Sorry to hijack the weather thread but I was hoping for some mountain restaurant recommendations for the Serre Chevalier area - where are the good places to eat? Is there anywhere on the mountain a gentleman can ask for a Gin and Tonic without being laughed out of the bar (this pretty much happened to me in Sauze - I went back the next day and demanded Grappe to try and win the Italians over). Thanks

@Minion1980, I've never ordered one up the mountain before, I tend to stick to vin chaud. I've ordered one in the Alpen bar in Monetier, but that is in the village. AS for mountain restos, best by far are in no particular order . Chalet Peyra Juana (blue Rochamout piste on Monetier side), Troll (Serre Ratier plateau underneath Cafe Soleil), Chalet Hotel Serre Ratier and Bivouac (at top of Casse du Beouf. Halte Pre Chabert as bottom of Monntier pistes does a good Plat du Jour.

@Minion1980, sorry can't be of assistance - though should imagine very upmarket Pia Mai and Echaillon might be able to help in that department, especially the former.
Evidently from my dog sitter very windy up top today so they stayed lower down on their classes.

@Minion1980, I'm not even sure if they do one at PiMAi, they do a wonderful hot chocolate (avec rhum) and one of the best Vin Chauds, but can't say I've noticed any gin on the bar. Biggest bar on the mountain is the Café Soleil.

Snowheads had long lunch in claviere with beer and bombardinos 😃
Cold and windy and rescued from a 40 minute hike by a wind slab 😱 Admin delighted 😃
Off to sestriere tomorrow hoping for blue skies, powder fields, long descents and short lunches 😉

SoPiB's gone soft with age: with Nick Parks it was no lunch and a very long hike (downwards...through dusty trees...in the wrong country)

Ok mild panic setting in for when we are in Serre Chevalier next week... Minimum Temperatures at a tropical +3 and 11mm of Rain on Monday according to one website... any of you lovely people in the region got any "local" weather forecasts to hopefully contradict this

Yeah I saw that, worrying indeed, rain at 2000m!

@Minion1980, we have short listed Serre Chevalier as a contender for our easter holiday departing 28 March. Would be good to have a conditions report when you get back? I'll be primarily interested whether the snow's good enough down to about 2000 meters, that way we could stay up high and still do a fair amount of runs.

Well I will be returning on the 28th mini mo so could be too late for you. I'll see if I can post anything whilst I'm there.
Looking at the webcams this morning it looks like they've had some snow overnight.

@Minion1980, we're back in the UK now, [b[Weathercam[/b] has gone to Austria, and the Off-PIste bashers are far too busy off-piste. Drop back in next week, and I'm sure ther will be some updates.

Just back down from a pleasant ski and a thank you lunch for our friend at Pi Mai who looked after our dogs whilst we were in Austria. For a Saturday transfer day surprisingly busy but no queues. Think many of the people out were property owners who were making the most of their last few days having had in effect a nine day break with some very chic people on the terrace blinged up!
As for snow still very good on piste but all eyes on what the forecast might deliver over the next few days. Looks like rain in the valley. Just hope that snow line is a lot lower than that being predicted!
So no more road trips planned though might nip over to LG depending on what the snow Gods determine.

@Minion1980, Thanks that would be appreciated, especially if you could do it as soon as you get there, as we are planning to book a week before we go.

The runs to Briancon were closed below the midstation when we were there in January.

Very spring like this morning walking the dogs but now rather depressing as we've had light rain all afternoon and can't see any sign of fresh snow beyond Frejus and La Balme and meant to be heavy rain all day tomorrow
Temp plus 5 degrees at 18:00 here at 1400m does not bode well for overnight.
Back to glass half empty - oh well writing up various articles after the ski test in Austria last week.

Had to close the window last night due to the sound of running water and rain
All as forecast, temps +3 so maybe snow line circa 2000m - though can't really see - Serre Ratier webcam looks like a dusting on a table maybe as temps dropped ?
Looking at the Serre website they have at 1400 12cm of new snow and temps at Zero - I must be living in a different place !

Been pretty grim all day here though not as bad as forecast with rain easing around Noon and was not that heavy anyway, though cloud was down to around 1600m.
Some huge gusts came through every now and again.
I've just come off the phone to a friend in La Grave, still raining quite heavy in the village but the lift has been closed all day anyway due to the strong winds.
So will wait and see..........
Casse du Boeuff still looked very busy at one point this afternoon whilst above Pontillas / Club Med looked quite empty ?
Does look quite windy for the rest of the week as well.
Certainly a very different season so far to last year - sorry I know glass half empty and all that.
