Good,
Aldi soft shell jacket and trousers, coped perfectly will all the spills a rapidly improving intermediate pushing a bit too hard at times gave them while keeping me nice and warm and perfectly dry, can't be beat at about £25 the set!
Rossignol Tribe jacket, TK Maxx special under £40, for the days when it was a bit too cold for the soft shell
Aldi merino thermals, did just the job I needed and the fabric felt rather nicer than the Icebreaker stuff I looked at in Ellis Brigham!
Conform'able custom footbeds, no pain or discomfort at all from my ski boots fitted with these!
Bad,
Trespass Fugitize double ski bag, packed with mine and my 10 year old daughters skis and a few clothes for padding and the end ripped while being carried about 30m from front door to car! On its way back to Amazon for a refund now!

Agree with the Level gloves, another product that's supposedly Gore-Tex, but they're neither waterproof or breathable.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

bad, smartwool socks. they don't hold their shape so are useless in a boot. stupid idea to use wool for a fitted sock.

How strange, my Level gloves are the best I've ever had, I think, they certainly seem to be lasting the longest. I never hold my skis by their edges, though - if vertical, I carry/hold them by the bindings.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Good gear: leather winter gardening gloves - cheap, warm, cheap, durable and cheap*
Bad gear: expensive gloves (unless they've got built in knuckle/wrist pads)
*haven't actually tried any yet, but I've now been recommended them by a few people

GOOD- Dainese Valdez Jacket- Bomb-proof, superb kit.
CRAP- Dainese Techno Worldcup gloves. £110, thumb stitching wore through after three days. Motorcycle gloves sold as ski gloves.
STUNNING- Arcteryx Sidewinder SV jacket. More impressed the more I wear it. Faultless.
VERY GOOD. Reusch Leather/Goretex gloves. Reusch make gloves end of.
GOOD- 686, Amazing attention to detail.

Good - Level Radiators, three seasons old and still the warmest and most breathable I've ever worn.
Awesome - Full Tilt Morrisons, worth every penny after CEM breathed some TLC on them before Winter!
Bad - POW gloves, ZERO breathability/waterproof after about a week!
CRAP - Salomon Suspect or Scott Punnisher, couldn't make up my mind on the worst ski I've ever clicked into...

I've got both those too. I agree the Dainese Valdez Jacket is truly bombproof. Had mine since 2006 and skied hundreds of days in it. Looks like new after a wash. Also got those Dainese gloves too, but the thumb stitching on mine is also bombroof so maybe something changed? Mine are 2006 vintage. The leather on them is so tough it wears through my ski pole grips.
Also mega-kit:-
Hestra mits
Marmot Proshell jacket
TNF Primaloft insulating jacket - more comfortable and warmer than a fleece
Icebreaker base layers / mid layers - mine have lasted for years and no sign of any holes. Also very comfortable.
Smartwool socks
Thermic boot dryer - pong free boots for a lifetime
Spy Goggles - cheaper than Oakley and just as good quality
Crap
Icebreaker inner gloves - they simply fall apart the first time you wear them

Awesome: Nookie charcoal fleece. OK, it's a kayaking thermal, but it's excellent for skiing too - toastier than freshly toasted toast, and comfortable as a hug from a koala bear.

PinoP, my Icebreaker socks are excellent. Made from Merino wood (plus other fabrics) and I would assume Smartwool is also merino.

Very good:
Zimtstern insulated jacket
Bergaus Windstopper fleece
Icebreaker socks (skiing and walking)
Burton AK Clutch gloves - very warm and extremely waterproof
Oakley goggles - stunning optics, excellent warranty & easy to get replacement lenses that are cheap
Liberty skis
High Society snowboards
Vist bindings
Crap:
Saloman backpacks - the stitching on the shoulder straps fail every time you crash
Those neoprene face masks - nose bit means you breath into your goggles and steam them up

this thread needs the top gear cool wall.
Uncoolest: Spyder
also very uncool: Dakine
Subzero: any bona fide climbing brand (ie not Arkterryex et al), the more battered the colder
Marmot is heating up - do they offload their seconds in TackyMax one wonders?

You know it makes sense.

Worth every penny:
Intuition heat-molded boot liners. Total 48 days skiied during Jan/Feb in Canada with these, and NEVER had cold feet
