Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thanks for your replies.

Interesting as to how different folks saw it differently, even those in roughly the same places. Just goes to prove its all a matter of opinion and one snowHead's good conditions was an others not so good?

The main thing is nobody said it was so bad they couldn't ski! Very Happy

The laws of nature prevail as ever. I'm just hoping the law of averages also prevails for a while and if 06/07 was the last poor-ish season for me it will be 20/21 before the next ? Confused

Superficial conditions (which is what we ski on) can change so quickly that week to week experiences can be entirely different. + Different people look for different things anyway - so an expert skiing windblown crust at 3,000m who was looking for powder will report a different experience to a first week beginner at 1,200m who was delighted with warm weather, sunshine and immaculately groomed pistes.

under a new name, like I mentioned guide in LG said best season ever, mind you what does he know compared to some on here Confused

And looking at the forecast for Sunday going into Tuesday think a trip to La Grave is on the cards for Wednesday (lifts close here on Mon)

Yesterday on the other hand cycled from here in Serre to Sestriere via Montgenevre (4.5hrs +2,000m) and was interesting seeing all the resorts closed.

Now going up the hill using the lifts, quick hike then a SE facing slope, and tomorrow touring with the local CAF, but think after Sat going to be very wet here in resort Sad

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

after being quite sceptical of conditions and booking very late, I have to say 5-12th April was fab. We skied boilerplate to slushpuppy under cloudless sky and (very) hot sunshine and we had a great fun.

I've decided that its more fun if you are on reasonably well prepared skis, mainly carving through rather than pushing wet snow and spending more time picking slope aspect to maximise options for reasonable snow. We skied on reds at 2-3pm which were in excellent condition due to aspect.

Also decided that I am going to spend less time worrying about rain, it tipped down for a few hours on one morning yet the effect was minimal, even with temps elevated.

Can't wait to see what next season brings Smile

Weathercam, DB's comment notwithstanding snowHead ,

I think a. your local area got better earlier snow than us and b. above 1,500m it has been a good season, bearing in mind what's good for a guide may not be completely aligned with a non-guide (although I struggle to provide an example NehNeh )

For snow depths Aosta/Monterosa had by far the best season I've seen since going there regularly (2001) and very little wind affecting it.

Had a couple of weekends in Stubai in October and November which were pretty epic, a week in Chamonix in January where we got 2 fresh dumps of snow, think we were really lucky with timing there and a week in Tignes in sunshine and slush which was enjoyable as it was with friends so was as much about that as the skiing. Other than that have mainly been doing shadowing and teaching beginners so sunshine and soft snow has been perfect for that and I haven't felt like I've missed any epic powder dumps either. This must be about the earliest I've stopped skiing but it is too far to travel for me at the moment to get to better snow, will probably try and get a bit of summer skiing in.
