Swiller, maybe, but that doesn't rule out the ski shows being ruled (in a sort of Blofeld/International Rescue fashion) from an offshore castle.

Has everyone missed the obvious and most important point? The single fact that will be the decider on which show to go to (for those that can be arsed).
Where will the SNOWHEADS stand be?
The rest is just fluff.

I think admin is finding it hard to decide which show to go to. I wonder if Snivel has decided which show to lend its prestige to...?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Alastair Pink, I predict that there will only be one show to go to by the time we get to October. There is a finite number of exhibitors and most seem to be heading for Manchester from what I hear, and the Manchester show is part of a huge media group who can weather a storm or three and can afford to make a loss on it this year. I don't think Birmingham are in the same boat. And some notables have decided to exhibit at neither due to the uncertainty.
So, they say that Brighams are signed up for Birmingham and won't go to Manchester (interesting, given that Manchester is their birthplace, so it would be as well to hear it from the horse's mouth)
Have Slush+Rubble taken a decision?

Will either be better than the NEC last year? that was pants, I got free tickets and still thought Id been ripped off especially having to pay to park in the completely outdated venue.
All of the vendors were selling things at more expensive prices than they normally do and there was pretty much nothing else

Alastair Pink, admin is probably cunningly holding out until the organiser of the victorious event pays him to go

The menu (right) is geared to selling tickets in July. Can't see that warmed-up mix sending people rushing to whip out their debit cards. If Birmingham can't do something more exciting than that - it has promised greater ambitions and plans - then there's no hope.
This is all a very very diminished version of what used to happen at Earl's Court in the 1970s and 1980s, which included a really spectacular live show.

TRADE NEWS. As far as the Birmingham snow (InTheSnowLive) is concerned, this seems to be the state of play ...
Interesting to see 'Solutions4Feet Boot Fitting Clinic' with a major presence, and 'Ski World Alpine Kitchen' larger still ... but the 'Mooservirt Award for most promising beer fest' goes to 'Apres Bar' - apparently almost the largest feature at the event!

Have just noticed this Tweet from the organisers of InTheSnow Live, from a month ago.
... shows the stands currently booked, as I understand it. Presumably the white spaces are those not booked, but maybe someone can clarify this.
With the Manchester and Birmingham shows now 3-and-a-bit months away, I guess it's decision time for potential standholders. Will both these date-clashing events go ahead?
I emailed In The Snow Live around a month ago for exhibitor info and they never replied, so they must be doing ok for exhibitors!

With three months to go, today ...
It's the venues themselves (Event City, Manchester and NEC, Birmingham) that I guess will ultimately define 'what's on'. As of this morning, both shows are billed ...

Silly Season Update
LIVE NEWS from our Silly Seasonaire
WARNING/DISCLAIMER: Everything in the following report is FACT, and very little should be taken seriously
Last night, the authoritative ski news website and cuddly toy supplier SnowVole stunned/stuffed its readership with a scoop:
Quote:
Now SnowVole will break the NEWS that there will be NO SKI SHOW in Birmingham this year as "In The Snow Live" has been cancelled and can now be called "In The Skip Dead"
It would appear the show has been closed without opening due to a lack of Exhibitor support. We will be speaking with the organisers tomorrow to check the story fully, but for now we suggest you don't consider buying tickets for the Birmingham Ski Show/
It appears that SnowVole didn't actually check the facts with either the show organiser or venue - the NEC.
Meanwhile, SnowVole continued to promise readers (the announcement is still on the front page of its site at the time of typing this) that its 2013 Awards ceremony would go ahead at the same show, as follows:
The 2013 award winners will be presented by British Number Skier Cross lady Pam Thorburn on Friday the 25th October at 4.30pm at “In The Snow Live”, NEC Birmingham.
So, are Snow Vole proposing to hold this ceremony in a large empty building, for the entertainment of its cleaners?
Meanwhile, InTheSnow Live - via the NEC and its official ticket agents - continue to sell tickets for the show ...
This morning, Thursday, we have spoken to the organiser of InTheSnowLive, Dominic Killinger, and he says talks have been going on between the two shows but at the present time both are going ahead as planned.
As of this moment ...
- Snow Vole is continuing to report that the show has been cancelled, while promising to hold its awards ceremony there
- Tickets for InTheSnow Live are on sale
- There are rumours - rumours, you understand - that SnowVole has "at least 593" cuddly stuffed voles in a warehouse/volehouse
- The Pope is a Catholic

Perhaps the Snow Vole has (quantum) tunnelled so deeply into the snow that (like Schrodinger's Cat) it has reached a state where the NEC show is both on and cancelled at the same time....

Quote from the planetski link in Comedy Goldsmith's post above:
"Late on Thursday morning SnowVole stuck by its story and said an announcement was going to be made at 9.00AM this morning with InTheSnowLive cancelling its show. Due to the current publicity that announcement did not happen according to Philip Keith from SnowVole.
There is talk of legal action being threatened over the story."

Ticket sales for both Manchester and Birmingham continue, though neither show is exactly lively on social media (no interesting postings about either show on Twitter/FB recently). Maybe things could be livened up with 'live legal action' at the show, inspired by the dead funny Peter Cook ...

NON-COMEDIC UPDATE
PlanetSki is now reporting that the Birmingham show - InTheSnow Live - has been cancelled, and it's hoped that its standholders will now transfer to Manchester's new 'Ski and Snowboard Show North' at Event City ...
Just to prove the minute-by-minute nail-biting drama, this was the news situation on PlanetSki in the same minute ...

Information release: 15 August 2013
Amicable Resolution to Ski Shows Date Clash
As you may know, InTheSnow Live was formed to replace a show that's taken place at the
NEC for the last 19 years.
VOS Media's Ski and Snowboard Show North is an extension of the VOS Media portfolio
bringing the London based ski show that's celebrating 40 years this year, to the north.
At the time InTheSnow Live was announced, it was not known that VOS Media had plans
to launch a new show in Manchester on the same weekend.
Whilst exhibitor numbers for both shows have been positive, the unfortunate clash of dates
led to a dilemma for many exhibitors or potential exhibitors who did not have the resources
to exhibit at both shows on the same weekend. As a result the two companies have spent
much time discussing how this can be resolved to the benefit of the industry as a whole.
The logical conclusion was that there should be one ski show in the north of England this
October and it's been agreed that the show will operate in Manchester under the VOS
Media brand. Both companies will work to enable the smoothest transition possible for
those customers already booked to appear at the NEC to switch to Manchester should
they wish.
Dominic Killinger, Show Director at InTheSnow Live said, "Our show was formed to enable
the long established show at the NEC to continue. At that time there was no knowledge of
a new show starting in Manchester. However, we are very pleased that two competing
companies in the market can sit down and agree what's best for the industry as a whole
and work towards a common goal of attracting new skiers to a stronger market."
Damian Norman, Managing Director at VOS Media said, "It’s clear that the industry cannot
withstand two shows in one weekend however they are placed geographically and it’s
testament to both companies’ passion for the ski industry that we have been able to agree
a way forward to the benefit of the industry. We welcome the publishing arm of Dominic's
business as a ski media partner across both our ski shows and very much look forward to
a stronger working relationship into the future."
Ends
Inevitable but none the less hilarious - what the "UK ski industry" should have done was boycott both sets of muppets rather than let it get to silly summer brinksmanship. At least it looks like PK briefly shat his pants over the threat of legal action so who's to say no good came of it, even if he was being a playah.
Just hopping back to that statement [4 posts above this one] ... note the date heading it of yesterday 15 August ... though it therefore seems to have been released 24 hours late ... and it's said that the meeting which resulted in it actually took place 9 days ago in Birmingham ...
... so there seems to have been a somewhat delayed 'biting of the bullet' here, possibly accounting for a degree of bullshit in the interim. And quite a few complications for those reporting developments.
Good luck to everyone concerned, and here's hoping for a classic Hollywood happy ending.

As above, the extraordinary 'showdown' [geddit?] of the past week has left one media channel somewhat upset ...

It was categorically denied by the organisers that the show was about to be axed.
However the readers of PlanetSKI, members of the public and exhibitors, were misinformed as we were lied to
There's doubtless a lot more to this affair than meets the eye. One other player - the previous organiser of the long-running ski shows at the NEC [Global Snow Shows] - remains apparently in a 'live' situation. Their website is active and partly up to date, transferring their support to the new Manchester show ...
Apart from that, everything makes perfect sense. Keep calm and carry on going to ski shows.

It doesn't take a genius to realise that arranging for two ski shows to be held on the same weekend was a really bad idea. This has now been recognised by the cancellation of one of them, although it might have been fun if the decision as to which one was to be cancelled was decided by a snowdome race between the competing organisers....

What's new? InTheSnow Live was cancelled last Thursday - according to the date on the statement above.
But the good news for ticket collectors and indomitable optimists is that the NEC are still selling tickets (possibly rarer than tickets for the Titanic) for this non-existent show ...
The 2013 award winners will be presented by British Number Skier Cross lady Pam Thorburn on Friday the 25th October at the Manchester Ski & Snowboard Show.
For those down south this means going closer to the North Vole to attend this unmissable ceremony (which unfortunately I may have to miss, due to a long-standing hair-shampooing engagement).
Meanwhile, it's far from doom and gloom on the InTheSnow website:
