Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I don't believe I ever said you did. If you stand upright and don't flex your ankles most boots will allow you to do so.

Had a look at Surefoot in Verbier out of curiosity - works out at over double what I paid for the same ski boot!

If that is the mark-up for the addition of a scanning machine I can now see why you might actually not go to a specialist boot fitter and just try some boots on with someone who knows what they are doing. Although, probably work out cheaper to fly back to see CEM for the day than buy in Verbier. I like CH but double the price is just crazy. My conclusion from all this is once you have some knowledge and experience yourself go to a locally recommended resort ski shop when they are quiet unless you have a specific foot problem otherwise you are getting into seriously diminishing returns. Even got a decent coffee and a great ski service although a croissant would have been nice.

Went to boot fitter today. Lo and behold there were some heel lifts in there (I forgot about them, he put them in to solve some toe-touching-front-of-boot problem). He's also shown me how to remove the bolt from the back of the boot to try out a softer flex and compare the difference. So here's hoping!
