skinutter, See the comments from Ricklovesthepowder in the 10/11 weather thread. He saw a 6 degree drop in an hour in Manchester, also seen on their airport metar I posted.
Birmingham saw the same rapid fall in just an hour:

Bucketing down in Richmond, couple of inches in last hour, sticking on the roads outside and transport at an almost standstill. Put paid to my plans of a lunchtime lap or three of the park on my bike, quite glad I didn't set off earlier and get caught in it. Doubt there'll be skiable amounts before it blows over though

South Wales - 8 inches of snow fell between 3am and 9am this morning. Work Christmas party - cancelled. Golf on Saturday - cancelled. On the plus side I have a big fire burning on the drive, I've made a sledge for the kids and I'm on a break for a cuppa half way through making a snowman. As long as the kids don't interfere with the building I'll be OK.
