Now don't get too excited, but as the Cucumelle/Vallons webcam is now back up and running, it is time to keep an eye on that snow.
I do wish I could embed the camera onto the page, but it is beyond me so you will just have to put up with the link.

Cacciatore, it wasn't there a month ago, so yes, it is nice to see it. There's already a good covering on the L2A glacier apparently.

Here you go off the Serre FaceBook today
Mind you way too early to get excited remember what happened before the start of last season and how that early snowfall that then melted caused that unstable layer.
That said we'll be out as and when, if there's substantial snow prior to the official opening we'll go out and ski tour etc

Weathercam, thanks. Nice pic (and run)
Remember doing the Marteau blue and then dropping onto the Casse du Beouf black near the end of my first ever weeks skiing. Somewhat scary, at the time, as I recall.

Wow indeed.... is the resort not open yet...? Surely a covering like this would mean them wanting to get the punters through the door!

@Weathercam, do you think it'll survive the very warm days coming up? Freezing level well over 3000m by the look of it. If there's a big melt then re-freeze, that can make for a good base I think - or have I got that wrong?
@Spike107, a lot of resorts will start some limited weekend opening from early December, if snow permits, though at present things are going to have to get colder for snow to permit except at the highest altitudes. It's been cold the last few days but before that was very mild (warm ground) and it's getting very mild again. Snow cover is too fickle in December for it to be worth opening lower resorts - and even in Tignes, Val Thorens etc where cover is usually pretty good, there are few punters about. It's a great time to ski if conditions are good though.
It's always a roller-coaster in December, if you are hoping to ski at Christmas - feast and famine! And conditions can change very quickly. Last year was a real cliff-hanger, but not too bad in the end.

At the moment, the reports seem to suggest there is 185cm snow-depth on the upper slopes in SC with snow falling to 1400m, rising to 2400 early next week.
@Cacciatore, down to 1200m this morning according to Melanie. There is often big differences in temperature and weather conditions from one side of the Lauteret to the other. I've left Serre Che in heavy snow to find it raining on the other side, and vice-versa.
