Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ultimate Avalanche Backpack - what to put in there

I can't believe someone hasn't said this but: a knife -incredibly useful tool especially if you end up in the backcountry in the woods. (preferably a higher quality one such as Gerber though Opinel do some fine blades somewhat cheaper)! and a proper fire starter - ie a fire stick that is composed of a number of different metals including magnesium that always guarantee a hot shower of sparks. Combined with that make some fireballs by taking cotton wool at home and then mixing in some vaseline (sp) this is perfect for fire starting as it takes easily and burns for a good while!

I used my multitool last year after my budies skiied away while I was hanging upside down in a snowwell with a ski hooked by a shrub. An item not mentiioned is a partial roll of toilet paper. It can start fires, staunch bleeding parts, and of course the obvious.

Spare batteries for the radio and the transciever, I have a ortovox it turns on by strapping it to yourself.

Duct tape is rolled onto my shovel handle and on my poles, most used item, fixes clothes torn, tapes on climbing skins that aren't sticking, and of course repairs gloves, it also works as a blister cover.

The general rule for mountaineers is to not go out until the day after the weather has cleared.

Is there any hope of us being as responsible as mountaineer friends, ever? Confused

T Bar, brands oh forgive my ignorance, but I did drop 1000' of OFF-PISTE snow today. Besides the 16" of heavy snow the resort had, and yes we were bad, left the transcievers in the vehicle and then wished we had them on. Embarassed
