Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Munich is probably the easiest by train + you get to enjoy munich, so could fly out or back a day earlier/later

Be very aware about Fasching carnival which can cause rather lengthy queues of traffic as Munich empties for the week / weekend. Arrange your onward travel with this in mind

This is an excellent idea. We try to do this and fly back on the Sunday. But if you arrive in Munich at the start of Fasching, get your onward travel sorted or be prepared for 80kms of Stau !

Munich to Mayrhofen on the train is pretty simple.

S bahn from the airport to Munich Ost.
Munich Ost to Jenbach, may involve a change at Kufstein, may not, depending on what train you're on.
Jenbach to Mayrhofen on the Zillertalbahn.

Easy to use the trains in Germany and Austria, just a few changes to contend with.

@ElzP, I found it fairly busy mid January last winter, so imagine feb half term would be very busy.

@RosieL, Mayrhofen town has all you need. From the town you have direct access to both the Ahorn and Penken ski areas, Penken being the biggest of the two.

Despite living here, i've actually never skied Mayrhofen (we've only been here 6 weeks) so I can't really comment on suitability for you as a nervous skier, but plenty of people on here have skied the area who would know.

Went to Mayrhofen back in January with a group of 50yr old blokes. Aside from the snow being poor early on due to weather I enjoyed the slopes just enough. Once it had snowed a bit some of the slopes were excellent but I did say at the time I wouldn’t jump to return unless I got a really good deal or bring my nervous intermediate wife there. I think she’d find it a bit too much without some private lessons to get her to the next step if you like.
The town itself has all you need but there was a pretty nasty assault in the entrance of the main nightclub as we were passing which spilled out into the street leaving several needing ambulance and police all over it. But that isn’t necessarily indicative of the place itself as we had plenty of other nights out where the atmosphere was great.

We’ve used Munich with Lufthansa for trips to Tirol and it was really easy and way cheaper than using Innsbruck or Salzburg.

If you are DIY tripping it, then look at your flight options.
Innsbruck, Salzburg & Munich.
Narrow down based on flights.
Soll might tick a lot of boxes

Agree Soll would be a great shout, loads of varied skiing with fantastic reds and some challenging blacks, nice cruisey blues too across to Ellmau, westendorf etc. Usually half decent bit of après in town too. I’ll defo return there one day for another trip, really enjoyed it.

@RosieL, ive been known to fly in to Nuremberg its an extra 1h20m on top of what Munchen would be but considerably cheaper at half term. we could fly out on the Friday and back a week on sunday.
Maybe not everyone's cuppa but saved circa 800£ on flight costs for us this year and cheaper car hire

How is your budget? Oberlech/ Lech is fantastic.... although not sure of brilliant nightlife for teens.

@jirac18, did you ski anywhere in the valley outside of the Ahorn/Penken area?
