@Bennyboy1, not sure why your dog would be an issue, dogs are very popular here in Bavaria . As I understand it the exemption from quarantine only applies to residents of the listed countries though in practice I think it is very unlikely anyone would check a German vehicle. The issue would come when you registered at your accommodation, if you own an apartment you might be able to avoid that. However not sure I would want to be in Austria if there was some doubt over whether I was complying with the rules. It might be different if say I took a trip to Luxembourg, then came back and a few days later went to Austria, no one would know I had been in Luxembourg.

My property has a rental obligation so I have to register and pay the tourist tax for anyone staying there including myself. I guess that is how it would be picked up. But in any case I wouldn’t travel to Austria unless it was clear.

As to dogs. I just meant that I had planned to fly to Munich so taking the dog would mean driving from UK in a UK car.

From Austrian Tourist Board:
"Unfortunately we do not have any more information about the current situation than we have provided on our website: https://www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information
Tomorrow will be an announcement about the travel restrictions and we will update our website as soon as possible. So we kindly ask you to check the link for more information.
We regret not being able to tell you more about the travel restrictions."
I thought it was being announced today to come into effect on Friday (see earlier in thread)? We set off first thing Saturday if restrictions unchanged so talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Nobody with an ear/eye to the Austrian media heard/seen anything?

@GranthamPaul, Local press says the countries should be confirmed today, but nothing as yet I'm afraid.

@GranthamPaul, The Tiroler Tageszeitung has a news blog https://liveblog.tt.com/414/coronavirus the entry at 12:10 is about all this but gives no more detail than known already ie the information is due to be published today. There appears to be a certain amount of confusion about some of the changes such as where masks need to be worn so there might (please note might) be a possibility not all countries will fall into the "high risk" category

Why are people travelling around Europe during a pandemic?
Holidays are NOT Essential.
Dont be part of the problem.
Stay at Home.

@stanton,
Of course, you are right to a point but holidays are pretty essential to the economy in a lot of countries and the economy is pretty essential to population health - so some trade-off between running with a higher number of Covid-19 cases and closing economy probably has to be made to maximise population well-being especially if you can continue to suppress exponential growth of Covid-19

Gone 17:00 hours Austrian time and have no news of information on change of travel regulations that was due to be published today. Does that mean it won't happen today?

@GranthamPaul,
Due to the in- depth legal review , the decree by Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) on entry from Austria's Corona risk areas , which should actually come into effect tomorrow, Friday, has been delayed . The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday of the APA.
"The aim is to find a balanced regulation that serves both to fight the pandemic and to comply with all constitutional principles",
it said in a written communication from the Ministry.
▶ ️ The text of the regulation will therefore first be checked in detail for legal validity , it said. It was initially unclear when the regulation would be published or when it would enter into force

@GranthamPaul, You are correct, and that has now been confirmed (that it won't be published today). The delay is related to legal challenges for previous restrictions – they are trying to make sure everything is definitely legal this time! There is a hint that the date of the change may also be pushed back.

@munich_irish, I don't think it's all of them, just in certain circumstances. Pretty stupid though. I think this stems from a similar problem to the UK, where politicians say one thing (what they think the law should be, perhaps) but when it is actually written, the law says something slightly different, or hasn't been properly checked from a legal sense and is easily challenged in court.

@GranthamPaul, as @holidayloverxx, Mentioned the announcement has been delayed as reported in Die Presse, this morning.
“The decree by Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) on entering Corona risk areas in Austria is still a long way off. It should also have come into force today, but is currently still under legal scrutiny, the department says. Specifically: "The goal is to find a balanced arrangement that both the pandemic fight is, and meets all constitutional principles." “

I have not seen any further announcements this morning with regard to incoming arrivals in Austria. Not really relevant to this discussion but two countries Finland and Tunisia have added Austria to their own list of countries where quarantine is required. The health minister is currently giving a press conference so likely further details will be announced.
Reading through what he said it appears that details of the entry requirements will be announced this afternoon. Außerdem kündigte der Gesundheitsminister "konsequentes Handeln" bei der Einreise aus Risikogebieten an, wo am Freitagnachmittag die entsprechende Verordnung veröffentlicht werden soll.

@GranthamPaul, it's unlikely they will need to set up the protocols to manage it through the Austrian system boarder force , police etc, that's if they even make the announcement this afternoon the want to make sure they have all the legal stuff covered off.

@GranthamPaul, no idea. The plan was to introduce the revisions from today so whatever planning would be required will be done, I guess it depends on how much notice they need to give to be legally correct. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed.

No further news I have heard. The Tiroler Tageszeitung has a blog entry (see https://liveblog.tt.com/414/coronavirus at 17:54 ) which is an opposition spokesperson criticising the chaos over the delay in announcing the changes.

Good news, it looks as if the UK has been added to the list of "safe countries" see https://www.tt.com/artikel/30743457/ab-montag-einreise-nach-oesterreich-aus-32-risikogebieten-nur-noch-mit-test the list is at the bottom of the article and includes the UK. Assuming the article is correct then a negative test will no longer be required. The revised regulations come into force at midnight on Monday so maybe the test for UK will be required until then. It would probably be best to check one of the official ministry sites rather than rely on media reports.

@munich_irish, Saturday 1st August it says at the bottom for UK change, so for @GranthamPaul, current regs apply and his neg test should suffice. The 14 day quarantine appears to have been dropped from the new restrictions too, so to me it looks like a few countries switching around rather than anything much different to now. Maybe more police checks at eastern borders?

I wonder if they will also lift the landing ban in August then? No mention of that here.

It's good and bad news. Although the UK seems to have been dropped from the list of level 6 high risk regions, entry to Austria is now restricted to returning Austrians plus EU and Swiss nationals. 3rd country nationals who do not have residency in Austria can only enter in exceptional circumstances.
@queenie pretty please, maybe Austria is interpreting things differently but as far as the EU is concerned UK citizens are being treated the same as EU / EEA citizens until 31.12.20 under the terms of the withdrawal agreement.
