Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Reading through this post as we're flying easyjet for the first time this year and have new helmets I'd rather not get squished (happened to me years ago), generally seems like people haven't had any issues taking them into the cabin either in a bag or just carrying? (without having to pay for extra hand luggage?)
EasyJet are different from scheduled airlines.
I need to carry my boots, so for EJ I have to pay for a heavy full-size roll-on cabin bag. That leaves my "personal item" available for my helmet/ goggles /headphones.
Here's their rule for
one small cabin bag
. I've not tried taking a helmet
in addition
to that.
Wear the helmet? I was once at Manchester and EJ checking said I could not have my helmet clipped to my bag as that was two pieces of hand luggage. I pointed out that they had just let the lady in front of me through with a rucksack and handbag, and they were not saying anything to the lady at the adjacent check-in desk either. I put my helmet in my rucksack and told them another word about it, and I would be slapping them with a sex discrimination lawsuit. These days, they seem to include the handbag as well in hand luggage, probably because their lawyers advised them they were facing stiff fines otherwise

I've also had someone attempt to walk off with my wheeled bag from the outsize baggage delivery point in Luton - he was collecting his mate's skis as well as his, and remembered that his bag was black, but the possibility that there might be more than one black bag had never crossed his tiny little mind. I usually try to make sure I get to the baggage area as fast as possible for exactly this reason.
I slap a few unique stickers on mine:
- a snowhead sticker which is rather rare in the US
- a EpicSki sticker which is rather rare in the continent
- a skidiva sticker which is rather rare for blokes
But now I need new carrier, I'll have to figure out what to put on it.
Just responding to this although 2 years ago as a new post got me to read the whole thread.
Having also been the victim of a Muppet taking our suitcase at Geneva because it looked rather like hers nowadays all of our luggage has bright yellow, buried electrical cable tied in large knots around the various handles. My wife thinks it’s extremely embarrassing and ugly but we can see our baggage an mile off and haven’t lost anything ever since.
Even when my skis were delayed at Geneva and we had to depart without them when I was explaining to the baggage lady what they looked like and showed her a photo, she was mightily impressed and said there will be no problem finding those then.
There’s lots of similar coloured tape places like builders merchants and DIY stores. I thoroughly recommend the liberal use of it if you have generic bags.

@tony(mo)fo
, How long are your skis?
Just FYI but my Dakine Low Roller 175 (actually a Snowboard bag) will take skis with bindings up to 180cms . . .also takes a pair of boots (in a dedicated internal bag) poles and anything else I can stuff in there (usually goggles in a hardcase / spare gloves / backpack / fleeces / underlayers etc) Make sure you buy some ski brake bands so the skis fit flat and the binding arms don't get bent / damage the bag in transit
Always check the carriers weight restriction and load it to the gunnels! Never had an issue with any carrier however generally prefer BA if poss as less boarding agg and less restrictions on hold luggage (its viewed the same as standard hold luggage) . .
EDIT - Oops just read the date on this thread lol - agree with others - helmets never an issue; either stuff mine in a rucksack and carry on or attach to a mini suitcase that adheres to the hand luggage restrictions
