Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Markymark29, Thought you might like that, I know you're a Stuben fan (so am I these days, love the place) Happy I didn't post it straightaway... I was thinking of keeping it to myself, but I thought better of it. If more people go there for lunch then hopefully they'll realise it's a good idea to open up. Only trouble is I can imagine spending a loooong lunch in there when it's really cold and windy outside and I'm faced with the prospect of that chairlift ride back up!

sah, Ha yep..... that's the worry, those creaky floors, warm fire, great food and a steady flow of Weizen is a recipe for disaster! wink

That said there'll be no time for that pre-4pm we'll be skinning up Maroikopf for fun, hope that cold front and snow on 13/14th arrives right on cue, av risk is going to be very high though I suspect.

Thanks again re Murmele, one of my favourite places in Arlberg for a cheeky stop!

obviously check the reports nearer the time, but the current foehn could have a stabilising effect longer term, from what Stanton and others are saying a lot of stuff is releasing now and the Tirol reports suggest things are stabilising in the next few days. I think there are some deep weak layers high up in sheltered N facing slopes though, these could persist longer but with it being above freezing even at the summits I wonder if they might either release or transform in to something more stable. However, if it turns cold again the thin snow pack could still develop depth hoar, so lets hope it snows loads soon!!!

I was planning to ski in Garmisch next week as I'm in Munich for a few days; now looking at taking a train to Sud Tirol instead...

Surely folk go to St Anton to ski St Anton not yo dpend sllday on the bus & lifts getting to some ski area [Warth] that on a par with Seefeld!

At least you get value ouy of your €40 pro tag lift ticket. Haha.

They built that lift so the intetmediates could access the more challenging Arlberg terrain not the other way round.

Well, I'll not be finding out then!!! If it's more than €4 for a beer I feel ripped off.

Who pays that kind of money and skis in St Anton? Russians?

It's €5 for a beer in the Underground now, I'm sure it was €3.80 last year (or maybe that was the year before?). It's getting crazy, I think I'll be staying in Stuben more often in future. Sadly that won't make the lift pass any cheaper...

About to head over to St. Anton from the USA - first time, have skied French resorts in previous years.
How much more snow is needed in Arlberg to make it fully operational (ski to town, off piste, no exposed rocks and grass, etc.)?
Hopefully, four weeks from today I will be skiing deep fresh snow in St.Anton !

Cheapski, Most runs are open (every run maybe? I can't think of any that are closed) and every lift is running, runs to town are fine, they have so much snow making those runs stay open until April no problem.

Off piste is another story, that needs more cover. If you pick your spot and you are not to worried about your skis there is off piste to be done but there's no doubt it needs more cover.

Valluga North first thing this morning, no warm-up run. Snow wasn't too bad, bit heavy and my skiing was ropey but got down without falling. Then some skiing up above Stuben down to Ferwall. Snow was good at the top but crusty lower down.

Good effort! That's a good day out and I'll stop moaning about the off piste, if you can do those 2 in a day then the off piste isn't so bad!

Dont worry. It will be amazing after 4 weeks. At this moment, it is not bad: Stuben, Zurs, some routes in Rendl.

Skinned up to Maroikopf and then skied down to Langen today. Nice powder at the top and only a bit crusty approaching the trees. Path through the trees was icy in places but perfectly skiable.

Markymark29, the waterfall was frozen and there was plenty of snow around that area, enough to allow skiing down to the road.

kb36, pistes were good last week - very good in fact. The warming won't help the lower slopes but as soon as it cools they'll turn the cannons on (they may still be on at night). They'll be fine for the foreseeable future.

Folks despite the highly anticipated cold front coming to a lot
of Europe this weekend. The Arlberg will continue into next week with the warm hair dryer (Fohn)

No major snow in sight.

Despite above reports on Off Piste. I would strongly advise against it. The snow depth is very thin & just covering dangerous rocks & dtches.

Do not ski Mainesee, Tobel off piste slopes of the top of Galzig these could go anytime .

What you think may look safe is probably not & the worse decision you will ever make.
