No time announced for the second leg tomorrow (yet). Hopefully won't be the short course though.
For the first time we were asked to lower the flag - some jobsworth has decided to enforce the offical policy on flagstick lengths (60cm). So the fishing rod was duly shortened. B*stards

The Alpine Skiing has been first rate with some tough courses and some excellent action - the main problem was the political? decision to hold "freestyle" events at Cypress which is basically at sea level and just cops rain. Whistler was always going to get wet snow and fog during a fortnight's schedule.

Dwarf Vader, is that for real? No complete re-run? I'm surprised by that decision.
I would have thought the USA would be pressuring hard to get the whole thing re-run to give Vonn a 2nd chance. Although maybe her injuries coming into these Games were more influential then she was letting on. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for her here.
Interesting situation. I hope Hölzl gets a good run as she has been very consistent this season so far. Her bib number worked against her in the first run, going at number 1 she only had the tracks of the fore-runners to follow!

Samerberg Sue the Austrians can breathe a sigh of relief that it won´t be a total re-run, they have 3 in the first 4

DAB, but only the men doing well will satisfy the Austrian press (Graham Bell even alluded to this aspect of Austrian psyche last night). So, it's back to the cellar for the girls, win, lose or draw.

The USA would have been more bothered about getting a better first run for Mancuso, she got yellow flagged when Vonn crashed so had to go again later in the field. Vonn has broken a finger anyway.

Bwin's current odds
Quote: |
Elisabeth Görgl (AUT) 3.50
Taina Barioz (FRA) 7.75
Kathrin Zettel (AUT) 2.70
Eva-Maria Brem (AUT) 13.00
Tina Maze (SLO) 7.00
Viktoria Rebensburg (GER) 13.00
Maria Riesch (GER) 13.00
Manuela Mölgg (ITA) 51.00
Tessa Worley (FRA) 67.00
Kathrin Hölzl (GER) 21.00
Fabienne Suter (SUI) 101.00
Anja Pärson (SWE) 81.00
Tanja Poutiainen (FIN) 81.00
Julia Mancuso (USA) 67.00
|
So they are predicting
Kathrin Zettel (AUT) Gold
Elisabeth Görgl (AUT) Silver
Tina Maze (SLO) Bronze

as much as i love watching zettel ski i think with a high bib number and soft conditions she wont make it all the way...

Surely Mancuso getting yellow flagged will have made her re-run the first leg on half prepared skis?

If anyone likes it or not, USA is not factor in skiing, so no matter what they would like, FIS won't give much credit to this. Austria and Swiss are nations with influence. So if it would be about Austrian or Swiss girls, they might consider doing 2 runs, but if it's Americans, noone really cares... even if they have Vonn, Miller and Ligety.
My pick? Zettel, Maze and Poutiainen... but I'm not good in doing this so...

They are allowed 2 sets of ski's per race, Now I don't know if the rules state a rerun has to be on the same ski's. If not I would think she would just get on to her second set, also there was a bit of time between getting up the hill and been slotted into the start order so her ski tech would have been working on them.

Bode Swiller, Austrian press have been surprisingly supportive of the athletes, its the trainers who have been getting it in the neck. As I said before, major shake-ups in the ÖSV will result.

Dwarf Vader, There are actually no restrictions at all to the number of skis that a racer can have at the start. She probably would have had a number of sets at the top of different flex, waxes and even edge angles depending on the snow conditions and course set.
She was still very unlucky to be yellow flagged in a GS, I have never seen it before in a technical race in 10 years of watching virtually every WC & Olympics.

Dwarf Vader, I'm listening to German radio as I work and it seems that the 2nd run is in doubt due to the weather still. If it is cancelled they are saying it will not be re-run at any time due to lack of time. Any indicators as to what is going on over there or not? You seem to be remarkably up to the minute with your reports.
The web cams were looking kind of misty wet and snowy when I flicked through a while back and not much action around on any of them. Pretty miserable weather to be honest, when compared with the sunshine and blue skies I enjoyed earlier today over here. Drank my mid-morning coffee out on the balcony in the sunshine. Too warm for the snow though here in my village (800m) - it is rapidly melting at the moment. Snow forecast for next week though.

yes, I'd rather her see her dicing with disaster on the ragged edge of control... like she used to. I like the way Sarah Schlepper screams at the course from the start gate. Chem should let it all hang out a bit more like that.

Dwarf Vader, thanks for posting the result - was looking for it on Eurosport. Watched bits of the cross country instead. Not thinking about the cold turkey next week though. A good replacement is cycling IMO. All those little men in lycra...

Someone yesterday described Chemmy Alcott's belief as not being up with her technique. Son then compared me to Chemmy
|
|
|
|
|
|
Helen Beaumont, Yes I heard that as well. I did not quite understand it, did the commentator mean that she could ski harder than she is because her technique is so good?
Surely she is skiing as hard as she can - I cannot see anyone in international competition not giving 100%?
