I spoke to him briefly at one of the Val d'Isere downhills. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and was happy to talk to people on training day. He's been very good for ski racing, IMO, brought a lot of personality to a sport which too often is personality free. But like anyone with a lot of personality he does provide a bit of a marmite test.

I loved the moment when Claire Balding was talking about the great slo-mo footage, at that time featuring a close up of ski boots. She said "just imagine how tight those boots are". All four clips on the boots were undone. Priceless.
