I would have thought that the boot design was more restricted by the what it's designed to fit, i.e. the Foot.

Going back to Guvnor's challenge - whatever happened to "soft" ski boots? I always thought there might be some mileage in a softer customisable boot that fit into a relatively standard exoskeleton but I guess they never really worked - presumably transmission issues.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Spyderman, But the foot cannot be changed, and is the primary aspect of any design. The binding is not.

fatbob, along similar lines I've often considered a plastic shoe with no cuff. Instead there would be an elastomer hinge with a pair of ally or carbon fibre tubes running up either side of the leg and a velcro 'power strap' at the top of the shin. It would be nice and tall with lots of control and pretty light too. There'd be little problem with a walk mode aswell. However, it would probably look far too 'orthopaedic' to be a commercial success.
SZK, if it ever gets made then I expect to receive a working sample

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

How about:
front entry
walk mode
canting
adjustable forward angle
adjustable flex
seems a lot to ask for?
Oh...wait...Dachstein used to make those boots but in the name of "progress" we can't get such a boot now...

and Colin laughs at me every time I see him because I am still using mine, until a good alternative comes along

altis, Are you thinking of something like this ?

Very similar lines. I was thinking of using a conventional binding and attaching the arms to the boot. You could change the flex by using different elastomers - summat like the Interflex system:

altis, It's been a concept for a long time, I am looking at rubbers, elastomers at the moment with good thermo dynamic results, temperature and exposure to elements is a big stumbling block, but believe me when i say everything is possible, it's just wether you'd pay for it at the costs.

Boots that have a remote control in my pocket - loosen off when I get into the lift queue, tighten up a bit for the cruising around fun runs, and tighten up a lot for the hardcore steep stuff.
|
I'd pay up to an extra £100 for that.
