Piccadilly, Hope that forecast comes true. That deep it wont matter if you fall on your shoulder, it will be like landing in marshmallows.
Hope you have now given up on the idea of blades. They wont run in fresh.
You could pop them in your pockets when you hit the bars though. Save on locking them up.

Powderseeker, Extra spicy gulasch soup at the Hochwartalm and Rachkuchl - both at the mid-station of the Schoenleitenbahn, and therefore ideally located for pregnant wives to get to! The former gets silver medal in the TT annual gulasch soup awards (the Hecherhuette being the clear winner).

Sounds great, thanks for that as mrs powder seeker like goulash soup a lot. I have seen the hecherhutte being mentioned before but I don't think it's reachable on foot as is seems to be 1/2 way down a piste, can it be driven to by car?
However unfortunately my wife might now be not be able to come on the trip as following a routine visit to the hospital Today, there is a very small complication! that means I might have to make the trip alone, but we will have to wait and see how it developers over the next few weeks.
Unfortunately also that I had booked the flights last night so we might also loose the money on that too

Yes, although up a snow-covered road. Last time I left the HH, I saw a couple of cars cruising along the road leading to it but couldn't tell for certain whether they had chains - I don't think they did.
Commiserations on your somewhat more significant problems!

Mindful of my continuing mission:
To explore strange new pistes...
To seek out new bars; new mountain restaurants...
To boldly go where no one (well, maybe one or two) has gone before!
I sallied forth today (after a lie-in and a shamefuly indolent morning) and stopped at the Reiteralm (on blue piste 34 down the Reiterkogel). Although it's one of those ancient, rustically charming mountain restaurants, ubiquitous in the Ski Circus, it always used to be a bit gloomy, down at heel, and...well 'basic', with a 'queue up at the counter' arrangement for getting served. However I'd heard that it was under new management and had been revamped.
Well..they've obviously expended a huge amount of time, energy, imagination and money in its new facelift, with very impressive and tasteful results. I would say that it arguably now has the most beautiful interior of any mountain restaurant in the Reiterkogel/Hochalm sector of the Ski Circus. We didn't have time to sample the food, but, if it lives up to the promise of its menu, it will certainly be one of our top lunchtime choices. During our brief pit-stop, I noticed also that the music was pretty good - not a hint of the relentless europop/schlager musical diet that normally assails the ears.
On the subject of which, we've also recently discovered 'Mango', a new (for this season) village bar that we can highly recommend to anyone whose idea of apres-apres-ski is a cosy, welcoming 'chill-out lounge', with soft lighting, sumptuous leather armchairs, imaginative decor, antique furnishings, friendly, attentive staff, and a great playlist. It's the bar that we've been saying for years that Saalbach could really do with, and as yet it's seemingly undiscovered by the masses who cram into Saalbach's other more hectic bars. It's Dutch-owned and managed, and it's located opposite the Spar supermarket on Schulstrasse. It has a Cuban theme (Che Guevara features strongly) with a 'cantina' on the ground floor (very nice but empty when we visited, so we asked to be served with our tapas in the more atmospheric underground bar). Tapas consisted, in our case, of 7 dishes for EUR 27 (you could also opt for 5 or 9), which was about right for 2 people. It included white fish, king prawns, lamb chop, mushrooms in sherry and nachos in guacamole.
Give it a try - it deserves to succeed (and tell them I sent you - it can't do any harm!)

Jagatee = a blend of black tea, red wine, rum, schnapps, cinnamon and cloves, served steaming hot in a mug. Recipes vary (brandy/cognac can be included), but a strong, home-made one, such as that served in the Hecherhuette and the Pfefferalm, will blow your socks off!
Just what you need for that shoulder, Piccadilly!

We may be on the same flight out Chasseur (Gatwick @ 6.00am? saturday). Jagetee sounds interesting and must be sampled! Noted the Reiteralm and Mango comments TT. Hope to run into a few of you all over the week probably kicking off at the Goassstahl first couple of days as we are Hinterglemm based.

Oh my, that sounds AMAZING. I have to sample one (or several) of those..
Definitely medicinal.
I've also purchased a light shoulder support, so I'm good to go.
Chasseur,
I love the last day at work before skiing, so demob happy!
Have a safe journey and see you in the bar tomorrow night. We should arrive about 7.30pm, weather permitting.
I will be spending this evening finishing off my packing and discovering all the things I've run out of!!
divekris, PM me or Chasseur your mobile number and I'm sure we'll be able to catch up in the Goassstall. Look out for our group, there are six of us wearing Angry Bird helmet covers, say hi if you see us.

Wow! Its now been snowing for over 24 hours! The whole area is getting a massive pasting. Insane amount of snow. Met up with Piccadilly and her crew yesterday for some banging apres at the Goastall. Fun evening! Had a run in with a cow on Saturday....but more on that in the TR....! (via SMS)

Chasseur, One of us is apparently losing track of time - by my reckoning, it's been snowing continuously all day Saturday, yesterday and today - and I make that nearly 60 hours so far, and it's showing no sign of easing off; in fact the opposite! I've just battled my way through knee-deep powder from the top of Kohlmais and then returned to base (i.e. wimped out) in order to file this report.
Incidentally, you already merit a gold star for your apres-skiing: Falling off a cow on your first night, then Goassstall, Bobby's, Kuhstall, and Mangos all on your second!

Yeah i like the Eva, free use of ipad and internet inside is a plus.Scarlet Fez, Only had a drink in the Berger, not that impressed, good location but will give it a miss for staying. Any ideas where you will stay next time for your "bit of luxury?". Saalbacher Hof looks a bit special. Alpenhotel outdoor pool looks impressive.

Well, our car is packed, the kids are asleep at last, and the curry is being delivered shortly - and then we're driving to the tunnel in the morning, with an overnight stop in Augsburg and then arriving in Hinterglemm around noon on Saturday if all goes to plan. Leave some untracked powder for us please...

Any visitor to Saalbach should ideally have the energy and enthusiasm to tackle all 200km of the 'Ski Circus', coupled with the endurance to cope with the full-on apres-ski and apres-apres-ski - in short someone who is an amalgam of Piccadilly, and Chasseur, !
It's been an absolute pleasure to show you both - and Piccadilly, 's flock of angry birds - around. We've been able to tick off many of the must-dos and must-sees, whilst leaving plenty for the next time.
P.S. Mangos tonight, and Schattberg Xpress at 10.00am for a blast through all that nice new snow!

Sadly leaving this awesome resort. Looks like a bluebird day. Anyone heading out here has a treat in store. I can't wait to come back...definitely one of the best places I've been! Once again, special mention and praise for Tatmans Tours in dispatches. Legendary experience. Plus thanks to Piccadilly and her Angry Birds for their company this week. Trip report (and photos) to come, once I've recovered from the experience....may take awhile....lol! A very shattered Chasseur signing off! (via SMS)

Thanks so much again to TT, you made our week!
And thanks to Chasseur for the good company
