kermit, No its not. Its thoughtless. I had my one day off a week ruined by selfish lazy guests who took my skis, so i missed out on trips away and had to spend my ONE day off skulking around indoors with no one to play with.

Nadenoodlee, no-one in their right mind keeps their gear in public skirooms along with the punters' kit, precisely because they are always leaving the door open/taking the wrong stuff/etc. Your own fault, really.

Someone stole my hired poles on my last day one year, i had to take the only pair left - which obviuosly werent the ones I hired back to the shop. Luckily I wasnt charged extra as i dont think they even noticed !

Nadenoodlee, Well, if I need shooting then judging by the tales on here I'm not the only one! I wonder if Klammer realises that he's for the high jump if you ever bump into him too.
I can't say that all folk would be the same, but my switch was purely accidental, I was moritfied and I apologised. In addition if I my 'thoughtlessness' had caused someone any degree of financial loss I would have also coughed up the loss.
Can you honestly say that in all respects your own life has always been blameless and that you've never made an error (in all aspects not just skiing). I try to make as few as possible and feel quite dreadful if I know I've upset someone else in any way, shape or form.
Despite your harsh approach I am genuinely sorry you had your day off ruined, but judging by some of the ideas on here there are things that you could do to minimise the event of such a thing happening if it means that much to you - from what I've heard here it isn't such an uncommon event and if your ski's are that precious maybe you should have already been taking precautions as Lizzard, points out.

Megamum, Mistakes happen and its how you (or companies) recover from them which is how they are judged. You did what you could to resolve it quickly and are obvioulsy upset by it. In my book you passed

Megamum, It wasn't accidental at all, by your own admission it was a dark room, you had sunglasses on and you didn't turn the light on.
Had the skis been the same make then yes it's a mistake that can be made, but they weren't even the same colour.

I can honestly say in all my years skiing ive NEVER taken anyone elses things by accident. I always try to spot the people with the best gear, follow them to lunch and snaffle their gear the moment they go in the bar.

i must admit that if someone took my skis from a boot room and skied on them "by accident" i would be pretty peeved. if they were the same ski, same length i might understand but not if they looked different in any way. i just can't see how someone would make that mistake unless they really weren't paying attention. strikes me that this would only happen if you were using hire skis or are so rich and over ski supplied that you don't care about your kit.
