, hows the snow holding out after last weeks warm temps? I see that the next 10 - 14 days are all forecast to be below zero (weather.co.uk & metcheck) but there seems to be very little snow forecast. I suppose with it being consistently cold the artificial stuff can be produced and there's already a good bed down. I'm not pannicking just curious as to the conditions, 4 weeks to go................

Montgenevre yesterday was -20C and blowing a hoolie up top. Serre Chev today -12C mid afternoon but sunny and still. Snow is hard and icy in places, few stones still showing even after last nights snowmaking. Best return to Villeneuve (Cas du Boeuf) was closed for ice and rock but most of us ducking the rope. Still loads of good off-piste snow above Chantemerle and high parts of Monetier. Back to Grand Bretagne tomorrow but it's been a great week.

Just returned, a holiday with a lot of problems. But the skiing made up for it. Brake down on the Latauret after a 3 hour drive as it was getting dark sums it up well.
It was rather cold yesterday at the top of Yret, -18 C.
Their was fresh snow on Friday morning that was georgous to ski.
I love the area. Especially the unpisted moguls of Cibouit and Tabuc.
I will report more extensively later.

Just got back from a great week in Serre Che. Fantastic time, brilliant snow (perhaps a tad too cold the last few days). Nice to meet moffatross a few times.
Highly recommended to anyone (especially through Neilson, who were great)
Happy New Year to all
Ed (shame we got back to broken central heating!)

Looks like more snow due in the next week!! i hope it keeps coming. Last season it 'puked' it down on our second day there and is was awesome (i love these youngsters expressions..... ).

Dodge, Got back from SC on Sunday.
We has an awesome time - The snow was great when we got there, but was hoping for some more fresh pow. Up top is much better than the lower slopes, and there's still some nice off piste to be had.
Le Grand Aigle is not too bad. I don't know how much you paid, but when got what we paid for. The only aspect I didn't like was the Assistant Manager. He was somewhat of a knob end to us (group of young(ish) people having fun) and had zero people skills. I could insert some strong profanities to explain how I feel about him, but I wont! Nevertheless, the 'kids' working there were down to earth and good fun.
The storage facilities for boards etc were too small for us (4 in each room), and not particularly secure, so we kept them in the room. The AM wasn't particularly pleasant about it, but we weren't prepared to leave £2k + worth of kit in a room open to anyone to walk into, so he just had to put up with it, whether he liked it or not.
Spent far too much time (and money) in La Grotte. Once we found out they had Desperado on tap it went rapidly downhill!
To be honest, I've never been away boarding and stayed anywhere plush. Is the snow is good, and I have a bed and shower, I'm happy. If you're going as a family, you might expect more.
Whatever the situation, you'll have a good time

AlainR, thanks for the update on Le Grande Aigle, we are 2 adults and 1 child but are not expecting the earth. Which night does the chef have off and can you recommend an eaterie for the night. Also how far were the lifts from the hotel? is it hard work or as described in the brochure.
Cheers
Cafu

Simon, Just returned from Monetier.
The bars are rather quiet. L'Alpen bar is the best, it has a selection of english ales.
I liked the restaurant called the Caribou, it is behind the church.
Didn't eat out much this year, so I dont have a wealth of knowledge.
Avoid the restaurant for lunchtime (Pre Chabert I think) at the bottom of the slopes, the food wasnt particularly cheap. It tasted cheap and was laden with way too much salt. Horrible.

Cafu, He had Tuesday off whilst we were there. There's a few nice looking restaurants down the road which, and a few pizzaria type places. The staff in the hotel will be able to advise you best.
There's a lift pretty much right out the back out of the hotel - Walk out the back door, over about 20 foot of snow and you're on piste

AlainR, thanks for the info on Le Grand Aigle. I'm there in a couple of weeks. I look forward to meeting this assistant manager! I've got a couple of pairs of skis that i don't really want to get nicked, so looks like I might have to find the same solution you did!!
Definitely up for meeting fellow 's for a few turns, or a few beers. Or both.
