Another vote for steep here, I'd love to see that in Imax as it was intended.
I went to see that at the London IMAX, and from memory I'm pretty sure it wasn't in IMAX format, but was spectacular all the same on such a big screen.
I bought it off Amazon a few months back for a fiver, and watched it again just a couple of weeks ago when I saw a bit of snow on the mountain tops outside my living room window

I so wanted to love this film. While the production values are better than any other TGR film, I found the content somewhat flat. When it ended, I just thought "meh." The 20 minutes of outtakes/crash reel were the most entertaining part of the movie.
Perhaps it's a slow grower and will need another viewing. Who am I kidding, I will certainly watch it again because it's a ski film.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Seth Morrison's The Ordinary Skier is now available on iTunes too. Haven't watched it yet but have read that this is a pure biopic documentary.

Zero-G, first full feature of the season and better than TGR's usual stuff, but your right there will be better out there. They are dropping fast now i'm going to download seth's which i have high hopes for so i hope its good.
I'm hoping this could be good as well, but it was supposed to have been released on the 15th and no sign of it yet or maybe i'm looking in the wrong place. http://www.tresbonneequipe.com/

Started watching this tonight, as I said earlier I prefer more of a docu vibe than just action and tunes so loving it - feature length too, top stuff

weeSKI, I love the Sweetgrass films and wish they were available to buy as digital downloads - I have no use for a region 1 dvd. In fact, I don't buy physical dvds any more due to space constraints.
barry, I watched The Ordinary Skier last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! One of the best ski documentaries I've seen - really gets under the skin of real extreme skiing. And, as someone who does almost all of my skiing in Chamonix, it was like watching a love letter to Chamonix and the Cham life. I'm putting this one into my top 5 ski films.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I'll see Nick at Kendal and find out about downloads for ya.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Zero-G, guess you're Chamified to the max then . Great film, gets to my top 5 too

There's a good perfect moment dvd based around the valley that you might like as well

Nope, I was Zero-G before I ever went to Cham.
Most of the new footage in The Ordinary Skier is shot in Cham.
Which Perfect Moment film is that? Strangely, I've walked past their shop so many times but have never been inside.

Mt, is it any good? What's the ratio of proper skiing to jibber/park stuff?
watched the Cham sequences of The Ordinary Skier again last night, just brilliant - worth it for that alone

barry, same here. The danged thing's on a permanent loop in the background while I potter around. Makes it tough to focus on other things when I'm thinking, "Will I ever be able to do that line?" Or even "Would I do that line?"
At the other end of the spectrum, Attack of La Nina was so much fun to watch! I sported a wide, cheesy grin through most of the film. The Roger's Pass segment was amazing - made me want to go out to ski NOW. And Meagre looks incredible. I want. I want. As usual, MSP delivers a fun-filled film. I even watched the park skiing - some kid called Bobby Brown is an acrobat on frikkin' skis. Amazing stuff. And why Sean Petit isn't sponsored to the eyeballs I just don't understand.

I recently watched, The Way I See It, and really liked it. I don't usually go in for this type of snow porn. I didn't find the music as annoying as I do in most of these and I really enjoyed Colby West.

Thanks for these gems. Getting a little old and jaded for ski porn (yeah right). Will certainly try to track down Solitaire and more of Waggoner's films.
Zero-G, Are you saying the Sweetgrass DVDs don't work in the UK? Pity if they don't.
I think it's on TGR's "Light The Wick" that there's some very poignant footage of the Backstroms skiing together to the "Home" soundtrack.

the excellent "Skier's Journey" (see the La Grave segment linked earlier in the thread), is back for another season, the first Ep is a nice little one about a struggling local hill in Canada, but the real fun starts in Ep 2 with a trip to Baffin Island - have seen that place featured in a couple of other pics (Powderwhores IIRC), looks a pretty special trip
good stuff

Robsaan, yup, loved the street sequence, though some of the time lapse stuff elsewhere go a bit on my nerves after a while to be honest, and not all that sure about the slightly preachy messaging, but worth the money for the JP Auclair segment alone - that was just brilliant - the more you wathc it the more you notice - still have no clue how they managed to do the tracking shots as he was going down the hill through the gardens. great stuff
1 - Steep: Brilliant history, characters and skiing.
2 - Signatures: Gorgeous, says a lot about where it's set and a good story
3 - The Art of Flight: Incredible cinematography but not too much story: the new ski porn
4 - G.N.A.R: Silliness, friends having fun and a good story
5 - Claim: Surpassed by the Art of Flight for classy camera work but lots of humour and some brilliant skiing
Also ran:
The Way I see it
Attack of La Nina
All.I.Can is being saved until later in the season but I'll looking forward to it!
Also is there anywhere to see these films on the cinema screen as part of the appeal is the scenic aspects of the shots ? I have been told that the showing of a film at the local Snozone is restricted to an age limit & my 15 yr old is too young to attend as there is a drinks promotion on at the same time
Surely, he must have a fake ID by now?
