Mrs Basil hates the PN so if it offers an alternative crossing to Morillon it will make her happy.

Anyone got an "on the ground" report of the snow in the Grand Massif? Or does anyone want to lie to me, just to make my last day at work even better!

BenAS, Had a chat to a mate in les carroz this morning about fixing something in one of our places and he said it was lightly snowing and getting colder in the village, but the snow was a bit wet at the moment, then the talk was all about plumbing........

Hopefully the snow will continue, looks like the temp is about to drop. Good luck with the plumbing.
An odd Question for you, but I am assuming you're a knowledgeable Les Carroz native - I need (yes need!) to spend some money a ski shop in early Jan - any recommendations, need a couple of pairs of skis and some other bits... would like to demo skis. We're in St. Sigsimond for the season, maybe see you there!

BenAS, Not really an odd question. lots of ski shops in les carroz. sylvain at ski 2000 is good, next to marlow pub, I go to him a lot. if you want to demo stuff then perhaps biggest in town is carroz sports
The most specialist place is in cluses, which is cluses racing clinic, not that far from St. Sigsimond. You should be able to demo from them.

One for the season tickets holders (probably).
We are staying in Samoens this year and will need to hire snowboarding kit for daughter and her mate. Having had a look at last years discount card I was wondering if any of the rental shops offer any discount either through a coupon or presentation of the season card. If anybody could recommend an online reservation site, or phone number for a Samoens shop I would appreciate it, or should we just turn up?.
Furthermore. The card has five coupons which state: -50% sur les tarifs des remontees mecaniques du Grand Massif durant l'ete 2012 (Valable sur aller/retour, montee simple du descente simple), which I guess offers a 50% discount for lifts in the GM but I am unsure how this might apply. It would be great if I could take a friend with me for a 1/2 price day ticket but not sure this is how the discount applies.

Looks good on either report. I'm guessing the Cham-metro report is a little more accurate? - we're not out until the end of the month, but I have a habit of getting over excited!

I don't want to state the obvious but you do realise this refers to the summer season - ie a winter season pass gives a 50% discount in the summer along with a presentation of the voucher and season ticket?

mishmash, Not obvious to me, thanks very much for the reply as it could have been awkward at the ticket desk. I see where it says "summer" now.

You could ask if you can use it before the 15th when the winter season opens...

Basil, sorry i though you knew what "durant l'ete" meant...as you typed it!! hence i refered to summer!
you will get 3 paper tickets for other haute savoie resorts with your season pass, but you can only go to another resort once and use it as they cross it off the list printed on the sheet, so don't tear them off, and they have a serial number.
The other thing with a season pass is your picture comes up on the lifties screen when you go through, and i must look dodgy as 3 times now i have been asked for the pass, and to take off helmet and goggles for them to check...daughter found it very amusing...........but don't allow someone else to use yours

It's December... and I'm back to snowheads. I have 3 trips booked this year for the first time. 26-30th December (liking the look of todays weather in advance of that), 13-17 Jan and then Feb half term for a bit of queuing.
Happy new season everyone.

Flaine, is partially opening this weekend
2012-12-03 - Partial opening of the ski area the weekend of 8 and 9 December
Monday, December 3, 2012 by Regis_Lardennois
The snowpack current snowfall expected and our production of artificial snow allows us to announce the partial opening of the Flaine ski area this weekend of 8 and 9 December 2012 .
The ski lifts are planned du Pré and White Desert and the DMC.
The point of sale and information that will open the Great Platières.
The field will be open again, this time continuously, from Saturday, December 15
They have had well over a metre of snow in the last day or so & its still coming down with a lot more forecasted, if Flaine is your resort there is a facebook page run a by one of my mates who spend the season there, he does a daily weather report with pictures, its called Flaine Snow Report he will let anyone join providing it is not a business that wants to advertise themselves on his page.
Lucky bug will be sking this weekend & I have to wait another 2 weeks boo hoo

Ace, just joined, I'm going to be a little further down the hill near Les Carroz for the season, perhaps he'll let me do a "lower" snow report!

carroz, I copied it from the voucher and had a rough idea what it meant, but obviously not when, I'm only normally interested in hiver. I have used the three freebies before so know what all that is about and understand that the season pass is not transferable. I've not been stopped yet though, having had a season pass for three years, so obviously not as dodgy looking as you, (that'll be the kiss of death then). I've not really paid much attention to the voucher sheet before just that this year was looking for some discount on kit rental (Samoens/Morillon) which I don't normally need.

Here's a quick snap of Samoens this morning. We had around 30cms overnight in the village, with reports of 60cm @ 1600m, and 1m at the top! If the weather clears a bit tomorrow we should get up the mountain for a skin and check things out. Still coming down hard...
PS. the new Parements piste breaks off from the Aigle Noir near the top and traverses skiers right above the lake then joins the Dahu piste to the skier's right of the lake. It should give some great views.

Yeah it's fairly heavy. As you climb it very quickly dries out and increases in volume. Which makes me wonder just how much is up top!

Just ordered the season passes for the GM, also decided to splurge a bit and went for a Les Get/ Morzine season pass as well (40% off) - moving to New Zealand in April, so this could be my last chance to ski Europe for a while.... We're only 20mins from Les Gets so with a little help from a tax rebate - I thought why the hell not....
