Problem currently, is how to get to Orelle from VD'I?
|
Ski of the back of the Pisallais glacier down to Bonneval and then get buses down to Orelle?
Sounds an expensive trip to me though. |
and this is the route down to Bonneval

Thanks for that suggestion Tbar, it was by far and away the most extreme and beautiful day's skiing that I have ever had.

summary of trip & costs
Lifts to top of Val D'Isere Glacier - free - already had 6 day Val D'isere pass
Lunch in Bonneval at Les Eterlous - 30 euros (more beer than food)
Bus Bonneval to Modane Gare (left at 16:15) - 10.15 euros (about 1hr15), very pretty and a happy departure from the Englishness of Val D'Isere
Taxi Modane Gare to Orelle (25 euros)
Apartment in Orelle residence - 106 euros
Three Valleys lift pass - free under Espace Olympique scheme
Taxi Courchevel 1300 Le Praz to Champagny 50 euros, (huge thanks to Ryan from Snowlinks - http://www.snowlinx.com - who arrived exactly at the time we walked off the piste)
Paradiski lift pass - free under Espace Olympique scheme (arrived here at 11:50 and the lady in liftpass office wouldn't believe that we had already come from Orelle, very funny)
Taxi Villaroger to Tignes Les Breviers - 75 euros (bit of a con this, he had come from Bourg St Maurice and had 40 on the meter before we got in)
Ski lifts from Tignes to Val d'Isere - free - already had 6 day Val D'isere pass
That's all
Total (excluding meals) = 276 euros split 2 ways = 138 each
Not too bad, for 2 amazing days of skiing

Thanks - it was quite a trip, not one I'd be in a hurry to repeat (a long long way)
Expect these timings could all be improved on as the conditions were awful, e.g had to climb up onto 2 feet of fresh snow just to get out of lift station above Val Thorens (from Orelle).
& had to pole down a lot of Ours into Mottaret through thigh deep powder!!
Timings are from phone logs and photos.
09:00 Left Orelle (on the dot)
Must have been getting on for 25 mins to get to top of mountain before heading down to Val Thorens, 2 long lifts and we had to wait 5 mins before they opened the chair for top half of 4th Valley - we were the first (and only) people on it in a blizzard at about -20 (and it felt like a long way from home).
10:15 - Top of Bouquetin (last lift out of Val Thorens, before Lac De La Chambre into Mottaret)
10:58 Top of Pas Du Lac 2 - Saulire
11:30 - Le Praz (excellent pick up by Ryan @ http://www.snowlinx.com, as we walked off the piste)
11:50 - Champagny lift office
13:45 - Trans Arc Lift
14:30 - Villaroger (there until 15:00 waiting for taxi)
15:30 - Tignes Les Breviers (approx)
16:30 - Val D'Isere (bottom of Le Face)

Altis, I do hope this is detailed enough for you !!!!!

09:48 - Val Thorens, bottom of Plein Sud
10:06 - Top of Col De La Chambre
10:41 - Mottaret
10:57 - Top of Pas Du Lac 2 - Saulire
11:25 - Le Praz
11:51 - Champagny
12:00 - Top of Champagny Cable Car
12:23 - Top of Verdons Sud
12:31 - Plagne Centre (bottom of Bergerie)
12:40 - Plagne Bellecote - bottom of Arpette
13:02 - Arrive Vanoise Express
13:12 - Depart Vanoise Express
13:26 - Bottom of TransArc
13:43 - Top of TransArc
13:56 - Arc 2000, bottom of Lanchette
14:28 - Arrive Villaroger (wait for Taxi)
15:01 - Depart Villaroger
15:19 - Tignes Les Breviers
15:42 - Top of Aiguille Rouge
15:50 - Bottom of Aeroski (I hate this lift, it is so uncomfortable)

Having a re-read of this for sentimentality sake
Heading back to Val D on Sunday 9th Mar - shall we do it again?

Sorry, ajdetpwm, not my idea of a good time,
But - hey - each to his own.
If it was fun last time: go for it.
See if you can do it quicker, or something.
A bit like my son's bonkers quest of getting from La Plagne (La Roche) to the Waffle Place in Val Thorens on skis.
Can be done using Paraglider off Grand Rochette, as shown by Bernard Condon.
But not for me.

ajdetpwm,
Glad you enjoyed it, missed the report back last year. Why not try and spend a day in one of the resorts in the Maurienne this year they really are worth it.

Well done, i'd really like to do that. Did you have to push it top to bottom on each run?

It's not the sort of thing I would do but it's an impressive quest IMV.
I have a feeling that the day-in--another-resort option is no longer available so it could be significantly more expensive now. Worth checking first!
