Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

cockerhoop - we went with Peak retreats who mainly offer self drive or accommodation only - booked the appartment through them and lift passes. Would recommend them. Booked ski school and travel independently. We went by train to Oulx, 20 mins from resort, which was good fun although rather exhausting carrying 9 pieces of luggage between trains!

A bloke i chatted with a few time James (was with wife Bekki and and samll boy Will and girl Florence) was interested in doing it himself another time as it would save a packet, but for just myself and daughter the package tours are best option even with under occupancy charge. Can't get non skier wife to come, even with promise of spa and shopping!!!!!

looks like seasons over website shows no lift open at Montgenevre now and webcams confirm this, still plenty of snow though, Golfer's in the village will be wishing it to melt pretty quick so they can get the greens prepared!!!! Shocked

had a great days riding today at monty, piste were superb (bus certain ones were a bit poor towards the end of the day but were good at the begining) off piste very good high up but low down was frozen crud, not nice. Broke my fix in the morning went to Snowbox to see if he could help me, the owner has to be the rudest person i have ever met in a ski shop. I have to be honest if you want good friendly service use the shop next to it, run by italians who couldn't have done more or be more polite.

snowbox, dont be rude to folk who post on forum's, now everyone knows not to go to you cos your tooo rude Razz

i have one photo which i'll post a bit later for you all!

hi posted a trip report a few days ago now - we were there for the new year

Ski conditions very good, the oly real closed pisted problem was on the long road down to sestriere, so suggest the lift as the road closed for bottom third.
Claviere ski conditions good, all runs open bar the one shut for the slalom scool, all lifts seemed fine apart from the dodgy on on the other side of the main road ( looks like it goes off otwards montegenevre, but ther is just a closed black and a should be closed very dodgy blue ( that requires some skiing skill to get down as it was in most plases onlt about 7 foot wide and covered in rocks.

link down from claviere to montegenere ( skiing) was good, up the shair in front of ski scool, and down the black or red ( blask steep but good skiing) , red basically as steep but a bit wider.

you can pole bac along the cross country route just below the road, and its not too bad a pole either

all runs in france good, with plenty of snow. we managed to find a good placeto eat on french side that was not too bad at the top of the broussets( think thats the name) , folow the green along the top and then off to the small bowl where about 3-4 chairs / lifts meet, the eating place there was good ok prices, and nicely cooked ( sorry cannot remember the name)

in claviere there was good cheeap toasties in the bar up the smalls steps opposite the slalom sport shop on the high street

we had a great time and I am keen to get booked for 20120

The Sauze area had a good dump on Friday and a massive one last night and today (30th Jan), so skiing conditions are near perfect at the moment.

If your near sansicario on friday and saturday come and have a look at Urbantrash.fr in action at the moto glise show.

Weather ans Snow Update 2nd Feb 2011

It snowed from Thursday night last week through to Monday night. An easterly blowing in from Italy. As a result From Bardonecchia through the Mily Way to Montgenevre the snow conditions are fantastic. Snow did not reach Serre Chevalier, but has covered the whole of the Milky Way, creating the best conditions since mid-December.

Tuesday and Wednesday Sunny but cold.

Long range forecast is for sunshine.

Deep powder, getting heavy but not over skied. Runs are in excellent condition although some of the blacks in the Rocher Rouge sector are a bit wind blown (better to ski down beside the piste).

On Tuesday 1st Feb I was able to ski all the way down to Cesana (1350m) and across the bridge.

Apologies Snowangel,

I was in Serre Chevalier on Thursday and can confirm that you have some good snow above the midway stations. The pistes were in better condition than I had been told and we had a cracking day's ski.

Snow Report 2nd March 2011 for Montgenevre

Fresh snow again yesterday, a good 20cm!

We also had a fabulous dump of snow on the 14th and 15th of February.
Anything snowed out by the half-termers is back.

Daytime temperatures are still quite warm but nights are cold.

Am in Sauze at mo (8/3/11). Pistes are fab. Some slush low down, but everything above 2000m is very nice. (sorry don't know a technical term for very nice). Of piste is well trammelled, lumpy and with a thin crust. Low cloud in morning up to about 1800 m. This burned off at about 12:30. Gorgeous blue sky's for most of this afternoon.

Sestriere today (9/3/11). Glorious. Stayed mostly on pistes. All in good condition. Resort not busy. Off piste as per Sauze yesterday, tramped all over and getting more crusty in the sun.

Snow report 20th March 2011 for Montgenevre

It snowed for 5 days from Saturday 12th March until Thursday Morning 17th. Another good foot of snow.

Great conditions on slopes, some of the best of the season. Off-piste is very heavy and avalanche risk is high. More snow than ever this season and apparently enough to see us through until 1st May.

I recently went on a trip to Serre Chevalier organised by Erna Low which was excellent. The snow at the top is in great condition particularly on the Monetier side of the mountain. We also tried out the Grands Bains which was a fun set up with various naturally heated pools, hammams etc

Serre Chevalier seems like an excellent resort and with the investment they have had from the Compagnie des Alpes no doubt it will only get better

Went to Montgenevre Saturday, glorious sunny day. Had some good conditions in the morning but turned very slushy by midday. Very impressed on my first visit.

Today went to Sestriere, cloudy day but snow seemed in better condition with no slush at all. It was a bit icy in places but mostly very good. At about 2pm it started to snow, turning heavy by the time I left. Really nice conditions but visibility got bad, so left early. I imagine once it clears it will be great.

Snow was falling to about 1700m, but below it was raining.

in montgenevre right now. its spring and its warm and slushy. but it not a disaster and is better than some of the northern resorts from what i here. links to italy closed... not though lack of snow but though lack of willingness to work by the italians...such a shame as perfectly skiable. although they are opening just for the weekend. its pretty heavy going at resort level by the end of the day but ok if you stay high

Anybody been to Sauze in last week? Just wondering how it's holding up with lack of snowfall and warm temps. Even more lack of snow forecast and warmer temps next week too. Off there at the end of the month for 1st time. Typically, the usual resorts we go to have had massive dumps of snow rolling eyes

Well, I can safely say that there was plenty of snow, especially with the extra deposited over the weekend we turned up Cool

Some great skiing for someone of my intermediate skills, although a bit on the nippy side. However, only managed to ski 4 days due to a dose of food poisoning sticking me in bed for last 2 days and which is still rumbling on 4 days later, in a quite literal sense if you get what I mean Sad

Always next year I suppose.....unless the lottery numbers crop up in the meantime Very Happy

Just back on Sunday we had three days of snow last week and the pistes are great. Very cold temps though, -20 most mornings but I think its due to get warmer again. Best skiing for us was down towards San Sicario. Excellent pistes and very very empty. Even on the Saturday when all the locals arived from Turin we found quiet pistes. It may just be me but the majority didnt ski and just paraded past each other in coffee shops looking at each others Gucci ski wear Laughing
