Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

French resorts VS Austrian & Italian

@dh900, Not been put off by the bakery diversion Smile

Arlberg is probably the best area in Austria and also one of the best in the alps, it is arguably the snowiest. I generally only ski there these days. However it is not for everyone. It does not have the sort of dense network of lifts & pistes common in the larger French areas. It covers a very large area but the links can be a bit slow and buses are often the best option. It can get very crowded and has got very expensive. For anyone happy to be challenged (not just experts) there are few better places but timid skiers will struggle. St Anton is the top place for apres, Lech has an upmarket atmosphere to compare with any of the Swiss resorts. The area is rich in tradition as it was just about the first winter sport holiday destination, the villages were all there before anyone started skiing for fun. Personally I think once you have been you wont want to go anywhere else again but clearly not everyone agrees with that.

There are a number of areas easily reachable from Innsbruck (including St Anton) which ones are you thinking of?

Very true. Each to their own tastes.

That's fortunate really, otherwise it would be a very crowded ski resort if everyone wanted exactly the same thing !

Nevertheless, it's another vote for the Arlberg for me, I've been going to St Anton for over 30 years now and love it. I've been to other places in between but end up returning there more and more frequently in recent times. I don't even ski off piste, it's the wide variety of conditions on-piste that make the skiing for me. ... and the apres of course Happy
