Arno, Your suggestion to hire a car from the swiss side, I found that it costs more on the swiss side (from the same hire company)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Chris Reed, I don't know, I haven't been to any other ski resorts except Borovets in Bulgaria.

mike.healy, that's usually because the Swiss vehicles carry the Swiss motorway toll sticker, a vignette. The French hire cars do not, so if you cross to Switerland and want to drive on their motorways, you have to buy one at the border for CHF40.

Chris Reed, I think he means La Grave. Not really a resort though! Totally off piste but truly magnificent. You can ski it from this side too.
BTW I've been in Qs in LG during Feb ½ term - just like everywhere else!

easiski, of he's talking about La Grave he probably hasn't been in a while! My experience - pretty quiet in January; half hour queues in early March. And there hadn't been fresh snow for several weeks.

easiski, the times I've been there, mid-station hasn't been too bad. Maybe the conclusion is that (consistent with La Grave generally) the lift is a bit unpredictable. But that's why we love it
