Yes, I've got the B2 too and they're a very capable, very versatile yet forgiving all mountain/freeride ski.

Errrr, let' see:
I skied the 1080 (no need to duck), nice ski, a bit bland. Skied the B2 for a week of off piste with UCPA. Didn't care for it too much, althought they were a bit short and trashed. They were 170 ( my stats are very similar to stuarth)and at the end of their second hard season. Liked the 1080 better, but that may be due to the size and condition of the B2. Skied the Head monster 75 in a 177 and it was too long and heavy. It carved really, really nice GS turns, but bumps, hop turns or slalom turns were a lot of hard work.
WTFH, problem is, i would ski almost only off piste, but condition in Europe are not always good enough and i need a guide or a group as i am not experinced enough. So i need a good off piste ski that can do a good job carving on piste if conditions are bad or i have no opportunity to go off piste. Also off piste can often include a narrow icy bumpy trail folowed by crud dotted by boulders.
So carving capabilities, edge hold and even skidding (tight off piste) are important, I guess the question is how good is the PE (or the Karma) at doing it all.
Price is very important. It seems that i can get the PE for a good price (maybe even the Karma). B2 or 1080 would be at least 100 euros more and that would be too much for me right now. Also if my friend gets them for me, i won't be demoing.
Sucks to be a cash strapped grad student.

I got 1080s and S912 Ti 1080 Ski Bindings for £332 on the end of season sale last March.

sugardaddy, I'm thinking the new-school kit will be more affordable in general, things like the Volkl V-Expression, V-Pro, Dogen, Rossi Scratch BC, Dynastar Troublemaker, Elan MO2, all fairly in the same marketing category as PEs with different flex.

Rossignol Bandit B2's or B3's. I ski on last season's B2's and they exactly fit the criteria you're after.

comprex, thanks for the sugestions. the Dogen seems really cheap, but nobody seems to hve skied them (and i don't mind that they are made in China).
The troublemaker seems to have a bit of a "park only" rep?
The Mo2 seems interesting at 118/78/106 a bit more sidecut than the new B2 at 116/78/105 or the Legend 8000 at 116/79/102, but that may be a good thing. Have you skied them? Are they floppy soft? I could ask on TGR but they seem to be after long stiff ultra fats so not sure how to use their input.
Besides i have to see what deals i can get.
I am thinking that going fatter may be a good idea. If i am confined on icy pistes, than i can easily rent decent carving skis, but if it's dumping it's alot harder to find rental fats. The PE at 118/85/104 is not too fat, reasonable sidecut, resonable compromise bending towards the plump side.
BrightonSki, the B2 are decent, but not really stiff enough for busting crud or windblown crust and really didn't think that they were that good at carving (skied them for a week). Really thought the Legend 8000 did everything better (wish i could afford a pair).

sugardaddy, I ski a pair of the MO2s in 175cm for my 92kg they are not remotely anything like floppy soft. Overall flex is very comparable to a Y2K retail GS ski (p40 F1), but the tip and tail are softer, making for vy nice Eastern USA tree ski. Worst part to it is a top limit of about 40kph, I'd say, at least with my floppy boots. Flex is not perfectly round, so trying for rail tracks on groomers isn't easy. The M666 would give you more of that; with the MO2s I can feel the flex-break (stiffening) about 30cm back from the shovel tip and I have to focus on holding the pressure forward at the top of the turn.
The only regret I have with those is that I didn't follow ssh's advice and mount them with Tyrolia or Atomic so I could shift the boot center and experiment with that. Looks were what I had, so that's what they got (I promise the lime green trim had nowt to do with it)
'Round here the Troublemaker has a bit of a feminine all-mountain rep. They -are- soft, but comparable to the old 1080 or abouts.
Dogen: well you've hit upon it- they're trying to sell the magazine-reviewed skis. Even the old V-pro and V-Expression were rare-ish.
It sounds like you're looking in between 77mm and 90mm waist. Let us know how it goes.

Stormriders outclass B2's and M75's and the Salomons.. It will do all you say and more. Happy off-piste in ALL conditions, nimble and manouvarable and can hold a mean turn through ice.
I use it as a an off-piste ski but it belts around on icy stuff on piste as well. There are better specialist skis but I don't know of a better all-rounder.

comprex, thanks. I managed to find your posts on Epic about the MO2. They seem to have more sidecut and a bigger shovel than other twintips, so maybe they weren't ment to be in the park?
JT, i wish i could afford a stockli. I am still in grad school, so price sensitive . I have a friend who can (maybe) get me a good price on the PE or maybe the Karma. It seems that other twintips (TM, MO2) can be had for cheap, hence my query.
Right now i'm waiting for my friend to see what deal he can get me.

The XL's were discounted by about 25%-30% at the end of last season. Do you know someone who could ship them over. You may be surprised what they go for...shop around in europe.

Well - after not very much consideration at all and with my 'impulse buy' hat on I have resolved this issue.
I have bought the 2004/05 Line Assassin MTX Pro @ 176cm. They are being rebranded to Line's Prophet line [sic] so they were remarkably cheap @ £220.
I've taken a much bigger risk with the binding and have opted to give Line's Reactor a go. I've heard a really mixed bag about these: some people love them, others seem to break them! I'll let you all know my verdict later in the year. Chances are I'll be buying a set of Look bindings in resort!
Thanks for all your suggestions. Now I just need to find the time to get the bindings fitted by a certified tech ....

I'm thinking along these lines as well (no pun) but not too sure about the length... I'm used to 170s, but narrower waiste, and not sure whether for the MTX Pro (or MTX) I'd want 166 or 176.
Put it this way, I'm only 166cm (5 ft 7'' in old money) tall and weigh 66kg (10 1/2 stone) myself, but pretty experienced skiier...

flying_squirrel, I wondered about this long and hard too. I've gone with the 176, although I would normally ski a 166. My thinking is along the 'mortgage yourself to the hilt lines', i.e. if you have to sort it out you will.
I'm similar build to yourself (if a little heavier  ) but after a long chat with the guys I bought the skis from I have deceided that if I never try to ski a longer ski then I never will and my ability (or lack thereof) will therefore always be hindered in the deep stuff.
Could be an error, but we will see!
The dimensions are a little wider at the waist than I am used to as well, but I'm hoping that, like the length, this will encourage me to be less lazy and take it to the mountain more rather than going "oh balls, my mates are off to ski that nice easy motorway over there, I may as well do that as well".

I think you bought the last pair of 176s left in the UK - all I can find now are 166 which I'm nervy about, esp as you lose a bit of length at the back for twintip.
I know somewhere selling this years (the prophet 80) for just over 300 quid which is a good pre-order discount.

having said that, I've just found somewhere else that can do 176 + bindings for 330 quid which is proving more than a little tempting. Rossi axial bindings but I no very little about bindings...

comprex, I think Karhu are originally Finnish so, yes, we probably do get them.
However, whether my quads will ever be strong enough even to ATTEMPT tele, is a completely different matter.

zammo, Karhu and Line are done in the same factory in Cowansville, Quebec, a legacy of when Karhu bought the Trak brand. The Jak is also an AT ski, which means that the binding mount area is strong enough to take multiple screw drillings behind the heel of the boot. No need to learn anything, and you don't have to deal with pesky binding inserts.
