Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Me too. It's up to Megamum and saying where she was could even cloud her report i.e. people commenting "If only you had gone to …..". etc. It would be another matter if there was any specific praise/criticism of the resort itself but as Megamum said
Quote:
I intended it to describe our learning progress and the sorts of conditions that we skied in, what we found difficult and what we found easy

Look...she went to La Rosiere.
Bad snow, but even so:
Fully booked and turning customers away. Obviously DavidTraxx did a flippin good job!
The Swiss love it. DavidTraxx did a VERY good job.

Let Megamum live in her delusionary state...let her carry on thinking that we don't all know the secret that is La Rosiere.
Let her bask in the smug knowledge that she can get accomodation in La Rosiere while the rest of us have to put up with the secondary resorts of the world.

And if by some slight chance it is not La Rosiere...at least now Magamum will know where she should go next time!

Bad Ragaz Elm Oberiberg - Ybrig
Beckenried Flumserberg Sattel-Hochstuckli
Einsiedeln Grüsch

Unknown Swiss resorts are fab Cool

You can therefore only imagine how delighted I was to see a big spread in the feckin Mail on Sunday or some such pish on some ex-holiday presenting nonentity taking up residence in mine rolling eyes

Megamum, shame the conditions were not better, you had a similar experience to us at christmas, the slopes were very icy and I completely lost 'my bottle' a couple of times, but willed myself on and I think improved, we have a weekend in LDA next week without kids! so I can concentrate on getting me down without worrying about the kids (even though they are far more capable and confident than me)!
I don't think you need to apologise for the controversy, you can't please all the people all of the time! you got your reasons for keeping it quiet, I don't personally have a problem with that, but others do. don't worry about it, will soon be old news! Very Happy

rungsp,
Well last week I was in La Rosiere
Megamum was not there
The snow was fantastic
The resort seemed fully booked
I stayed at the david@trax chalet and the food was of gourmet standard
There were many snowheads in La Rosiere at some stage last week and we all had a fabulous time
Guess which resort the kids want to go back to next year

Don't want to upset you further Brian, but the last SCGB missive I saw featured one of the senior members of the hierarchy reporting on the surprisingly good snow she encountered in Grimentz.

It's the new black.

re. the thread, imho anyone going to the lengths of putting 'x' in the middle of a report posted to snowHead must be v.v. naive if hoping to avoid pointed remarks or is suffering from a bit of on-line attention defecit thingy. If the former, then I hope that this doesn't put you off, if the latter, then congratulations !

Well if anyone else in the world finds out where W is, I'll be gutted - it's only little. wink
Unfortunately I wont be in W next week as someone let it slip so there are too many americans there (must have been on EpicSki), therefore I'll be at R M, so in case you do work it out please go to W next week, please leave by the following week, and please don't go to R M at all. wink

(Seriously Megamum I'm sure there is a good reason for not mentioning the location, and who cares anyway? - nice report snowHead )

rolling eyes indeed...

Don't you mean to _where_ it pertains?
As stated at the top of the report it is not a review of the resort or the weather, but rather of the experience. Maybe that's of little value to you, but someone might find it useful.
I'll tell you what the weather's like at Red Mountain (doh - let it slip!) if that makes you feel better? wink

Frosty the Snowman, can you see Arc 2000 & 1950 from La Rosiere ?

I only ask as we were having bets as to the resort we could see looking across from 1950 & 2000, my money is on LR.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
I met a chap on the plane coming back from Zurich and he said that he and his wife now prefer to search out little-known "locals" resorts, because they're not really interested in the apres, they just want to enjoy the relative peace and quiet and pretty skiing. And no, he didn't give me any names either Wink

I went to a lovely little place in Austria one year, called Gruenau im Almtal (I think the area is Kasberg), but "little" was the operative word, and it was relatively low (only 1600 m at the peak) with only about a dozen lifts and 40km of pistes. Fortunately, we had great snow cover, so it was in very good condition, but through personal choice I wouldn't go back somewhere as small as that again for anything longer than a weekend, pretty though it undoubtedly was.

But it's horses for courses, isn't it? I'm sure if people want to search out these hidden gems the information is out there, and I can understand locals' worry about the Peter Mayle effect to some extent, but not everyone wants to rush to these places. I struggle to choose from all the resorts that I DO know about - so many of them, so little time.

Helen Beaumont, I suppose that you've benefited from the private briefing?

SteveKirby,

I still can't believe that there is any other reason than selfishness to not reveal the name of the resort. I hope that all of the people who have given the original poster advice in other threads have been given the inside story. snowHead

SteveKirby, I think, depending on the topic, the perspective and opinion of someone who has little skiing ecperience has equal weight and value as someone who has skied for many years. I have found the incite provided by the original poster(who has skied more than once) to be often very interesting. Perhaps www.epicski.com would be more up your street.

bh1, no I haven't. I still don't know where she stayed. I don't think any other snowheads, mods or otherwise do either. megamum has communicated by PM with mod (but not me) her reasons for her resort remaining anonymous. I don't happen to agree, but I respect her decision.

SteveKirby, bh1, Whilst I can see your points of view, I hardly think that this is worth getting worked up about, and besides I think there are some clues in her original post that might just give away Megamums resort . . . unless I am barking up the wrong google.

Not very fair, skiing experience is not required to post on this forum, many of Megamum's posts have been questions about skiing to help her progress in the sport. I certainly wouldn't want people put off posting here just because they have haven't skied much.

The report wasn't on the resort, it was on her skiing experience.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, Guess it means I don't need to fork out for a visit to see you eh? Never mind our time will come one day I promise wink

Thank you to all those that aren't bothered by me having my little secret. I'm somewhat upset that I seem to have wrong-footed some of the rest of you, I do hope you will all carry on chatting to me in the future - on the whole I enjoy my time here, and I am a little dismayed at the reaction I've had - I wish now that I had not posted my report - it's really put the mockers on the enjoyment of my trip - If you can't live with the fact that I won't tell you where I went then get off my thread and GET STUFFED!!

For the record in my entire life I've spent 4 weeks skiing.

As for those that I term senior snowHead 's please be assured that I offer the term in respect of their obvious good sense, fair mindedness and the respect that they seem to engender from the rest of the posters. Those included know who they are, there are others of you too I just haven't got round to PMing all of you yet.

Now, before I lose the plot altogether, can someone here tell me how I get the inside ski to come round in the parallel turn like I can get the outside one to. The outside one came round great but often the inside one got left behind and I found myself lifting it up to complete the turn easily. It seemed a case of rocking the inside ski onto its uphill edge at just the right moment, but I couldn't seem to work out exactly where this point was. Is there a way of describing to me when/where this point is please? Oh, sorry there I go asking for advice again - I forgot I'm not supposed to do this if I won't share all my facts must I? Confused
