Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alastair Pink, I predict that there will only be one show to go to by the time we get to October. There is a finite number of exhibitors and most seem to be heading for Manchester from what I hear, and the Manchester show is part of a huge media group who can weather a storm or three and can afford to make a loss on it this year. I don't think Birmingham are in the same boat. And some notables have decided to exhibit at neither due to the uncertainty.

The menu (right) is geared to selling tickets in July. Can't see that warmed-up mix sending people rushing to whip out their debit cards. If Birmingham can't do something more exciting than that - it has promised greater ambitions and plans - then there's no hope.

This is all a very very diminished version of what used to happen at Earl's Court in the 1970s and 1980s, which included a really spectacular live show.

Silly Season Update
LIVE NEWS from our Silly Seasonaire
WARNING/DISCLAIMER: Everything in the following report is FACT, and very little should be taken seriously

Last night, the authoritative ski news website and cuddly toy supplier SnowVole stunned/stuffed its readership with a scoop:

Quote:
Now SnowVole will break the NEWS that there will be NO SKI SHOW in Birmingham this year as "In The Snow Live" has been cancelled and can now be called "In The Skip Dead"

It would appear the show has been closed without opening due to a lack of Exhibitor support. We will be speaking with the organisers tomorrow to check the story fully, but for now we suggest you don't consider buying tickets for the Birmingham Ski Show/

Source: http://www.Snivel.com/forum/#topic/Two-Ski-Shows-in-Birmingham-.htm

It appears that SnowVole didn't actually check the facts with either the show organiser or venue - the NEC.

Meanwhile, SnowVole continued to promise readers (the announcement is still on the front page of its site at the time of typing this) that its 2013 Awards ceremony would go ahead at the same show, as follows:

http://www.Snivel.com/
Quote:
The 2013 award winners will be presented by British Number Skier Cross lady Pam Thorburn on Friday the 25th October at 4.30pm at “In The Snow Live”, NEC Birmingham.

So, are Snow Vole proposing to hold this ceremony in a large empty building, for the entertainment of its cleaners?

Meanwhile, InTheSnow Live - via the NEC and its official ticket agents - continue to sell tickets for the show ...

Information release: 15 August 2013

Amicable Resolution to Ski Shows Date Clash

As you may know, InTheSnow Live was formed to replace a show that's taken place at the
NEC for the last 19 years.

VOS Media's Ski and Snowboard Show North is an extension of the VOS Media portfolio
bringing the London based ski show that's celebrating 40 years this year, to the north.
At the time InTheSnow Live was announced, it was not known that VOS Media had plans
to launch a new show in Manchester on the same weekend.

Whilst exhibitor numbers for both shows have been positive, the unfortunate clash of dates
led to a dilemma for many exhibitors or potential exhibitors who did not have the resources
to exhibit at both shows on the same weekend. As a result the two companies have spent
much time discussing how this can be resolved to the benefit of the industry as a whole.
The logical conclusion was that there should be one ski show in the north of England this
October and it's been agreed that the show will operate in Manchester under the VOS
Media brand. Both companies will work to enable the smoothest transition possible for
those customers already booked to appear at the NEC to switch to Manchester should
they wish.

Dominic Killinger, Show Director at InTheSnow Live said, "Our show was formed to enable
the long established show at the NEC to continue. At that time there was no knowledge of
a new show starting in Manchester. However, we are very pleased that two competing
companies in the market can sit down and agree what's best for the industry as a whole
and work towards a common goal of attracting new skiers to a stronger market."

Damian Norman, Managing Director at VOS Media said, "It’s clear that the industry cannot
withstand two shows in one weekend however they are placed geographically and it’s
testament to both companies’ passion for the ski industry that we have been able to agree
a way forward to the benefit of the industry. We welcome the publishing arm of Dominic's
business as a ski media partner across both our ski shows and very much look forward to
a stronger working relationship into the future."

Inevitable but none the less hilarious - what the "UK ski industry" should have done was boycott both sets of muppets rather than let it get to silly summer brinksmanship. Just hopping back to that statement [4 posts above this one] ... note the date heading it of yesterday 15 August ... though it therefore seems to have been released 24 hours late ... and it's said that the meeting which resulted in it actually took place 9 days ago in Birmingham ...

... so there seems to have been a somewhat delayed 'biting of the bullet' here, possibly accounting for a degree of bullshit in the interim. And quite a few complications for those reporting developments.

Good luck to everyone concerned, and here's hoping for a classic Hollywood happy ending.

There's doubtless a lot more to this affair than meets the eye. It doesn't take a genius to realise that arranging for two ski shows to be held on the same weekend was a really bad idea. This has now been recognised by the cancellation of one of them, although it might have been fun if the decision as to which one was to be cancelled was decided by a snowdome race between the competing organisers....
