Every night is a Saturday Night in a Ski resort. There's a fight going on outside my very window as we speak. One kicked off in the Bar last night. Needless to say, as i live opposite Cham's principal niteclub i'll be kept awake until around 4am. Maybe of interest to know, most of the screaming and yelling tends to be in English. |
english is the universal language of the scrap..

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I've listened to a few loud and prolonged altercations in French at around 3am outside our hotel in Megève. They would have been so much the better in English; coming to blows in two minutes, rather than depriving me of an hour's sleep.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I think this night club brawling is a very English male 18-30 thing. Cant belive the agression shown by SOME NOT ALL Brits when they are abroad especially with a few beers on them.
No matter how much beer I have had I would never think it a good idea to plant someone with a bottle. Should the punishment for this be an eye for an eye due to the lifelong nature of the unjuries

Used to be aggressive Swedes at St Anton late at night in the old days. Perhaps things have changed.

For what it's worth, in 7 years of living in Berlin, the only drunken fights I've seen in the streets have involved Brits over for the weekend.
Thank you Ryan Air. Thank you Easy Jet. Thank you Brits who a) drink 4 pints an hour, b) can't hold your liquer and c) treat a foriegn country as though it belongs to you.
I can't wait for the Germany-England match in November. Maybe an excuse to get out of town and get some early season skiing in.

ami in berlin, Those of us with long memories will recall that the Germans are also capable of starting a fight...

Your other points were well made, but there's a bit of history to this last one.

laundryman, yes, I recall a similar thing in Tignes, lots of noise and loads of mates, pushy, pushy, a few slaps, the lad slips to the floor, and I think here we go, a good shoeing, and he is allowed to get back up and argue for another 15 minutes, all at 5 am.

red 27, tut tut.
ami in berlin, sorry to see that. One of the reasons Mrs a and I have liked going to Germany over the years is that it hasn't been frequented by unsavoury Brits. Looks like times have changed.
I remember going to Deutsche Eck in Koblenz to watch the Rhine in Flames some years ago. Lots of beer (and bratwurst with chips and mayonnaise - mmmm!) and a huge crowd. Only once saw a hint of trouble - a slight ripple in the crowd, as it were. Suddenly the police appeared from nowhere, the miscreant was bundled away, and harmony and good will was restored . Mrs a and I felt very safe, and in convivial company.

That's the way to do it; a slight ripple in the normally placid and uniform surface, an instant uniformed presence, normality is restored and those who are supposed to, feel secure. Mind you, they've had a good deal of practice at that sort of thing in Germany.
