It’s a real shame that it has come to this really but it sounds like they’ve had a jolly good go at persuading people to have it that haven’t and some just won’t.

If you count doing pretty much nothing as a “jolly good go”. Govt has already come up for criticism for their lack of spending on the campaign.

All parts with an incidence of over 1000 and for three weeks initially according to Spiegel. It’s expected other areas will follow.

Oh I thought DB said a couple of pages back they had been trying for months to get people to have it?

Well I suppose, technically, they have been “trying” since the vaccines were released, but the levels of take up dropped off rapidly around the beginning of August, and not much was really done to improve that.

@VolklAttivaS5, bit difficult to keep up when we are now on 102 pages
In response to an earlier question about Bavaria
The Bavarian First Minister, Markus Söder has finished a press conference to update on measures here in Bavaria quotes as follows (apologies for any poor autotranslation)
Quote: |
Theoretically, all residents of Bavaria could have been vaccinated from the age of twelve in October. But in Bavaria the vaccination rate is very low: There is a gap of 4.6 million people who are not vaccinated, said Söder. The incidence in the unvaccinated is 1500, in the vaccinated only 110. The Bavarian Ethics Council does not consider a general vaccination obligation to be excluded. If there is still not enough vaccination in six months, "we have to face this debate again fundamentally," said Söder. For next year one has to consider "whether a further mandatory vaccination is not necessary in order to get out of this endless corona loop". |
Quote: |
Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder has announced a new tiered concept for the Free State. They want to block, slow down, boost - i.e. fewer contacts, reduce the number of infections and more vaccinations. The cabinet made the new resolutions at a meeting on Friday morning: Bavaria wants to determine the epidemic situation. There are contact restrictions for unvaccinated people - a maximum of five people from two households are allowed to meet. In addition, the system is tightened by 2 G - for example, body-friendly services such as hairdressers are now included. The trade remains exempt from 2 G, but there should again be limits on the maximum number of people.
There is again a curfew from 10 p.m. Clubs, discos and bars have to close completely again - initially for three weeks. All Christmas markets in Bavaria are canceled. From now on, 2 G plus should apply to all cultural and sporting events: vaccinated or recovered - and always with a mask. Only a maximum of 25 percent of viewers are allowed to be there. The aforementioned tightening apply nationwide, said Söder.
The situation is different in the hard-hit districts, where the situation is already more dramatic. In hotspots with a seven-day incidence of more than 1000, public life is to be shut down in large areas: There, restaurants, sports and cultural venues, for example, have to close, and events are prohibited. There are exceptions in these areas only for daycare centers and schools as well as in retail.
The new, tightened measures should apply from Wednesday, November 24th. Before that, the state parliament has to discuss the rules and approve the changes. |
Not completely clear what some of this means in practice, eg can "Gasthofs" remain open - bars being places where people stand around and drink as opposed to the local village spot where they serve food and beer.
One regulation that has been introduced is 3G on public transport but anyone covered by the test option has to have had a test in the previous 24 hours. We have one person who travels in on the bus and is not vaccinated, he will have to have daily tests!
No mention of ski areas. I would interpret what is being said as they will have to close in areas with a very high incidence. This would currently only cover such places as Berchtesgaden & Reit im Winkl. The likes of Garmisch, Spitzingsee, Sudelfeld would not be in very high incidence areas.

For those hoping for a 20 day lockdown and a pre xmas skiing holiday. How often has a lockdown ended on time? Possibly one of UK lockdowns but I don’t recall it ending well in the long run. I don’t want to sound like the harbinger of doom, but if it was me and I had the option to cancel then I would do so. I cannot see how Austria can go from full lockdown to ski season fully open in the space of a day or two.

@zzz, Erm, pretty much never. I don't remember whether the “lockdown ost” ended on time, maybe someone who was affected can confirm. Last November's 1 month restriction was on and off at various levels for about seven months
However, I have noticed a change in tone from those in charge. It is a “maximum” of 20 days rather than the usual “minimum”, so maybe they mean it this time. There will still be pretty heavy restrictions when it lifts anyway. Most ski areas wouldn't be opening until after that date anyway. Others will delay a couple of weeks. Hopefully they can retain the staff required to do so.

I know, it feels just like this time last year when the lockdown just kept on getting extended. The difference this year of course is that we do actually have the vaccines which should make a difference, but whether it will make a difference for this lockdown I don't know. I'm not cancelling, but am mentally preparing for it not to go ahead.

It's a lockdown for everyone - lockdown for unvaccinated continues after 12th Dec, so it's not the same as normal lockdowns.
Someone posted that one party only agreed to it provided lockdown for vaccinated ends on 12th Dec, so it may indeed end then
Not hopeful (have now booked a flight for 12th as a replacement for my one on the 11th...)

No - it's a 20 day lockdown, starting - I assume - Monday morning. So 12th is after it supposedly ends.

There have been protests from groups with links to the FPÖ on the TV. Will be interesting to see how many accept the ruling and how many make a stance.
If over a third of the population make a hard stance it could end up in riots (as in the Netherlands.)
These people probably won‘t change their minds until a few of them start dying from COVID.
If they are so sure that the stones in their water will protect them, then the vaccinated population who have COVID could put it to the test by talking to them without a mask. Let‘s see what their stones do then.

I just read on ORF this, but while my logic says if it's lockdown it's lockdown, but ORF text is not all that clear...
Quote: |
Der vierte bundesweite Lockdown seit Beginn der Pandemie kommt: Wie Bundeskanzler Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) und Gesundheitsminister Wolfgang Mückstein (Grüne) am Freitagvormittag in einer Pressekonferenz bekanntgaben, schließen Gastronomie, Kultur- und Veranstaltungsbranche sowie Handel (außer Geschäfte des täglichen Bedarfs) mit Montag |
This doesn't make it so obvious if skiing is included or not. Normally ski lifts are under transportation not "Gastronomie, Kultur- und Veranstaltung" nor stores. So maybe my ski season didn't end just yet

I'm not intending to go to Austria this winter so have no dog in this fight, but...
Given that they only locked down the unvaccinated last week, and everyone from Monday, and we know that it takes 7-10 days ish for new infections to show up in the figures, I fail to see how they're going to get the infection and hospitalisation rates going down again in only 20 days. If it's going down before Christmas it'll be a miracle.

They'll just claim it was something else.
Or they'll overdose on vitamins and worming tablets
I wouldn't be surprised to see bigger protests. There also seems to be a vocal cohort or oppose all restrictions on freedom, except that this lot *are* vaccinated. They won't like the compulsion though.

@Scarlet, hairdressers, especially those in Austria, are last thing I care about, especially with my hairstyle Ski places on the other side are more of an interest. Sure closes one in Slovenia is 10km from me, but I rather drive to let's say Nassfeld (or currently Molltal) even if it's about 1h drive, and have proper fun. So for me, if Austria closes lifts, it's no alpine skiing for me. Well xc skiing and ski touring is not all that bad, but would still be cool to get few proper turns on GS or SG skis. With "lockdown" that would leave ski resorts open, SG skis would come even more handy as everything would be way less crowded as usually

Not sure Obergurgl have done their maths...should be from 12th if 20 days?
"Dear guests and locals,
from Monday, 22 November 2021, the Austrian Federal Government will impose a complete 20-day Lockdown for everyone. These severe Corona safety measures mainly serve to ensure the safety of our guests, employees and the local population.
Accommodations, gastronomy and leisure time facilities will therefore remain closed during this time.

"Ski operation on Saturday, November 20th & Sunday, November 21st under the currently valid safety measures. From Monday, November 21st, the Hintertux Glacier will remain closed probably until December 12th, 2021 due to the officially decreed lockdown for the whole of Austria".

Come on! It's not really a lock down. People still go to work, the schools are open. It won't do anything.
Instead of locking down or making vaccination compulsory, abolish the free testing and make all unvaxxed pay 50-100 euro a week fot tests just to go to work (or to the compulsory meeting at the job center).
They've no interest or intent to march people down to the clinic and make them get the shot. I think all they're trying to do, is make enough people believe that the vaccine mandate is going to happen so they might as well get vaccinated now. Not optimistic it's going to happen

I believe working from home is compulsory where possible, and keeping your kids off school is “encouraged”. The rest is valid though, and I fully expect compulsory vaccination to be challenged in court.
