Im predicting major problems, snow build up (to much) avi danger during the busiest week xmas-new year....

Will be very ironic if after years of avoiding Xmas/New Year due to the threat of no snow, the one year we do come out is disrupted due to too much snow!

Worth checking Franz Trimmel's Blog as he sometimes gives a weather / conditions report. Franz is a professional who really is in St Anton skiing and not just regurgitating stuff from websites or others. He's ex Piste to Powder who has set up his own guiding company with Hannes Schöberl.
Click on "Blog"
Franz is Austrian (English isn't his first langauge)
"Currently mostly good manageable danger spots.
Beware of fresh snowdrift! It continues very turbulent!Winter has already got us under control. By new snowfall from 08.12. on the 09.12. with mostly powerful high winds have build more snowdrift accumulations. The danger still changes between moderate and considerable, but due to the increase in danger spots today for North Tyrol on a “low” 3 above the tree line. The susceptibility of fresh snowdrift accumulations speaks for a 3, the size of the danger spots in the newer snow-poorer regions rather for a 2 …It is not so important the danger level, it is much more important to recognize fresh drift snow in the area and to know that this can usually be triggered in the steep terrain already by low load. This is increasingly possible in shadow slopes and increasingly near the ridge lines. In the sunny, very steep terrain, a weak layer of angular crystals was also observed in an altitude range between about 2000m and 2300m and above about 2800m below a thin crust (danger pattern cold on warm from 25.11.). Radiation and heat influence on 07.12. has had a positive effect in the meantime. The snowpack should be there, if only to disturb under heavy load."

Rendl opened yesterday with lovely conditions on and off (although, given it's Rendl, you could see some places where the rocks were poking through the off piste where people had gone over). They've widened the first narrow section as you come down R1 from Gampberg/Rendlbahn bergstation towards the bottom of the old Tobel T-bar and put fencing up which should be much better when it gets busier. However it's still back to the old narrow track after that, although that section never got as bumpy/icy/halfpipy as the first section

Rendl never gets as much snowxas the Western flank.
Rocks are always the hazard especially early season even with the snow we have had. They are a very real hidden danger

@stanton, there’s more on Rendl than you can see from the taxi window and view on the webcams. It’s not all rocks, plenty grassy areas to play on, much care required though I agree.

Really? I was thinking the same about you.
Last week I skied 6 days. Did an avalanche course with 5 Austrian friends for 2 days, ski toured alone for one day then skied with 5 other snowheads during the next 3 days.
You say you are in St Anton and many snowheads ski there, which snowheads have you skied with? Everytime I ask if you are up to ski / ski tour in St Anton you hide and don't come out
I'm guessing you are either not in St Anton or you have something to hide or you are worried that someone might take offence personaly to the wind up anti-british posts you often post here.
So when are you going to get out more and stop hiding behind the internet?

@Langerzug, not at all, that's a simple fact! Particularly Damüls/Sonnenkopf/Stuben/Lech (Montafon a bit less so - btw I lived there for about 18 months too). That little corner picks up snow from the west (or NW) so much better than here - though it's more equal when a true Nordstau comes (and IME Nordkette gets more snow than anywhere else - inc Arlberg - when it really comes straight on down from the north).
Happily I get 3 days in the Arlberg on my season pass so I can make the most of both

Anybody know if there have been any piste changes around the Flexenbahn, especially around Mittelstation, to ease the chaos* that ensued last year?
* Yes, I know some people will dispute that there were any issues, but it did not earn the nickname of “Fiascobahn” from many for no reason.

Sylvester (New Years) Fireworks.
The Official Resort Fireworks this season are replaced with a Huge Laser Show.
It will not stop the general public from setting off their own fireworks
@ulmerhutte, It will be interesting to see how the "Fiascobahn" works this year. Last year
could have been down to the fact that the off piste, for large amounts of the season, was limited, therefore more people
were piste skiing. With the amount of snow already this year the busy weeks coming up may paint a different picture.
I would predict, though, that the chaos will still be there, until the many upgrade mooted here fro zurs are completed!
@ulmerhutte,
Was it just crowds problems or is the interconnect not really functional? We are coming to Lech in January and I'm hoping to be able to get to St Anton a good bit.

@Ptspeak, Don't worry about it, it was first season teething troubles - peoples initial interest based on the hype, the fact that there wasn't enough offpiste to go at and people were chasing over the hills for it (in both directions), it was super icy on piste and they were thinking the grass was greener (not literally) over the hill, and also that people were daft enough to travel at peak lift times, and then stand in queues slagging the investment off.
Do the moaners on here seriously think that ABB would spend all that money and not do their research first regards pinch points analysis and flows?
Its brilliant....end of.
@Ptspeak, the problem it causes is that there are a number of places such as Madlochbahn which were always busy but now with the ease with which people can travel across from St Anton and wanted to try the Weiße Ring became too crowded to be comfortable. So it’s not that it doesn’t work rather that it works too well. Zurs used to be pleasantly quiet, last season the lift queues built up too much. A few weeks ago with almost no one in resort it worked splendidly. Whether it will settle down this year remains to be seen.
