fatbob, I was wondering about using an old pair of Xscreams that I have. They may be a bit long though at 187cms. They have a flat mounting surface so tele bindings should fit. Any views on ski length for tele v alpine (I am now on 165cm slalom skis for this)

My old tele skis (bought 2nd hand) are longer than my current alpine but they are also skinnier - I should have got shorter in the first place I think. Extra length certainly doesn't help to start with or indoors/dryslope. But on the other hand you're unlikely to be nailing mogul radius turns in the short term.
Lots of Scarpa tele & AT boots on sale at EB MK including bargain price Bumblebee T1s.

Yep, I'm in. IIRC I was on size 9s last time around, which seemed to work OK. I'll keep Nick W company in not having any of my own gear - except the beard of course (I take it the rest of you will be renting yours).
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

GrahamN, At the very least, I think they should all rent beards
Just need to hear from Spyderman and we have the same team together unless a few others wish to join in?
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Guys, I have now had confirmation from the same suspects as attended first time around so there is five of us again for the lesson.
I have confirmed this back to Richard so we should be ok for 12.30 on saturday 1 September. I suggest we meet in the cafe out front as we did before.
You know it makes sense.

Gidday Guys,
I've had a couple of e-mails over the last couple of days asking if telemark bindings can be fitted to VIST speedlock plates so thought I'd answer here for all.
Yes they can and it takes seconds to switch alpine bindings over to tele.
VIST produce an interface that we recommend with the Speedlock TT, pro light or super pro light plate. The interface is a front and rear plate that locks directly into the speedlock plate and your tele bindings mount to the interface.
The interface comes in 3 options. Pre drilled for G3 or Rotefella bindings or blank to be drilled for most other tele bindings.
It means like the alpine bindings you can move the possition forward or back within seconds or take 1 pair of skis and swap between alpine or tele set ups in also seconds.
The interfaces can be seen here.

kiwi1,
Nice idea - so what is the minimum weight/rise I can get away with with a speedlock plate & tele adapter? Cost? Presumably you hard fix the tele bindings to the tele plate even if you've got G3s or is it an insert system that you can screw into and out of at will (like a snowboard mount).
Do old Nordica adjustable binders which are the VIST design fit speedlocks?

Update on the VIST Speedlock Telemark interface. VIST has confirmed that the interface plate is 5mm thick & weighs 200g.

I decided to go (with my tele gear) to Tamworth Snowdome this morning for a 2 hour practice session. When I got there I was surprised to see quite a few other telemarkers there . Turns out there has been a Telemark Festival there yesterday and today (apparently there had been some info on the Snowsport England website (but's that one site I don't visit). So I joined in with the group, with instruction from a very friendly guy called Matt Higginson. It was great to see about a dozen free-heelers on the slope - we almost outnumbered the boarders!
Talking to Matt, he said that Richard had been there yesterday.
I happened to have my video camera with me, and took a few minutes' footage, which I will post here on snowMedia later today (and also send to Matt for his site http://www.telemark-skiing.co.uk/ )
A great day out!

Have just uploaded video clip of Tamworth Telemarkers in snowMedia Zone
Recognise a few people from similar events Richard has put on at MK - the guy in the parka, can't remember his name, ex amy/marine IIRC skis a really nice aggressive style.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

For those of you that don't have boots - I was at MK on Sat, EB have several pairs of T1, T2 and T3s in sizes for 8 to 10/11. All new - but from 2/3 years ago. Good prices (T1 = £125) too.

I was thinking how luxuriously wide open the slope appeared (having only ever been to MK) with no pylons in the middle/ kids tobagganing and rails and kickers all over the show. I think the camera foreshortening may have indicated some near collissions that it reality were nothing of the sort.

Yes, particularly for the shots of the top of the slope the camcorder was on maximum telephoto setting, so there will be a fair degree of foreshortening. I didn't have to edit out any collisions, honestly

who is in for the 1st at 12:30? Suggest we meet in the Lodge (lower floor) inside this time instead of the outside coffee bar...
I understand that a few complete novices will be joining us more experienced veteran free heelers for an early session.
I will bring my video camera if anyone wants to see how they are getting on.

skimottaret, We have confirmation from Richard for 1st at 12.30 for the same crew as last time. You, me, GrahamN, madmonk and spyderman. Richard wanted to "move us on" which sounds ominous.
So the two others, PhilipStanton and Mrs PS are doing a lesson at 10.00 and then will laugh at us afterwards.
Not sure of the composition of the crowd of well wishers.
You may need to explain the suggested meeting point (it is lost on me) but I should think as a group we should find each other reasonably easily.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Nick W, meeting point is past reception desk, it is the coffee bar/ lounge at the end of the slope. it has been recently remodelled and is quite comfortable.....
we can laugh at the newbies first then gear up...

Well guys, how do you feel after that
I must be getting old because I needed a long nap when I got back (should never have gone for a run in the morning ). Today my upper left thigh and right shoulder feel like thay have been thoroughly bashed about, which of course they have been.
Good fun though; roll on October for session three.

I had a real blast, although suffered on Sunday. Legs like jelly! Can't wait for the next lesson. I've been looking at how much it would cost to buy some kit for the forthcoming season, so I guess I've been hooked...
Not too bad actually. Nearly fell asleep on the M25 on the way home, though, and possibly then spending the evening standing up in the RAH arena was not the ideal recovery strategy . Amazing how going into a tele for a simple exercise like that falling leaf turns it into a real killer, isn't it!The way I felt at the end of it I doubted I'd be able to walk yesterday, but felt generally OK - although to be fair then did s*d all all day, and decided to skip another Prom and sit in front of the goggle-box instead!
I found it really interesting that I felt way more secure on those free-heel contraptions at the start of yesterday even that at the end of the previous session. Must have been some consolidation of muscle memory during the intervening months.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

definately been hooked by the sound of it
A couple of options for next session date. The 29th of sept is a demo day at MK so we could kill two birds... or alternatively Mid oct as previously discussed.
I've just spoken to Richard and he's going to send me a list of dates through to Christmas that he can do - right through to Christmas.
He's happy to run a session for just 1 and has said no more than 4 per session (please) because of the amount of kit he's got to carry. He's happy to run more than one session if we have more than 4.
He is, frankly, an absolute diamond.
My quads still aren't talking to me.

skimottaret, any of those dates are OK for me, and I've also sent some dates to PhillipStanton to coordinate. I'm happy to fit in with whatever arrangement is made.

PhillipStanton, Great initiative...
could you post the dates on this thread and we can keep this thread going as the main MK Tele lesson "notice board".
Nick W, had done the organising on the last session for our group and i volunteered to take the helm for setting up the next one. Now that we have more than 4 potential "regulars" going perhaps we can expand this into a small MK tele club and get more and more 's involved.
Perhaps we could try we try to get a monthly or bi-monthly slot on saturdays set up. It would be great to have as many going so that we can start to "stream" the groups should people miss a few dates. Obviously down to richard and his time committments but the more the merrier AFAIC...

Exactly what Richard had in mind I think. He mentioned that he could probably commit one Saturday every other week and possibly a weekday every other week as well.
