This thread is enough to keep me out of austria for life.
I always seem to end up somewhere playing Talking Heads "Once in a Lifetime" I don't know what it is about that tune, but at least I like it.

Good stay in France

The Austrian/ Euro-pop drivel is like holiday drinks. The drinks taste fine when you're by the beach or on the slopes eg Jagermeister, Ouzo, tequila, schnapps, chartreuse, random liquors etc (excuse dodgy spellings) but are undrinkable and sit in the cupboard for eternity when you get home.
Similarly, the music is good fun when you've done a hard day's skiing and have a belly full of Weiss bier but you don't want to be listening to it in the car or playing it at a dinner party.
I have to say it's good entertainment seeing how the Austrians, Germans, Dutch, Scandis etc apres. Surely even they can only stomach the music when they're half cut though?
fatirishman, The best, however you need to have
Per Spoor, (kedang Kedang)
Hey Amigo Charlie Brown
Is this the way to Amarillo
rotes Gummiboot
I am what I am
Pronto Guisseppe
Das Rote Pferd
Neun und neunzig luftballon (Auf Deutsch)
I am becoming nostalgic for the truly good cheese that you get in Austrian resorts!!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Last time I played that out it resulted in a 50 man conga. I thought I'd erased that from memory.

Ski Tyke, yeah the German/ Austrian apres ski musik ('Ballermann' music, named after one of the beach bars at Platja de Palma) isn't meant to be taken too seriously and is played at parties, the Cologne 'Karnival', beer festivals, and of course in the huge beergardens in Mallorca. Anyone missing it after the ski season is over should try eg the Bierkonig or Mega Park in Mallorca - which are like massive versions of the Mooserwirt or Trofana Alm in Ischgl. I wonder how the Dutch chain Frosty mentions would go down in the UK? Pretty well I think!
Ich bin ein Doener (Tim Toupet) will ring in your ears this winter too!

I remember when I was last in Soll that we were constantly bombarded by a German language Euro beat take on 'Don't Eat The Yellow Snow'. Austrian's are definitely Beazer Homes League when it comes to contribution to rock - Falco excepted of course.

Kruder & Dorfmeister are also Austrian so all hope is not lost

Blimey! I see the youtube reviews aren't exactly complimentary!
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Can't remember when but I think it was 2006 at the Moosevirt in St Anton, the only tunes I can remember (it got messy) are the Hermes House Band with "Country Roads" and the DJ Otzi duet with "Live is life".
Been humming them both for years (long may it continue..... lol )
Si.

Good grief! Excuse my comments, but all so far offered is ghastly disposable syntho-pop: music by numbers.
Exciting maybe (Scooter), but most just plain silly
No power, no emotion, no way to really cunjure up the majesty of the mountains.
Jonpim, Enjoy the holiday spirit! The memories of the the masses!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Roy Hockley, Here here! AndJonpim, probably agree that in the cold light of day, the music is naff, but my God it is fantastic after a few beers at the Mooserwirt and brings back soooo many happy memories

boabski, I love euro cheese!!!! Cant stand Fromage!!! Bear in mind however that for some apres ski is a vin chaud and people watching! Dont do it myself as I prefer to be having more lively fun, but wont give out about them as no doubt in years to come I may turn in to one
After all it is free

I'm with stab on this, apres music is like nails on a blackboard.
Having said that I had to stay a bit longer in that tent thing above Verbier town last year, as the DJ was having a Geen Day/Offspring pop punk hour which was worth a listen and sing along.

Mosha Marc, exactly . . . in Verbier ! ! ! when in Austria it has to be the stuff listed above, I don't know why, it just does. I would happily listen to your choices but not during Austrian Apres

I've been on a few trips to Austria, including a two week stint in Ischgl, it just melts yer brain.

Austrian Apres has to be cheese. Songs that you'd never listen to anywhere else.

I've just realised. It's like being at massive wedding when all the Aunts and Uncles jump up to dance to a song that was bad in the '70's and they're all trying that bit too hard, it's just not right.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Mosha Marc, noooo, it lifts your spirits, and actually for me, it was the essence of my first skiing holiday those tunes just made such an impact on me, and I fell 'in love' with Austria. One of the ski Instructors used to go down the piste with his snake of 10 kids and they'd all be singing 'Hey Baby' . Off to St Anton in Jan and I can't wait !
You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
when I used to have a place going mental to that nonsense music I'd drop petula clark's downtown in, it used to look like the karaoke scene in twin town.
My typical day was,
1-2pm - easy music, chart crap, rnb etc.
2-3pm - Get the mashups out, start throwing a few curve balls in there, have a green day/blur woohooo/acdc GnR rock mosh out. Play the fatboy slim mix of the rolling stones's satisfaction because it's 9 minutes long giving me time for a smoke and toilet break, plus people like going Wooo WOoo. The last season I did it was the year outkast's hey ya was out, I used to play a mash up of that and queen's we will rock you, from that point onwards they were mine for the taking.
4-5pm - All the above crap mentioned in this thread, leave the bar like a god, board home, eat then back out to play at a club til 4am.
I did that 6 days a week, never again. Some days was a good 10 hours total playing music.
edit: I still have all that music, if I ever feel the urge to abuse myself I'll make a mix if it all, dont hold your breath though.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

This tune has been going round in my head for ages - heard it lots in Austria nd Switzerland but have never been able to track it down before now. Didn't realise it was such an oldie.
Stab - definitely one for the Snowheads Ballermann Hits 2009 when you make it Stab

Roy Hockley, Not only can you dance like a Eurodiddy on the bench/table, you can then use them to cart yourself back down to St Anton if you can't ski, and if you're lucky wipe out a couple of boarders (only kidding boarders). Check out my youngest at the Mooserwirt earlier this year http://uk.youtube.com/v/oH_tTiI_KYI
