I thought I'd add my experience to this thread, we needed a fit to Fly PCR to enter Austria on Jan 22nd, within 48 hours of landing. About 10 if our group of 16 used Anglian DNA in Scottow outside of Norwich. They were fantastic, a bit overwhelmed with 2 large ski parties booking the same afternoon. It was freezing cold car park, and you test yourself in your car, and fill a form in to activate. We all had our negative results at 7.30 am the next morning. Way ahead of the midnight deadline we'd been told, probably as they do the analysis on site. The cost was £75 each.
I also used them for my return 2 day pcy (no lfts here), picked up onsite and dropped back to site, for a bargain £12.50 - again results the very next morning.
It was such a stressful time, and this made it all happen!

But from what I can see - simplytestme may be fine for individual travellers but not so good if one person is wanting to order for a family as you have to complete a separate application for each family member. |
OK, I assume you would have to input everyone's details at some point anyway, so you mean it's just easier if you could order and pay in one go? Any comparable alternatives where you could order for 4 family members together? Some providers need an app installing to submit and receive results, my teens have their own phones and email addresses and are definitely more tech savvy than me!
Some providers require a video of the person taking the test. Not sure that would go down well either! |
Our go to LFT tester is C19testing, we have used them 5 times since last summer and they have always been good and have got quicker, last result was back within 15 minutes of submission.
Last time the two of us went we needed 2 outbound and 2 inbound tests, I just ordered 4 LFT tests. 12 hours before departure we conducted our tests, we each submitted our test results and had the certificates back within the hour. For our return tests we each submitted our results and had the certificate back within 15 minutes.
The process is really simple, buy as many tests as you need for the family, each person conducts their test, writes their supplied test reference on the test cartridge, take photo of passport and negative test cartridge, register the test with an email address online with C19, upload photo, get certificate back. Maybe sounds a bit longwinded but easy to follow instructions included in pack together with online tutorial when you start the register process. Not the cheapest £19.99 , but we think well worth it. Good reviews in other threads here.
Edit : the registration process for each LFT asks if you want to use for fit to fly or Day 2 return and if Day 2 return gives the necessary PLF reference number

Sorry if this questions seems a bit daft, but are the 'test at home' lateral flow tests accepted for travel, or must the test be taken at a covid test centre?

@AlwaysFalling1, they are accepted by some countries but not by every country. Not by the US for example, but they are accepted by France and Italy among others.

Any idea if Germany accept 'test at home' type LFT tests? Unbelievably difficult to navigate their entry requirements!

@AlwaysFalling1, Obviously I don't know how you are fixed but I'm going to Munich tomorrow (non skiing trip) and as a triple jabber there's no test required.
The form filling and uploading your docs, Covid Certs and Digital Registration Form are a faff but once uploaded it was also requested by Lufthansa, i'm not sure about other carriers and they've carried out a pre travel check which should hopefully assist at check in
Good luck

How does the Covid stuff get done if you do check-in online and only have cabin bags ie. no reason to visit desks? Flying Ryanair.

Yep, this is who I used the other week and should have 2 tests being delivered later. Will do next day delivery on orders up to 8pm, which is useful, and both the previous tests I did were under an hour for me to take the test, send the result and receive the cert. Think Mama and Papa McFlude had the same experience.

Does anyone know if the Netherlands accept the test at home ones? The Dutch government website says PCR or 24h antigen test, but buried in a paragraph somewhere it says not self-tests.

I'll remain optimistic for a couple more hours... 3 of us are waiting, on 3 different emails also. Could just be hammered with the amount of test being submitted

@Spike107, Glad you are good to go! The expected rush is starting, with it taking longer to get results back than had previously been the case. Heaven know what it will be like as half-terms start!
Would be good if others updated on how it goes with their test results.

I agree half term week could be manic to say the least, not helped by the fact your trying to factor in a delay to your test a little for potential delays out of your control...
Still happy days, that stress is done with, now is making sure I'm up and ready for 02:45am pickup tomorrow

Very happy with C19 last week for pre-departure. Delivered next day after order (although didn't have notification beforehand from DPD that I was led to expect, so was slightly concerned). Took test and submitted it - reply with certificate came in under half an hour. This was on Thursday - suspect Fridays might be a bit busier. |
Was the under half an hour time just good luck? Their website quotes 12 hours

Sat in Manchester airport now on way to Italy. Used randox for lft's.
Decent generally. Easy to click and collect tests which makes it cheaper. Outlets in lots of small local shops.
App is decent enough but fiddly. It is very easy to accidentally delete your certificate I found. Can't understand why that is even an option.
On calling they then emailed it to me. Despite what they say they don't send by email as standard it seems, only send in app.
Happy generally.

@dgmskier, Found the same! Randox via Click and Collect removes any stress on delivery and also means you can do it last minute if needed.
App is fiddly but works.
Results very fast - minutes
Easy to delete the certificate on the app. My daughter did this accidentally when we did a dummy run, she had saved the certificate to her phone and following that it seemed to her that the only option was to delete it in the app. It is not the only option, just looks like that! No problem using the pdf she had saved to her phone to print out or show others form the phone.
We did not get an email with the certificate so you have to check the app for the results.

Just hope I don't get any issues as mine I preordered for half term. I spoke to them on the phone before ordering and was assured no issues buying early..... |
I asked Excalibur about their LFT travel tests and whether they would still be valid for travel and have had confirmation that any already purchased are fine. It's only one's purchased after the recent changes that are no longer suitable for travel.

Good morning,
Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that all orders are still valid that were purchased from us before the changes.
Going forward, we will however, not accept new orders from customers for travel test.
Kind regards,

A warning to anyone yet to purchase for next weekend - the Chronomics confirmation email gave a despatch date of 7 days after the date I'd ordered.
If they'd said that before I'd placed the order I wouldn't have gone with them.

I ordered some Chronomics as a backup to the Excalibur ones I’ve just used. I think they do say they send them out 5 days before travel but the good news is they come by dpd so arrive the next day.
I think some people are using a different travel date to get them earlier and I think I saw someone say you could log into your account and change the date to an earlier one so they come out straight away.

A real shame that Excalibur are now only providing the test primarily designed for companies (they said they are in fact a large Cambridge lab doing diagnostics and cancer stuff and their LFT service is a recent add on, now mainly targetted at organisations). It seems the tests are exactly the same using the app for fit to fly for a near instant QR code but only avalable in bulk orders of 250... It works out at £4.40 a go. If it was a smaller bulk amount I'd probably buy it for our group of friends and split the cost, as the tests worked so well for us in the past.
